Nintendo Gaming / RE:Warioware DS demo
« on: April 11, 2005, 10:02:49 AM »
Well, I went down there myself and it was exactly as joshnickerson described it. The screen registered touches on the initial screens (warnings and such) up until the Warioware Start screen. Then, I got nothing. I tried to get into the menu but it wouldn't let me, the demo started right up.
The bottom screen's not too bad, it only has maybe 3 or 4 real scratches, which I think is not too bad considering it's been up since launch and Metroid was the previous demo.

Hey, I need a quick hand. My cousin was at Wal-Mart where they have the Warioware DS demo. She claimed that she wasn't able to get past the Start screen no matter what she did. So is there something special you're supposed to do to play or is she just BSing me and doesn't know what she's talking about? Thanks.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:One day till Madden!!!
« on: August 13, 2003, 07:48:47 PM »
I think another reason sports games don't sell as well on the GCN as Xbox is the Xbox has sold over a million more units here in NA. That's got to count for something. I read in one of those reports that sports games make up 25% of the total games market.
I think that, combined with the memory card issues and possible controller issue add up.
I think part of the reason so many people love the DS2 is that they've played with it for so long. How many years ago did Sony come out with the first Dual Shock? You just get used to it. I'm not saying the DS2 is a bad controller or even just an average controller, not by any means, it's a really good controller but I prefer the GCN controller.
I'm keeping this positive (no use dwelling on the few little negatives about this game) and I want to mention a few of the little things that I think are really great.

-being able to switch packages out with one button press
-replays being shown while you pick your plays, it helps speed things up
-accelerated clock option, can help if you play long games
-the color of your players (on the picking plays screen) changing to show you their energy level (I know this isn't new but I still like it)

There's more but that's enough for now.

kennyb27- You may or may not know this by now (I got my copy today but maybe you didn't) but Owner mode is optional. You can enable or disable it if you want.
It's not really that complicated, though. Maybe it's just me, though. I'm a big stat nerd and a control freak.
And...I like Pokemon. It's no Yu-gi-Oh mind you but still cool nonetheless.

Note to those of you questioning why we buy a football game every year (and mind you I don't mean this in a snotty way or anything) but read bootang82's 2nd post and you'll see why this year is most definitely not a patch.
To make my say, I'm so damn excited about this game. I pre-ordered from Gamestop.com and those dirty SOB's better get my game to me soon.
The thing I'm most excited about is the Owner mode. So many options. But the Playmaker controls will rock as well. Pre-snap and post. And...the DB's don't suck!
Now Madden 2005 may be the game that people pass on. I mean, what else could they possibly add? Of course, having said that, I'm sure I'll still buy it.

How appropriate that you, a self-named hemmorrhoid, act like a festering boil. I hate baseball but you don't see me going into topics about it professing my dislike for the game do you?
And I don't know how old you are but the chairs certainly aren't made of chocolate.
To close, get back on the short bus and stick with what you're good at. Like maybe giving anal probes to stray dogs.
Oh, and the boxart looks pretty cool. Best of all (to me at least), no Triple H.

« on: July 29, 2003, 07:58:56 PM »
Well, this is how I see it. If they deliver on even half on what they've promised then it'll be better than GTA. The graphics are looking better, the world is bigger, and the voice-acting will be better. Christopher Walken, anyone? Plus Luxoflux worked on Vigilante 8 so the driving should be tight.
Now if they can deliver on the big things they've promised (great fighting engine, weapons in either hand, shooting while driving, etc.) and most importantly the branching storyline then this game should be considered for Game of the Year. I love the idea of a guy who escapes from you coming back later to kill you whereas maybe your friend succeeded in killing the guy and thus doesn't have to worry about him.
I'm hopeful about this game and it sucks that they delayed it back to November but if it makes the game better than I'm for it. I've already pre-ordered so I'm good to go.

I have nothing to add as to why this game is getting hyped, although on a side note I must add that the glitch in No Mercy just killed that game for me. It sucked so bad to do so much and have it all erased. That and the 2 on 1 matches all the time sucked.
Anyway, my opinion on the story mode is it's pretty f'n lame. I don't want to fight no name security guards in shopping malls or construction workers down at the dock and I sure as hell don't want to rescue Stephanie McMahon (why can't she just use that horrible shriek of hers to shatter the glass?) but the gameplay seems tight so I'm happy. If the CAW is really good then I'm set.

