Nintendo Gaming / RE:Modded Wii DVD playback
« on: August 29, 2007, 06:51:04 AM »
I don't want the Wii to play DVD's. I already have a DVD player. It was said at the conference last year they weren't putting one in coz most people already own one or more, plus it would have added to the price of the system. I like that the Wii is a "Games Console"  with no bells and whistles. The Wii is seen as a step behind the PS3 and 360 because of Graphical capabilities, and since those 2 have moved onto HD-DVD and Blu-Ray its just another way of makin the Wii look behind if they're gonna use a DVD player.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:System Update
« on: August 17, 2007, 03:52:57 AM »
Another couple of updates in version 3 that have gone by un-noticed.

1. On the wii options screen (EG - screen, sensor bar) You can now press + and - to go from the left to right screens, just like the main channel screen. Originally you had to click the arrows on the sides (Yayyyyy)

2. When you recieve a message (Not including play history) the little envelope in the bottom right of the Wii channel screen will pulse and make a noise.

3. Also: before if the Wii was on standby and flashing blue indicating a recieved message, the flashing stopped once you'd turned on the console. The drive now stays flashing blue until you've checked your messages.

4. The drive flashes a different pattern when you get a message to how it used to. It now goes from dark blue, to light blue, then blinks twice before repeating.

Its nice finding little changes like this. Anyone else seen these, or have I missed any?

Dan.

Yeah I was just gonna say, after the update we've been talking about. I got a new one today. Here's what it said:

"A new update for your Wii console is available!

This update will prevent your Wii console from locking up, which can occur when using the internet channel if you press reset on either your wii console or the home menu. This update also corrects some internet connection stability issues when using the Wii LAN adapter from Nintendo.

Please press the update button on the bottom right to update your Wii console.

- - Nintendo."

Oh and I was going to ask, on the subjects of updates. I went to the shop channel, and on some of the titles I'd downloaded, they had an "Updated" tag on them, which was a free download which didn't cost any space or points. When I checked the games they were still the same. What to the VC game updates do?

Thanks.

Dan.

I haven't read everything people have read about the update, or if we got the same update here in the UK. Haven't checked the version number, but the new differences here are:

1. Clock now displayed on Wii menu
2. Play history envelopes are now hite, not yellow and have the Internet channels sound effects when you browse up and down your play history.
3. The calendar used to display an envelope on the monthly calendar display for every day you'd played. It doesn't anymore, you can still view them if you click the date. Envelopes are only displayed for events E.G you get a medal in Wii sports or someone has sent you a message.
4. Every time I inseret or eject a disc, the blue drive light flashes.
5.The Wii shop channel looks completely different. Its got a much better layout and I think loads a little faster. You can also search for games on Virtual Console by typing the game name into a search bar.

That's all I've noticed so far. I don't think this is Reggie's surprize, as he said that's coming at the end of September. I'm guessing its something downloadable, seen as this surprize was originally going to be available at launch.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Will Virtua Cop 3 Come to Wii?
« on: June 25, 2007, 11:13:54 AM »
The reason I asked about VC3 Is coz there is like "NO" coverage of it on the web that I could find. Screenshots, and I never saw it on Sega's page. Its way better than hotd 4 so I hope we get Virtua cop 3 long before hotd 4. Unfortunately I didn't get to play Ghost Squad. Wish I had. Looked to use a sub machine gun. Wonder how that would work with the wii mote. In terms of what they might release along side to play it for arcade experience.

Nintendo Gaming / Will Virtua Cop 3 Come to Wii?
« on: June 25, 2007, 09:58:47 AM »
Just wondering if anyone had any insight and if I was the only one who'd been living under a rock and didn't know about this game's existence. But it was a huge surprise to me nontheless when I played it in the arcade yesterday. I seriously hadn't ever heard of a Virtua Cop 3 and its been a dream of mine for years. Did I miss something. Oh and also, I got some hands on experience of House of the Dead 4. And compared to Virtua Cop 3. IT STINKS AND I HATE IT. LOL. I'll go more into why in a later post. I'm posting this from my Wii since my laptops in for repair and the Virtual keyboard is MURDER! Everyone get back to me soon. Seriously I saw the cabinet and had to a mental check like 5 times to make sure what I was seein' lol.

