When this model comes out I will be taing advantage of the $120 anything goes warrenty!  I'll send it in, the store sends me $400 gift card, and I may even get the new model along with a price drop.

One minor complaint, it is loud.  The new processor will be quieter.  It's usually no big deal because 6.1 surround is more fun urned up anyway, but late night playing makes it noticable.

Artimus, you misunderstand... I guess I was looking for something "NEW TO ME" ... 360 shooters may not be new to you, and I do se your point, but you cant define me.  I cant play these games on PC, and only (usually) stick to 1 console per cycle.  I have new gear to play on which is a HUGE step or me, so the graphics thing is wowing me right now, but the complicated buttons and controls are also NEW TO ME (not assuming they are to more regular gamers) and actually make it fun for me to learn the games, the controller, the type of software is all different for me.

I dont want to play monkey ball this time, excite does nothing for me, I have 3 versions wario ware, I've got all of super mario on BA and DS, animal crossing and nintendogs =eh.

GC was the different experience for me when it came out to (pikmin had me sold), after I skipped N64 for PS1... so maybe next time around I'll come back to my (mostly) beloved nintendo.

I should state that I do not get to play very often, so when a console has 6-7 games already on my must have list, I am really pretty well set for a while.

Well, I got mine over a week ago.  Good deal to.  Grab the 2 year "anything goes" warrenty, and free controller.  Ranibow 6 Vegas for $40 and a few CHEAP games (tomb raider, kameo -for the kids, and dead rising).

It is AMAZING.  This is a new experience for me, and it looks way better than I thought on my 42" plasma, and in 6.1 surround.  Truly impressive.  I never thought I'd support Microsoft but this console has impressed (granted it hasnt broke yet -and I know it will, but Im covered anyway).  Seriously, it is new and fun for me to play these realistic games that I guess I was missing out on (rainbow six multiplayer is quite cool).  The controller is a fantastic, interface is great and I havent even taken it online yet.  This is next gen for me.  And as a nintendo fan for years (especially during SNES, and then the GC), I am very happy.  There are more games I really want (gears, viva, halo3) and with those alone this generation is covred for me... I can totally understand why and how people get so hardcore with these games, especially online.  It's a whole world I'm discovering and I am glad Nintendo had no Wii for me.

You've all been very helpful with all my new gear.  Have fun!

With the controllers, do I use regular batteries, or do i need to the charge while you play accessory?  Am I able to watch dvd's, etc without getting the remote control?

ebgames.com has pro bundle with some of this stuff for $500 and I don't remember now, but I think that includes a second wireless controller, which makes it a good deal (i may be mistaken though).

hmmm...I'd like to wait on my purchase of the premium package for the price drop (I think it to happen sometime this spring, or earlier), and also wait for this new low heat processor, but I am positive I won't be able to hold out until then.

General Gaming / RE:Why isn“t anybody discussing Banjo-Kazooie 3?
« on: December 26, 2006, 10:23:50 AM »
I just bought kameo for $9.  I'd never pay $60 or even the 'usual old price' of $50 for it, but for I am looking forward to playing it, if only to run around and look at the pretty pictures.   Plus I needed something for my niece and nephew to play since the 360 is far from a family console.  No way (in hell) they're playing gears of war or dead rising.  When is halo3 coming out anyway?  I cant wait to jump into that (it's all new to me as this is my first generation where nintendo is not my first choice).

Banjo?  eh, well see how it turns out, my interest is pretty low though but I havent played a decent platformer adventure game in a while.

IceCold, I can only buy one console at least for quite a while.  It was Wii, but during the wait a few 360 games caught my attention.  I always thought the "HD-era" game thing was kind of overblown (and to most people it probably is -but it is new to me), and you know, now that I have this new stuff sitting here, I'd really like to put it to use!  And since my gear has been so outdated for so long -I'm looking forward to it.   The big games I love from Nintendo won't be out for a while now, some like Pikmin (which helped decide my gamecube purchase at launch) havent even been announced.  So I'll give Wii some time, and I will hopefully be playing the few cool games that aren't possible on Wii (that not a dig) that take advantage of my new gear.  Thats all there is to it.  The Wii hunting isn't really the cause as much as a missed sale, which I may make later but not until some more developed games and after a price drop, etc.