Nintendo Gaming / I think I finally may skip a year of football.
« on: June 30, 2003, 09:05:51 PM »
This year's Madden is the best reason to "update", as some put it since football changed to 3D. Playmaker mode has been touched upon but not fully. Not only can you tell your blockers who to block on the fly but you can also tell a receiver to come to an open spot if you're being pressured. Plus you can shift the schemes (blocking on O, rushing on D) without visible cues like words on the screen or flip the play. There's more too but I want to move onto the part I'm most excited about...owner mode.
You can set ticket prices, move your team, build your stadium, fire the coaching staff, and you're graded on your performance.
To me it's no question that it's worth it but if you're happy with the game you have then hey, don't buy 2004. There's plenty of games you can buy if you'd rather.

HolyPaladin- It's amazing how ignorant some people can be, huh? I mean, if they even knew how foolish they sound maybe they'd shut up. Or maybe not, as you've proven.

Infernal Monkey- They've added 2 huge new features to Madden 2004. Madden 2005 may be the one to skip if you're so inclined but not 2004.

Yeah, they both sound really cool but I don't know if I'll get either of them, though. I'm looking at a long list of possible games I may buy during the last half of this year and one or both may get bumped.

Nintendo Gaming / Question about Nintendo and MS
« on: June 26, 2003, 09:04:41 PM »
Well, I've been saying for a while how cool this would be. Think about it, you'd get great 3rd party support (compared to the much improved from the N64 but still lacking support we have now) and the great Nintendo 1st and 2nd party games. How can any gamer complain? The PS3 would stand no chance at all. Mario, Link, Metroid, Halo, Perfect Dark, and tons more. I think MS will sign GTA exclusive after the Sony deal runs out. I could go on more but you get the idea.
There's just one thing. MS would have to, have to, have to, absolutely have to be the ones to initiate this. Nintendo is much too proud to partner with MS so MS would have to be the one to bend. I'd be remiss if I didn't bring up that this partnership would have to allow Nintendo full autonomy when it comes to their games but we all know that Nintendo wouldn't agree to a partnership unless that was the case.
I'd love to see this happen but I don't think there's any chance it will. Never say never, though. Stranger things have happened.

Nintendo Gaming / OLED: The future?
« on: June 26, 2003, 08:54:02 PM »
Well, this is how I feel about it. The PSP (which won't be out for about a year let's remember) is going to cost $200 or so. That's huge because Nintendo can lower the SP to $79 by then or maybe (I doubt it though) even $69. I think the price thing is big enough but throw in the games and it's all but over. Sony's not stupid, though. I'm sure they realize this but who knows what they're doing about it.
As a side note, I personally can't picture myself playing any games on a small screen. Sure, some would be alright but others...
That's why I think the GBP is such a great thing.
OLED sounds really cool and should be in the next Nintendo handheld but there is no way, I repeat, no way that the PSP is a threat to the GBA. The N64 fell because Nintendo was stupid and stayed with carts. There were other reasons but that's the main one. The GBA is further ahead than the PS2 is to the GCN and Xbox so there's no problem there.
Now, if on the next handheld Nintendo makes a similiarly dumb move then we may have something but even if they do use carts then the backwards compatibility and low price may still save the day, so to speak. But who knows where the PSP will be at this time.

Nintendo Gaming / the most disheartening crap i have read.....ever
« on: May 27, 2003, 08:00:43 PM »
Well, here's the breakdown of what Capcom expectations are (taken from IGN)

PS2- 31(!) titles totaling 7.6 million units
Onimusha 3- 700,000 in Japan
Onimusha Blade Warriors- 300,000 in Japan and 100,000 in NA
RE: Outbreak- 500,000 in Japan and 700,000 in NA
They expect (on average) to only sell a little less than 250,000 per game. Now, of course game like RE: Outbreak and Onimusha 3 are way over that average so that means they must expect some bad sales on some of their other games.

Xbox- 5 titles totaling 800,000 units
Dino Crisis 3- 60,000 in Japan and 300,000 in NA and 220,000 in Europe
They expect the other 4 games they release on Xbox to only sell a combined 220,000. That's 55,000 per game, spread across an unknow amount of regions.

GCN- 7 titles totaling 2.2 million units
No numbers but this doesn't include RE 4 at all.
They expect (on average) to sell a little less than 315,000 units per game.

GBA- 9 titles totaling 2.04 million units
No numbers here either.
They expect (on average) to sell just over 225,000 units per game.

If you look at it like this then you see that Capcom actually expects higher average sales on the GCN than any other platform. Makes you wonder why they don't bring more games to the GCN if they feel that way. Of course, to be fair, I'm sure the PS2 average is weighed down by small niche titles (many of them unannounced at this time) that won't sell well despite being good games.

