Microsoft already has a working Revolution controller prototype?!?

Link

Yeah, I'm not too sure what I think about this yet.  It means they are willing to accept that the controller idea will take off.  How this functions with the various patents Nintendo has filed is also interesting.  Thoughts?  Is Nintendo actually setting the standard before they even launch or even show their product in use?  Crazy.

Maybe if the link worked I might be able to make a worthwhile comment......get the link to work.

EDIT: I realised what is wrong. The link has two "http://" things, this link should work LINK!. It looks interesting, I wonder what Microsoft will use it for, the applications they have listed are very basic.

This was alluded to by someone commenting on the Revolution controller. Before revealing the Revolution, Iwata said it would use existing technology in a way that hadn't been done before. Meaning in a game console, presumably. I hate finding quotes.

Their are similarities in the two controllers, however the Xwand has no gaming uses.

"like watching scrambled porn" says correspondent

Scrambled porn is still porn.  Scrambled swearing is still swearing.  One of the great benefits of a forum over a chat room or IM is that the discussions are not in real-time, so you have a chance to deliberate on your post before submitting anything.  That means you have plenty of time to formulate a well reasoned thought and thus no excuse to simply throw together expletives and slang.  I suggest you use this opportunity in the future.

There are 2 issues, is it as precise?? Also nintendo may have the patent on such a device in terms of videogames removing the ability for microsoft to use it in that application. I also remember nintendo buying stake in a gyroscope company. Im not sure if that company holds the patent to gyroscopes or what but if thats the casse nintendo could prevent microsoft from using them.

Even if it can do the same as the rod, the lower market penetration will prevent it from replacing the Rev.

I don't think this matters too much.  Microsoft and Sony aren't going to copy the idea unless they understand and believe it is the next step in gaming evolution.  This controller is not market tested yet, and until Microsoft or Sony know for a fact that the controller will sell and do well in all markets they won't copy the device.

However, wait and see.  If Nintendo's controller is a huge hit then both Sony and Microsoft will copy it.  But by then it will be too late.  Nintendo will be on 2nd or 3rd generation software with the controller and they will be on 1st.