When I said I've started grabbing used games, I meant literally right now... as I was typing that message I was ordering 2 games.  You see, once I decide what I'm buying (in this case, the 360 using my Costco membership -as suggested here- and hopefully with extended warrenty, etc.), I start grabbing games on my list when I find them "cheap".  When I get the console I'll already have most or all of the intitial 5 games already ...oh yea, that should be a very fun day.
thanks to everyone that offered tips.

I agree Kairon, and it's weird to say it but Nintendo has lost me -possibly for this generation.  I am a 'one console' owner, and the Wii hunting combined with no games for Wii that really excite me surprised me.   I may grab Wii  much later after a price drop and some actual games are released.  My new gear (42" plasma, surround, etc) definetly played into this decision and XBLive is something I've never even thought about, so I am  getting excited about "new for me" type of gaming as a change for me, after holding out for Nintendo's plans to unfold while ignoring GC for what, 2 years?  I havent been playing anything on a console other than quick replays through GC classics that I dont care to finish again.

Wii has 1 game I want... and it's the GC game.  Only problem is it's sold out for GC already and everyone's saying it was a limited run?   Playing Zelda would get me through until a 360 price drop and/or bundle.

I think 360 will drop and/or bundle once ps3 and Wii are regularly in stock and I think they will be more 'platinum hits' very soon too.  I'm already buying 360 games at reletively fair used prices, and will NOT buy anything new (except maybe Halo3) for the $60.  One of the benefits to being late to the party I guess.

Kairon, I am more interested in console gaming right now than my DSlite.  I just got a 42" plasma, surround sound, Wii component cables, and a complete redisign of the room, largely for this generation of games... so that is definitely added to my impulse...and everytime I can not get Wii I walk by amazing footage of Gears of War ttempting me... but I'm going to try to hang on a little longer.

An my PC is so far outdated it's better if we just pretend I dont even have a computer for now.

No you're right.  I did have a slim PS2 for a few months (sold it for dslite), and played the few games I wanted.  360 has 4 so far that I want.  I am an interesting bend od casual and hardcore gamer... hardcore in my own personal tastes and demand for quality, yet casual in the limited time I have with playing, so when I do play, I am actually very picky.  But geez you can't blame me for being bored, if it weren't for the few interesting games per year (usually from nintendo) I wouldn't even bother.  I've decided to wait out the 360 until a cool bundle or price drop, and give some more time to grab Wii so I can cool my jets a bit.

Pap, you're not alone.  I am still Wii-less as well.  A month after launch (and non stop Wii hunting) and I'm getting a bit cranky, bored and looking at the 360 for my gaming fix since gamecube has been pretty much useless for over a year while I held out for Wii.  I even put off buying a dvd player when Nintendo annouced Wii would play them, so my whole entertainment center is pretty much void until I find Wii.  I blame no one really, well except the stores that horde their shipment to exaggerate hype with the line ups and al that BS, and my location probably has something to do with it too.  But this week I have been REAL close to putting off the Wii purchase, probably indefinitely, while I buy and play xb360 (I can't really afford, do not play enough to justify, and choose not to go the multiple console route) .  Hang in there though, you'll find one by mid-January at the latest!

General Gaming / XBOX360 questions
« on: December 14, 2006, 04:17:44 PM »
Well, the repeated delays of getting myself Wii has made me quite bored and a little frustrated, so I thought I'd take a closer look at some 360 games.  I'm a very selective gamer (even by nintendo fan standards), and I don't play for more than 12 hours per week at the most, but with my brand new surround system, new 42" plasma HDTV I really want some games in HD widescreen, and looking awesome.  I agree graphics aren't everything, but some of these games like Gears of War, Dead Rising, Viva pinata, and no doubt halo3 have me excited to play it because this is my first time with decent gear (I've never even bought a dvd player).  Experiencing eye popping graphics seems new and fun to me.

Before I take the plunge on the Premium system, I have a couple questions.

1.) my main reservation is reliability.  I do not trust the hardware, I do not trust micro$oft, and I do not believe their customer service is reasonable or helpful at all, from what I've read.  So what is the story on reliabilty of new 360's, and of customer service?

