Nintendo Gaming / RE:When does it all come together?
« on: March 19, 2004, 08:49:53 PM »
There is one thing that suggest that there is a commonality to them all and that there is a timeline.  This is that we know OOT is the same link as MM.  We also know that WW comes years after OOT and the hyrule is under the ocean.  We know that OOT is the telling of the imprisonment of Ganon mentioned in LTTP.  Now this leaves the two NES games.  there really isnt a tie to the first one to any of them but the two NES games are related, and in adition to that there are name connections between AOL and OOT.  Primarily the sages and mido's names are used to name the towns.  So this is the same lineage that has passed down through the ages.  We just dont know for how long.

I must be extremely stupid. I was playing the adventures of link and I got fet up with it.  So then I started playing ocarina of time and I finished the first half of the game and became the hero of time.  When that happened and I met the first sage(and I had met him many times before) I noticed that every town but one in the adventures of link were named after the sages in ocarina of time.  Rauru(light), Sarai(forest), Darunia(fire), ruto(water), nabooru(the thief), the only one that doesnt have a town is impa.  Finally there are two towns left in the adventures of link.  One was named after our annoying friend mido, and the other doesnt have a reference.  I just cant believe I didnt see the connection this whole time.

I am running some statistics on the review process and I was wondering if anyone wanted to help.  The process of going through each review is time consuming.  If you would like to take 10 or 15 games on the list let me know and i will give you the games to enter into an excel document.  Let me know.

I am having a bit of fun now, and I was wondering if any of the mods or content editors had an excel document with every game and the breakdown of scores and possibly the editor of each.  If so I would get greatful if you could contact me and I could get it from you. I am currently going through game by game and it is taking a very long time.  When its done I will post the descriptive statistics and possibly some interesting finding on the ranking system.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:This article says: Gamecube Kiddy, buy Xbox
« on: December 19, 2003, 06:37:50 AM »
I completely disagree.  I loved the wind waker style and look forward to the next game to use it.  As for SMS, it was set on a tropical island paradise where color abounds(look at the rainforest and see that color is everywhere, even the poisonous frogs are colorful).

I also dont think that the EAD franchises became more kiddie.  I think that the games you mentioned have gotten progressively better.  I adored WW and SMS.  I havent played MKD yet, but if you look at the backgrounds in those games compared to N64 or SNES then you can see that it has gotten better as well. The sheer level of detail in all of these games makes them great.

I was having a discussion in another forum concerning mario kart lan specs.  I was wondering if anyone had a link to information that says the game purposefully slows down to 30fps in split screen lan.  If you do please let me know and post a link.

thx

Well when I turn it off I open the lid while the machine is still on and wait for it to come to a stop(its faster that way) then I press the PUSH button to take the game out.

To change games you can avoid turning it off by opening it, changing discs, and then pressing reset.

I would have to disagree with everyone.  I would get the gamecube with windwaker because for 100.00 you can get gamecube, windwaker, nintendo power, and the collectors disk(80.00 for gamecube and WW + 20.00 for NP subscription).   Or if you plan on getting any of the games that you can register anyway go for getting windwaker for free.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How come Nintendo dosen't talk about Warpipe?
« on: December 05, 2003, 06:35:36 AM »
I dont think nintendo will try to stop warp pipe from working, if anything(and this may be wishful thinking) they would decrease the amount of information that needs to be sent over a LAN so that it can work better with Warp Pipe.  The can do this with in game compression techniques.

« on: December 03, 2003, 01:21:07 PM »
you know what this conversation reminds me of?  The smurf discussion in Donnie Darko(excellent film you should see it multiple times).  And if the similarities continue then the only way to win is for someone to make an extremely odd comment about the various characters and end with some problem with a characters ability to be fruitful and multiply.

I can't stand it. I just can't stand it.

They are not polar opposites.  There is a difference between being easy to pick-up and play and being shallow.  They could have a lot more depth in the game with similar controls and mechanics.  It doesnt bother me that games have an fast learning curve but it does bother me that by the time you are at peak performance you are at the end of the game.