Peace Out.

Nintendo Gaming / Wiimote Speaker Pre-Lag
« on: June 08, 2007, 07:31:20 AM »
I wasn't Sure where to ask this but I thought this would be the best place.

I just wanted to check the timing of everyone elses wii mote speakers to situations on the Wii.

I just bought a new TV and the timing of the Wii mote speaker noises are completely different on this TV to the other. So which TV was right and which was wrong, and which timing situation is right and which is wrong?

On the internet channel: Highlight a clickable object, my wiimote speker clicks first, a split second later my tv's speaker clicks. On my old tv, both clicked in unison.

Its not just with the internet channel, although this is my best example, this also happened on Wii sports and Excite Truck, it seems the mote is ahead of the games. Although in Wii sports this does sound better in a way and more 'depth of soundy' So I was wondering. Which is right? Are the sounds on screen meant to be in sync with your remote or is your mote meant to be a little ahead? Please help. I'm just a little confused as its only happened with this TV. Thanks.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Heres an interesting RE4 video ad...
« on: May 26, 2007, 11:41:00 AM »
Still, its good to watch. And was made with a Japanese audience in mind. Hence where the vid came from. Its pretty cheesy but is a good way to break the boundaries of control and to make games really seem more intuitive. This was the best way to do it, like when actors were made to really swing the mote like pro golfers.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:2007 First Party List
« on: May 04, 2007, 10:25:22 AM »
I wouldnt mind having an american unit. As if it isnt hard enough getting a Wii, though. I don't really mind the wait, or I havent in the past with other systems til Nintendo left us high and dry. The only thing thats really annoyed me about the euro Wii is 50hz games on Virtual console. Thats all really. I think the reason Ninty arent releasing games is because the Wii is doing ok on its own as it is in europe. No point bringing out the new/best games til the system needs it. Thats what I like to believe anyway.

Is one of Nintendo's strategies to screw Europe? Barely any dates announced and we're getting everything last.

What are we supposed to play? Seriously. I've had the same 4 games for about 2 months now. They to last me til??? 3rdQ of this year?

« on: May 02, 2007, 10:24:46 AM »
Speaking as a hardcore game gone 'Hardcore-Casual' My point was, the Wii is a very popular system. And there are going to be alot of people out there who are disapponted with how the games aren't as easy to pick up as the console is. Fair enough if TP had stayed on the gamecube. But with it being on the Wii, it wasn't at all like I expected. I expected hardcore games to have a more casual approach, or to be reinvented to give them new life. Like Resident Evil 4 did. And they're just about to do it again with Umbrella Chronicles.

I think 'intuitiveness' is a big part of my point as well. Zelda had me coming away frustrated almost every time. As did Red Steel. But i'm guess i'm judging too early as all these games are firsts on wii with the new controls. I'll be more inerested in checking out the sequels that are designed from the ground up for Wii and with some experience in the control mechanisms.

I totally agree with you ShreddersDojo. Hand me an oar, I'm in the same boat.

I got about half way, or 2/3rds of the way through TP. But it was long before that, that it stopped being fun and just felt like 'work'. I'm not really into that kinda fantasy stuff. But I picked up Zelda at launch because it was so hyped. Also it didn't look like a typical Zelda so it 'did' look like it was meant to appeal to more gamers, not just Zelda fans. Also the concept of the console is its for everyone so go figure.

I'm exactly the same. I like games that you can just 'play' Resident Evil 4 is the best example of what i'm talking about.

The Wii is a console for everyone. So when I see games coming like Zelda and Metroid, I feel like i'm being punished for not being a Nintendo fan.

I'm a SEGA fan from back in the day, so I can't enjoy an RPG like Zelda, but I can enjoy an RPG like Shenmue.

I am looking forward to paper mario, it does look like a pick up and go kind of game (I loved NSMB) and the puzzles are meant to be simple. There's nothing wrong with hard puzzles (in a game like resident evil 1 where the pace is slow) but in a game like Paper mario where you're running around alot you don't want to stop for a long time to figure out one puzzle. Which was probably my biggest gripe with Zelda.

This also happened with Secret rings -  you're running at high speed then you're brought to a crawl by either misplaced enemies or the horribly crippling collision detection. Developers need to think more on the pace of a game and how it plays at said pace.