2.) overheating seems to be an issue early on, have they done anything since launch to correct problems or to remedy heating (or other) issues?  I have seen some attachment devices such as cooling units and things ...are these recomended?  Does anyone buy these, or are they cash-in gimmick item(s)?  I can NOT spend $400 on a malfunction!!

3.) The premium package seems to have everything I need, but are there other expenses and things I have overlooked?

I guess that gets me started.  Maybe they'll have a price drop or bundle after the holidays?  Or maybe I'll find a Wii tomorrow and it will curb my gaming impulses.  honestly the thought of jumping the nintendo ship, even if only 'planned' breifly, and for a microsoft product makes me feel ...dirty (especially after they've spent the past 6 years insulting me as an adult gamer for my choice=nintendo), but man I'm bored, I am sick of Wii hunting or almost a month now, just to find out stores are hording their stock for 'another black friday do over' camp out.

Oh well, any words of wisdom from multiple console owners?

dude, that giant squid show was really cool.  And the one about ocean life done using CG graphics was even better.

Uncle Bob, any word on Wii + Walmart?  I have no Wii

And also, do the GBA games look all pixalated and jagged on the big screen, or more like SNES?

I wonder if the update that was causing problems on lots of the launch Wii caused them to hold back systems.  Also the strap issue will proably cause further delay while they replace the new systems with a better strap.  At this rate, probably by spring I'll be able to walk in a store and only have to stand in line for 10 hours or so to get one.  I've never tried so hard to give a company my hard earned dollars before.

I'm sure quite a bit of those zelda copies are people like myself, that have no Wii available.  I have Zelda, SD card, new tv, new surround system, Wii component cables, and there are no systems in any stores around here, and the online bundles are still stupid and still out of stock anyway.

I am sure there are many people in the same boat as me, and who wouldn't buy Zelda when they have the chance when we all thought Nintendo gamers would have the system by now.  I only know one person with Wii -he works at EB.

General Gaming / RE:Analysts Predict Apple May Join Video Game Business
« on: December 06, 2006, 08:28:19 AM »

EDIT: guess Ian beat me to my point...

'i-pod game'

imagine all the classic, plud flash games, plud all the indie games that are so great for handhelds, done right on a slightly modified i-pod video... add touch controls (and maybe even built in tilt sensors) and non-games, and you've got the cool next i-pod.

And that could work out since it will still work as a regular ipod, and I know people that always buy the 'new model'.  Wifi gaming and game downloads at the apple store and apple could do pretty well.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How many Wiis have you sold?
« on: December 05, 2006, 06:53:13 AM »
I have not sold anyone on Wii, after all I can't find one for myself.  The family is constantly searching during their shopping too and it's getting quite annoying actually.  Because of the false demand (stores holding Wii until specific days to increase store traffic is just plain bullshit) I'm definitly not that excited for it anymore, even after playing a little bit of 6 launch games. So until people calm down a bit after the holiday and post holiday rush I should be able to get one for the new 42" plasma, new surround system, and I even got component Wii cables ready to go... Funny thing is, besides Zelda, the only games Im interested in (re)playing right now are my gamecube games with this new setup.

Uncle Bob, does this mean they are not and/or can't sell Wii before "8AM"?  Or is it that the shipments come in the night before after most stores are closed??

and thanks for the tip.

That's a bit misleading.  I bet many of those Zelda sales are people buying them that don't have Wii yet.  After all, we've ben hyped to no end to 'buy when you can', so I have stuff already ordered, including zelda, cables, SD, and controllers, but no Wii anywhere around here.

I'm still without Wii.  Does anyone (uncle bob?) know of the next Walmart shipment?
It looks like one chain get bulk shipments at a time.  All the walmarts near me (well, closest is over an hour away) are still saying they've only recieved the launch shipment and always tell me in a somewhat rude manner they don't know when more are coming.  Whats up?!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Should I get a Wii now?
« on: November 25, 2006, 02:32:51 AM »
dude, don't worry, even if you wanted a Wii now you can't get one.  Launch shipments sold out the first day, very few places (and only in specific locations) have had any restock at all.  Nintendo has to stock up for Japan, and Europe launches and I would imagine the manufacturing plants are working on those consoles now.  So, don't even think about getting one -especially- if you are worried about price, because the price gouging and bundles scams is the only way you can get one, and even that is not easy.
