Eye to the "competition": Nintendojo
« on: November 05, 2004, 02:09:15 PM »
If you've seen the hell that is Nintendojo (according to Alexa's ratings, not as popular as Planet Gamecube thank god), you'll see what happens when people let their immature biases get in the way.

The people there are idiots. They always editorialize in their reviews, often - ironically - about "maturity" in games. They complain about cel-shading whenever it shows up, and act as though it exists for the sole purpose of being different. They use the word "kiddy" too much - what mature journalist does something like that? The guy who wrote the review of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door actually said that Paper Mario wasn't the "graphically stunning, mature epic" that players somehow expected after Super Mario RPG (yeah, what a "mature epic" that was, and what a thing we'd expect from Mario. Read review at http://www.nintendojo.com/reviews/NGC/view_item.php?1098138530 ).

And let's not forget their "editorials", ALL of which are stupid rants with little more than opinion put into them. Don't expect something that intelligently explores multiple points of view and comes to a conclusion. Expect a rant, especially if it's from Eric "I am an overgrown adolescent" Mattei.

The least they can do is to stop bragging about how they're Canadian. They must be making our neighbors up north look bad.

Anyway, my rant about Nintendojo is only to demonstrate what happens when maturity is not a pre-requisite for a job position. You can visit their site to see why Planet Gamecube is so much better. Keep up the great work guys.

I remember I started a thread about them last year(or maybe 2 years, can't remember) when one of their editorials  took some pot-shots at PGC. It was uncalled for IMHO, since I've never heard the Staff say anything bad about other indie sites.

Its a damn shame that the all the Nintendo-independent sites can't get along (though a good chunk come togther when GC-Advanced does a yearly round-up of Nintendo-related topics), but oh well. Guess I'm asking too much.

EDIT:Typos and stuff.

I guess that's what happens when journalizing isn't done by real journalists.

Anyone can start a website, not everyone has a clue.

I have enjoyed BOTH the dojo AND PGC for quite some time now. I find that although contrasting, they both offer me a great deal. PGC is more of the "cold hard facts" website while the dojo is more of the "fanboyish" site. PGC I can trust and respect for all of it's news, they are never fooled and don't buy into speculation as news stories and they don't report rumors as news either. The dojo on the other hand has always had an almost childlike innocence and goofiness to it that I have grown to like over the years.

The forums are quite different as well. If I want to spout off nonsensical rants I go to the dojo boards. If I want to know hardcore systems specs and analysis from a more unbiased viewpoint I come here.

I think PGC has seen better days (I miss Rick as we all do) but then again the dojo has definately been off of it's A game for a while now. I never bother with their editorials or reviews these days. Just their newsboard and their forums. On the other hand I get  more "full use" from PGC. From the reviews to the news to the boards and editorials I can always feel sure I'm getting high quality not high quantity.

At any rate, my point is that depending on what you're looking for, both sites have something to offer in their own distinctly different styles.

Nintendojo will be more popular then pgc once NOA finally takes control of it.
I really find no problem with there site.
People on there message boards are just having fun and seem more relaxed while PGC has alot of uptight users, who often act like mods (ie. posting in a thread that "this should be locked" or "ban" or something silly)
Then again Dojo is more rumor baised, but then again often they do use crediable sources.
They seem to post more 3rd party reviews also, while PGC seem to lean more towards a more review system baised around popularity of the title.

The one thing that they dont do that I hate about reviews on here is compare the games to ps2 or xbox games..it drives me insane
I have wanted to say that for a while, and I am glad I said it

So you'd rather have PGC review a title you wouldn't pay a buck for than a title you've been wanting for years?  You'd rather have PGC tell you, "teh coob verzun is teh l33t" when the Xbox or PS2 version is clearly better (as is the case with many games).  You'd rather have a forum overrun by useless crap than one that's professional, tidy, and where you can actually discuss things?  And you think that an NOA-run website will give you squat??

Mm-hmm.  Nintendojo's for you.

You know Kirby_, everytime I read one of your posts I think of the professor from Futurama because of your avatar.  I imagine it being in his voice and him yelling at the appropirate moments.  BAH!!  Damn you!