In respect to 1080, they could have kept the controls and physics of it, they could have made it the same in every mechanical detail but it would have been an infinetely better game had they made the tracks longer and allowed you to race multiple CPU charachters at once.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Cartridge Comeback?
« on: December 02, 2003, 02:19:21 PM »
We had a nobel prize winner named Alan Mcdearmid(not sure on the sp) come to my campus and give a lecture on his work with semi-conducting polymers.  He said that with it, it is possible to create more disposable products as well as the whole advanced shopping checkout where everything is in the cart and all of the items have a plastic chip with this technology in it with a transmitter(they had a shelf life of 6 months) you walked through a gate and it rung everything up.  He also mentioned creating a grid using a normal printer and transparency's.  The polymer stuck to the ink so you printed the grid you wanted on the transparency, sprayed it with the polymer and then pressed another transparency onto it.  the ink is removed after the polymer is dry with a chmical and you get that electrical grid.  He was very adament on the disposability and shelf life on these items though.  Because one is moving into organic natured substances it may introduce a faster degeneration then other non-organic substances.  I am sure many will think this post is off topic but I hope you found it interesting and maybe look up the name and the work to learn more about it.

« on: December 02, 2003, 12:26:02 PM »
no you do register their gamecube at nintendo.com.  Follow this link . . . actually in the bottom right corner of the website is a place to register games. or click on the register products link at the top of the page. It's all pretty self explanatory on their website.  First you have to register yourself on the nintendo website and sign in then register the games after you register everything you need to register then you will get a message that says you will have everything requried for the bonus disc and you will recieve your zelda bonus disc in the mail.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:1080 Avalanche

Its not comparing apples and oranges as much as you would think.  There are fair comparisons like framerate, track length, graphics, music, and since 1080 has a trick mode then even that can be compared because they opened themselves up for it.  As a racer the tracks should be quite a bit longer, its that simple.  I think that sometimes the argument of making sub genre's is used as an excuse to say that two games should not be compared when in all actuality they can be and should be.  Had 1080 pulled it off better then SSX 3 then no one would have any problem making the comparison.

Mario - Mario Sunshine
Zelda - Legend of Zelda : Wind Waker
Metroid - Metroid Prime.
Some games have the old NES games but there really isnt a disc with a bunch.  Animal crossing has 16 if you want to go through the hassel of getting them all in what is in my opinion a game that looses its appeal quickly.  Metroid Prime has the original NES metroid on it but you must beat fusion on the GBA and link the two games in orde to unlock it.

Well if you connect your DSL modem to your computer through USB and you have a NIC card on your PC you can bridge the two using windows XP and use a crossover cable to connect the gamecube to the NIC while you connect using the USB to the internet.  You run the software, find someone to play with and follow he direction on the screen.  Its really not difficult.  There are different types of ways of connecting including a hub or swits, or using a router.  Go here for detailed instructions.

I completely agree, I think it would be nice if there were spereate continents(not islands) that needed to be reached by sailing.  I think that would combine a lot of wind waker elements as well as allow for varied scenery and large land roving on a horse.   The continent thing has been done before in Adventures of Link and I think it would add a new style of play to the game.

I downloaded the video(took about 10 minutes).  I do have one suggestion though.  I dont know what program you are using to encode the video but I use a very nice program that lets you have completely control over size, bitrate, and bit/(pixels*frame).  It is nice because you can adjust resolution to match the size of the video you want and still get a good ratio to make the video look good.  Its called Gordian Knot, if your interested.

Also what happened to the long speal that is at the bottom of all of their emails.  The information about joining the site so that you can have up to date information.  I have never recieved an email from NOA that didnt have this on the bottom.

Im not saying that I dont believe you but the email is kinda short for Nintendo.

Ocarina i highly disagree with your logic to buy MKD.  Buy DD for its own sake.  It is nothing like F-zero and while Fzero will fulfill your need for speed, MK and its special item hijinx will fulfill that need to destroy all of your friends in a rousing battle mode match(and with lan capabilities they dont even need to be in the same state).  The bonus disk is great but there are so many other reasons to buy Mario Kart.

Bring on the Battle. :-)
