Those aren't commercials, those are trailers. Commercials cost depending on their length, airing these monstrosities would cost a fortune.

The Mario Party 6 one was a commercial. God, I laughed.

Yeah, it seems that Japan makes these long trailers and then edits them down to the proper length for broadcast.

"Yeah, it seems that Japan makes these long trailers and then edits them down to the proper length for broadcast."

Why can't NOA do this.? Whenever Nintendo shows off a trailer at E3 everyone is all "Ooooo Ahhhhh" and then for the commercial they show like 1 second of really small and grainy footage and fill the rest of the time with dorks in costumes and/or some obscure Mr. Plow-like reference to the game that only about 0.0001% of the population can pick up on.

Here's an idea.  The trailers create interest so use smaller versions of them for commercials.  Not only does that make for a better ad it would be WAY cheaper to make.  No need to hire any actors beyond a voiceover.

Between the Japanese commercials (almost entirely gameplay, usually) and the American commercials, I vastly prefer the latter.  Watching gameplay is just boring.  That's why we play it.

"Watching gameplay is just boring."

It's not about what's entertaining it's about what convinces you to buy the game.

I want to see a game comercial that just shows the opening fmv from a game, and then has the words "Buy It" printed at the end of the commercial... I think that would be a great ad...

We could get into it, certainly, but there are so many factors it'd be useless.  I do think gameplay should be in the commercials, and more than they have now (or at least make it more coherent), but overall I like watching an awesome commercial more than just a game.  Both blended together is awesome.  I think the Who Are You? (referring to the Bounty Hunter, Avenger, Scavenger type ones) commercials give an excellent balance.

No it wouldn't because the opening FMV rarely shows off what the game is like. I remember the effect the Link's Awakening ads had on me: I went "WTF is this game about?" because there was ZERO in game footage and I didn't know the series at all.

I guess i should have qualified my statement on what type of game...one that is story driven....or even some of camelots fmvs....those would help sell the game..and the in game looks are close enough to them that its ok....  I dunno, gameplay won't sell to the people Nintendo needs to sell to....if that makes sense...
