Companies Team Up To Bring Exclusive North American Battle Chips For PETs
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - April 25, 2005 - Expanding the handheld cyber battle experience, Capcom today announced a partnership with Mattel, Inc. (NYSE: MAT) to package a special BattleChip(tm) disk, specifically designed for Mattel's MegaMan(tm) Advanced PET(tm) Personal Terminal, into each copy of Mega Man Battle Network(r) 5 Team Protoman and Mega Man Battle Network(r) 5 Team Colonel for the Game Boy(r) Advance video game system. Each Battle Network version will include its own chip when it is released this spring. This insertion continues the support of Mattel's line of products based on Capcom's beloved and renowned blue action hero.
Based on the highly popular video game and MegaMan NT Warrior cartoon series, Mattel's MegaMan(tm) Advanced PET(tm) Personal Terminal is a portable communication device that allows consumers to steer through the virtual worldwide information network within the Mega Man universe. Each PET has a personality that manifests in the form of a NetNavi. These trusty digital assistants help humans (Net Operators) communicate and navigate the 'Net' by using various battle chips that contain unique weapons or abilities to battle against malicious cyber opponents and viruses that lie in wait.
"We are excited to extend our partnership with Mattel and their successful line of Mega Man toys," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing Capcom Entertainment. "The MegaMan PET Personal Terminal from Mattel expands the gameplay experience outside of the GBA and by providing a unique BattleChip in each version of Mega Man Battle Network 5, it really puts players in the role of Lan."
"MegaMan has a strong following, enabling kids to interact with the brand on a variety of entertainment platforms," said Geoff Walker, vice president of entertainment at Mattel. "This partnership with Capcom is a great example of how Mattel continue to look for strong cross-promotional marketing opportunities to help build consumer awareness within our target audience."
In Mega Man Battle Network 5, one month has passed since the clash ended with the Dark Chip Syndicate for Earth's existence. Now an evil organization called the "Nebula" is attempting to take complete control over the global Internet. Players must team up with other cyber heroes to liberate the Nebula-controlled areas of the Internet and stop this malevolent organization in the most exciting Mega Man adventure yet. Plug into flashbacks of stored digital data and images which will uncover information that may help resolve unanswered questions. Building on the prior Battle Network games, the Protoman and Colonel versions will be distinctly enhanced with different enemies, characters, souls and battle chips.