Gamers like myself are in the worse possible spot. You're not a 'casual gamer' so you don't get all the kicks you should from games like Wii Sports or warioware, but i'm not a Ninty hardcore fan either, so I'm not into the stuff Nintendo are hyping and putting all their effort into like Zelda and Metroid.

Nintendo, you've made the console for everyone. Now make the games for everyone too!

« on: April 28, 2007, 05:28:05 AM »
I think Reala's set to return as a villain. Still, nothing is being said about the game. Except that its coming. Maybe they're just giving fan time to settle down before they reveal anything else. Except we're not that excited, especially since we know who's making it!

But... A few of the team members from the original NiGHTS are in the team. I know the original composer is back, as is the lead designer/developer of course.

Anywayyyy, back to NiGHTS news.

I know there isn't much right now. But rumours are circulating that Reala is set for a return.

People are confused about the time dimension of the game. Wether its before or after the original.

I got the new issue of NGAMER and the coverage has given me some confidence in this game. Although still little has been released about Characters, plot etc.

But can we shut up about Graphics now? When did everyone become such Graphic Wh*res (thankyou sony) and why only so tough over this game?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Prediction: RE5 will be on the Wii
« on: April 16, 2007, 02:09:34 AM »
I hope you're right about RE5 coming to Wii. I think i'm repeating myself but, how could Nintendo work so hard to get the entire series to Gamecube and then just not bother with the final chapter? Nintendo need to fight for resi 5. But it could happen. Resi 4 on Wii seemed a bit silly to me, maybe they really are just using resi 4 to get used to the hardware.

There's a claw machine in my local shopping centre thats full of Nintendo cuddly toys! I so want one but I don't wanna look like a fool standing there for ages losing lol. But I have seen people win a couple of times.

Yeah that guy is so lucky. Damn, what a buzz he must have got when the Wii dropped. Hope it didn't damage it when it dropped.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Resident Evil
« on: April 07, 2007, 11:05:36 PM »
Hmm, yeah. I agree. Code Veronica was boring. Ok not boring just far too long. But it was still better than Resident Evil 3.

I really hope the Wii gets Resi 5. We know Graphics can't stand in the way anymore since 360 games have already appeared on Wii. They might not look as good but at least you can still play them.

I was a bit freaked when I heard Umb.C was gonna be on rails. And I still am. I was really hoping it would control just like Resi 4. But I see now that they want to change the style with each game. Umb.C is the end of Umbrella so where does Resi 5 fit in? I think it daft that Nintendo worked so hard to bring Nintendo fans up to speed with the series, Remakes and even releasing the 2nd and 3rd 'playstaion' games on the Cube. Then not bringing us the 5th which after #4 looks like it'll be a crucial chapter. I really don't want to have to buy a 360 just for Resi 5

Controls: I was hoping this is how it'd work if #5 came to Wii (since Umb.C is on rails i'll move my control plot to 5.)

Aiming: pointing at the screen puts your gun up (no aim button to hold) and B to fire. To aim point at the screen and to turn the camera (just like on 4) use the Thumbstick. So its the same as 4. But instead of your aim just being locked in the centre you have the ability to point out.

I think this would be pretty flawless, using the thumbstick for the camera, since you can't move while you aim anyway.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:New game idea thread
« on: April 07, 2007, 10:52:19 PM »
Yay for my idea

I came up with it watching Hockey Fight vids on the web. I was just thinking how we already know the Wii is aweosme for sports, they need to make a game for just about every sport. But really tighten up on the controls. I don't know alot about hockey, but how hard you swing the Wiimote would determine how far you passed the puck.

What about a Wii Sports 2? You can use your Miis again but for more sports, Hockey, Soccer etc more 'Team' games. I'd love to see all my Miis running round on a Hockey Rink or a Soccer Pitch. Hilarious and fun.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Forgive me father, for I have...
« on: April 07, 2007, 10:45:12 PM »
I haven't tried it yet. But do you have to take the Miis from your controller and put them into the Plaza to use them. When choosing Miis for Wii sports it would be good if you could select 'Wiimote' and pull some favs from there ready to play. Extra space for favs without searching, there.