Nintendo Gaming / Harvest Moon:A Wonderful Life

Oh, I'm definitely getting this game. It sounds so cool. That time period is going to be hell. I'm getting Madden 2004 which'll come out in mid-August probably and I'm getting Wrestlemania XIX in mid-August as well then Harvest Moon at the start of September and also True Crime in early mid-Sept. Plus, if the gameplay is there I might get Simpsons: Hit and Run because the concept sounds really wacked out. That's 5 games in a 1 month span. How the hell can I do that? I guess I can just get the Simpsons game later but I love football, wrestling, Harvest Moon sounds really cool and True Crime should be bad ass.
What to do? What to do?

mouse_clicker- Yes, I know that. I am, after all, a member of the IGN boards. Have been for 3 years myself. But my point is that you guys are talking to me and the others here as though we're the ones obsessing over sales numbers. There isn't one person here freaking out about numbers yet you guys talk down to us like we are.

Yeah, TS2 is a really good game. If you can get together some people for multiplayer then you're cooking. I liked the story mode as well.

18
I just want to know where the hell you guys get the notion that anyone here is losing sleep or obsessing over sales figures. This is a discussion board you know. And we're discussing sales, big deal. That's no less relevant than someone discussing what they want to see in Nintendo's next console or the way their local game shop is set up. Honestly, you guys that come in here bitching are being much more anal than anyone else here. If you don't like these types of posts then don't read them. It's as simple as that.

19
PIAC, that would be an ideal situation. I wish we all only talked about games but the reality is this does affect the games we may get to play. Anyway, I've gone on about that long enough and since I don't see any more posts arguing about this hopefully it's been cleared up why this is important.
Crazy, I have 18 GCN games and that number will only increase (True Crime, Harvest Moon, Pikmin 2, Madden 2004, and a bunch more). I spend less than 5 minutes on these boards every day or so so it's not like I'm living on message boards obsessing about this topic. I love my GCN and have never once regretted buying it.

20
Sigh, let's try this again.
I've said it before and I will keep saying it until it's beaten into the heads of people who don't get it. If the GCN slips into 3rd in worldwide user base more and more companies will cut support from the GCN. It's as simple as that. You may say, "Ah, it's irrelevant now, no games I care about are cut." but what happens in the future? Sega dropped their entire sports line on the GCN because of low sales. And why is that? Because the GCN is in 3rd place in NA. You may not have cared but I did. And there were others like me who also cared. NBA Jam 2004 was just cancelled, along with some other Acclaim games I can't remember right now (Alias I think). And there's other games that have been cancelled. You may not care now but I think you will when a game you want is announced for another system, maybe a system you don't own.
And let me touch upon your comments where you said it's not like you're buying a car or anything. Let's use the PS2 as an example.

$180 for the system itself. Unless you only play by yourself all the time you'll need another controller so that's $20-$25 more. Got to have a memory card so there's another $20. What else? Oh yeah, got to have a game, add another $40-$50. There's $250-$275 right there. All for what, one game (tax not included)? And who buys a system for just one game? Add in another $100 for a couple more games. So you've spent $350 and you have 3 games. Not bad I guess but you could have spent that on 6 or 7 GCN games, double the amount of games you could play.
Yeah, Nintendo is the only company capable on supporting a system on it's own (with its 1st and 2nd parties) but is that what you want? Having just a few games come out a month, with maybe just a truly great game a few times a year?
Go ahead and dismiss this if you want but this is very real.

21
Here's the reason why the sales numbers are very important. As long as the GCN remains in 2nd place then 3rd party support will be around. But if the GCN slips to 3rd then we'll see an even bigger change then we're seeing now. Look at all the games that have been canceled for the GCN or the amount of games coming for the PS2 and Xbox but not GCN. Admittedly, most of the canceled games weren't going to be fantastic or system-sellers but added up they can become system-killers. If you really want a game and then you find out that it's coming to the PS2 or Xbox you may shrug it off but be pissed. But if several games you want aren't coming for the GCN you won't buy it.
This is very big. Yeah, far too often the moron fanboys use installed base as a way of saying, "My system is better than yours!" and all that but this is very important because 3rd parties will stop making as many games for the GCN if it drops to 3rd. And that means less sales which equals less 3rd party support which equals less sales and so on. It's a cycle that we want no part of. We can't rely on Nintendo pulling a MS and paying for games.
Yeah, 3rd party support is spectacular...compared to the N64. But compared to the PS2 and Xbox it's lagging. You may not like a game but that doesn't mean no one likes it either. For instance, I think those music/rhythm games suck but I know there's GCN owners who'd love them and DDR-whatever could be one of a handful of titles that help sell a GCN to somebody. They might say, "I can play DDR...and Zelda...and Metroid...and Resident Evil...and Rayman! Sign me up!" But if 3rd parties start pulling games then that same person may say, "Well, I'll buy a PS2 because I can play DDR, Rayman, substitute Silent Hill for Resident Evil, and Dragon Warrior, and Xenosaga, and Prince of Persia."
PoP and Rayman are on the GCN now but what if they weren't? If you really wanted those game wouldn't that make your decision easier to buy a PS2? Or an Xbox?

