Lost product key
« on: July 11, 2005, 05:08:29 AM »
I had nascar racing 2003 season installed on my old computer.  I lost the cd case which conveniently is the placeholder for the product key.  I recently bought a new computer and I wanted to install this game on it as it is bound to run much better on my new computer.  I am not able to do this without the product key.  Is there anyway for me to get the product key?  This game is now out of print and going for $60 + on ebay so I'm not enthuised to buy the game again.  I still have the game installed on my old computer if there is a way to get the product key from that information.  Any help would be appreciated because I'm not really good with computers.

Some games have an option on the main menu to view your product code.  I'm not familiar with this particular game, so I can't comment on it.  If not, I'm not sure there's a way to recover your product code.  You could maybe try just copying over the game files from one computer to another, (or just burn the entire game folder onto one (or more) CD-Rs and copy the files to your new computer) and see if that works.

I remember Quake III Arena actually let you change your product code at any given time via the main menu.  I always thought that was weird.  I couldn't see the purpose of it, other than to encourage piracy.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Look in the registry. Many programs store the key there.
