Gamestop buys EB Games

Does this mean that the suckiness that is EB Games is gone forever? Or does this issue a dawn of a new, even more sucky retailer? Only time can tell.

I love capitalism.

Competition getting you down?  Who needs a competitive marketplace?  Lets just buy the competition, or better yet, prevent them from competing!

Yeah, except that's not really what capitalism is about.

One day the entire video game industry is going to be composed of two companies: Nintendo and whoever joined them, and everybody else.

Anyway, yeah.  I hate EB games.

Here in Canada we don't even have Gamestop so it matters little to me.  EB might get a name change and that's it.  And I doubt this will matter much in the States since I hear a lot of complaints about both chains.  So if you hate both chains and try to avoid shopping at them it won't matter if one doesn't exist.  Now you just have to avoid going to one store instead of two.

Are they changing eb games name to gamestop, or just taking them over.

I think it's pretty much just a name change. Keep the stores open, slap a Gamestop logo over the EB logo and done. One guy that works at the EB close to me was actually looking forward to the buyout, saying that they would finally get their ten-year old store new fixtures and such.

I never liked Gamestop.com.  I've always gotten better shipping deals and less headaches (like, if i enter a free 1-day shipping coupon code at gamestop, my 1-day shipping should be FREE, NOT $12.  ZEPHOS CURSE YOU, GAMESTOP!1) at Ebgames.com.

And EBgames stores around me usually had the better crop of 3rd party accessories, while the stuff I bought from Gamestop... broke.

There are 2 starbucks at either end of our local mall (Sun Valley Mall)
And their is a Gamestop on one end, and an EB at the other......
I wonder what is gonna happen, 2 Gamestops? or do they close one, or close both and open a really big one?

I was going to go work there and rub it in gamestops face..but now..er whatever.

My understanding was that it was a merger, except they're keeping Gamestop as the name.