Nintendo Gaming / Sonys PSP vs. GBA- Does Nintendo have a chance?
« on: May 14, 2003, 08:37:40 PM »
I can't believe anyone is even asking this. Hell, I've even seen some dopes call this "the final nail in Nintendo's coffin." That's absurd. The PSP stands as no threat to Nintendo dominance in the portable gaming field. First, it won't even come out until late 2004. That's a year and a half away. What's the installed user base of the GBA right now? What will it be when the PSP comes out? How much will the PSP be? I could on about more stuff like how it's more profitable for companies to make games for the GBA (much higher installed user base) and how they can just port their older games over if they want but I'll end this arguement right here.
Asking if the GBA stands a chance would have been like asking, "Does the PS2 stand a chance?" when the GCN and Xbox were announced. We all know how that's turned out. Sony is doing this to make money and I think they will make money but there's no way the PSP is any kind of threat to the GBA.

Nintendo Gaming / the most disheartening crap i have read.....ever
« on: May 12, 2003, 07:53:43 PM »
Whoa, whoa, whoa here guys. The Magic Box is making the mistake of trying to interpret the news rather than report it. And they interpreted the news wrongly on top of that. Nowhere does it say that Capcom is cutting GCN support.
Here's the expected numbers for next year (which goes until the end of March 2004)
They expect GCN sales to be 2.2 million, down from 3.23 million this past year.
They expect Xbox sales to be 800,000, up from 280,000 this past year.
They still expect 1.4 million more sales from GCN compared to Xbox.
Why do they expect lower sales? Ask yourself this, what big name games from Capcom are coming out from now until the end of March 2004? None really. This is more a case of expecting lower sales rather than cutting games. Dead Phoenix is not dead, they just said there's nothing new to report on it. And the other games are still coming, although as alluded earlier V. Joe and Killer 7 may go multiplatform whereas P.N. 03 and RE4 are still exclusive.
Why do they expect more sales from Xbox this year (although still being much lower than GCN)? Simple, Dino Crisis 3 is releasing in a few months and that is considered a big game for Xbox. In fact, I think it's more telling that they only expect total sales of their Xbox games to be 800,000. Considering how long DC3 has been in development wouldn't you think they'd expect higher sales?
And all this crap about the exlusivity of the RE franchise should really stop. RE4 isn't coming out until (at the earliest) April 2004 in Japan which means a likely Christmas 2004 release here in NA. And if the next systems are supposed to come out in 2005 that would be the last RE game on the current consoles. And I suspect Nintendo will surprise a lot of people with their next system. Keep in mind that Yamuchi (I can't remember how you spell his name but you know who I mean) was in charge of the GCN but Iwata will be in charge of the next Nintendo machine and he's proven that he's not stuck in the past and unwilling to change.

24
Yeah, I was just trying to come up with something that has to do with Ichiro's game. I don't really care for baseball but I know he's a good contact hitter and he's fast.
Anyway, how about getting Barry Bonds to be the coverboy. I can see it now-
"Barry Bonds presents 'Roid Rage 2003"
or maybe -
"Barry Bonds presents MLB Juiced Up 2003"
That can apply to both the players and the balls.

Nintendo Gaming / new GCN games - "Fear" and "Ground Zero"
« on: May 08, 2003, 08:39:36 PM »
When I hear the name Ground Zero I think of a game about a post-apocalyptic future (is there any other kind?) where you play part of a strike alliance against some evil empire (be it alien or what) threatening to destroy the world. Perhaps the "bigger than anything else" comment refers to the storyline or maybe the world you're in or perhaps they're talking about the possible appeal of this game to the vaunted "casual gamer".
And as for "Fear", Matt from IGN has talked a few times about a Miyamoto game he knows of that he finds "baffling" as to why he's making it and how it would work, although he said since Miyamoto is behind it it should turn out good. I think that describes this game but who knows.
One last thing, I'm really dreading visiting message boards after E3 when a bunch of people bitch about there "not being any secret games" when people find out about all of them beforehand. Some people just don't get it that these are the games that were supposed to be secret.
