Nintendo Gaming / RE:No More Heroes for Wii!!!! ANOTHER UPDATED 12/3/06

damn shame

Goichi Suda, otherwise known as Killer 7 and No More Heroes director Suda 51, claims that third-party titles for the Wii aren't selling in his home land and that only Nintendo is really profiting from its success.

Speaking about the sales of No More Heroes in Japan, he told us, "Whilst the sales weren't as high as I hoped, other titles for Wii aren't selling so well either. Only Nintendo titles are doing well. This isn't just because of the current situation in Japan, as this is happening outside Japan."

He also expressed surprise over the casual audience that has been the primary adopters of the Wii. "Actually I was very surprised about the reality about Wii, because before I was making this game, I wasn't expecting that Wii would be a console targeted only for non-gamers. I expected more games for hardcore gamers. The reality is different to what I expected".

No More Heroes was released in Japan last year to impressive reviews, but failed to set the retail world alight. It's been reported that on its launch day, it took twenty minutes for someone to buy a copy at a signing, and even then it was a journalist from Famitsu.

The Wii title is released in the UK on February 29. Based on NGamer's glowing review, we hope and pray it does better over here.
Look out for our full interview with Suda 51 later this week.

And I debate what that means because I believe they have not (in those 10 years) demonstrated that they have the manpower to fully pick up the slack in the face of weak 3rd party support. Therefore, the overall supply of gamer games has not been "enough". Nintendo is not big enough to do it alone. Third parties matter immensely, but they simply have not shown up.

But the point is with the Wii it's not Nintendo's fault for the loosely third party support.  Nintendo has done a lot to try and get third parties back but if the third parties are too stupid then there's not much Nintendo can do.  Plus since the Wii is the dominate system, Nintendo shouldn't to jump through hoops just to get third parties back anymore.  In the past third parties always went to whoever was market leader, until now where they refuse to even though the Wii is the dominate system.

Until third parties finally wake up then all Nintendo can do is release their own software, but unlike the N64 and Gamecube, it's not entirely Nintendo's fault for it's system not having enough games.  The blame this time lies mostly on the third parties which makes it the third parties creating lapsed gamers, not Nintendo.

I agree to some degree, but this is Nintendo's system and thus their project. They have no choice but to support it so that THEIR investment does not die. Third parties do whatever the hell they want, they dont have to follow any of our requirements, thats why they continue to support the PS3. Yes their sales are bad but they want to see their creation on THAT system.

and to those criticizing the 'whiners'.. shame on u.. lol @ u all of the sudden caring that peter's grandfather played the wii for 3 minutes. lol @ the change of heart towards the main consumers of a system, when it was the ps2 they were dumb drones, now they're the intelligent buyers... these 'whiners' were the 1 who stuck thru da thick and think when the purple lunchbox was one of the worst consoles ever....
....bring it

I also feel that Nintendo is creating more lapsed gamers, and i believe its due to the fact that it DOES have to cater to two audiences.

NOW..... what Nintendo fans are (shockingly) forgetting is that the same people who you criticized for goin out in droves to get GTA and madden are the sammeeee people who are buying into the wii now. Just because the wii has sold millions of copies doesnt make those consumers more important, but to Nintendo Corp., are more valuable than us long time fans. With that said, the market has shifted to attract these people and being this 'phenomena' has shown us that perhaps the wii will need another year to adapt to the fact that it's dealing with different demographics.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii to feature same online structure as the DS

Well V-Mario has a point about jumping into conclusions....

Or.. maybe i'm just being hopeful this is a really good, early April Fool's Joke, because seriously it sounds too dumb to be true. Never before have I wanted to be in the Conference room where this was decided so i could find out WHY... Like what are the pros and cons of Nintendo's implementing a RATIONAL online system as compared to this... um "plan"...

hmm.. Wii 2 2009?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Is Nintendo holding Miyamoto back? (or vice versa?)
« on: February 22, 2007, 04:05:35 AM »
hmm.. I think Nintendo just needs to let more guys have freedom as far as creativity goes. That way we don't worry about Nintendo holding back Miyamoto as long as person X and/or developer Z are supplying us with new ways of gaming. Contrary to popular belief, Miyamoto IS human and not unique and though he might never be duplicated with all of his innovative successes, I'll be happy if a developer can replicate 1 of his creations.

How anyone is opposed to online gaming is beyond me. It's like your government trying to limit you to speaking to people on this forum if you don't know them in real life and you not being known for your S/N but as IP # 192.122.23.01... WTF? Nobody is asking for some out of this world experience but it would definitely be a plus to have a central lobby system where i can challenge players when it's 1 am at night and i feel like playing some multiplayer. The Wii already has parental control, why not extend it to limit the system when children are playing? instead everyone suffers.

The thing is, you just proved that Wii doesn't need any more power. The PS2 is, in your words "still selling like hotcakes". The most inferior system of last generation is selling better than vastly superior next gen systems. Obviously power isn't everything. As for the newness of the Wii, if developers are smart, it won't wear off. There are just so many ideas out there that have yet to even be imagined. We'll have to wait and see how that plays out though. I have faith in Nintendo. 3rd parties? Not so much.

My apologies, when I mentioned PS2 i failed to also note that I used it because of its' relationship with the other systems. PS2 wasn't as inferior to the GC n xbox as the Wii is to the 360 n PS3. I'm thinking about 2009 and 2010 when all systems are giving us all they got.

BTW I dont think we can use the DS as an example of anything because it's a whole different monster from console gaming and pointing out it's number #1 shows nothing about  the status of the Wii. Plus did you enjoy your GC less because it was #3 last gen?

It was practically on the same level as the XBox but a lot of developers (see: all) managed to make games on it that looked worse than the average PS2 game. All that power going to waste. I can completely understand why Nintendo gave graphics the heave-ho this generation. They played that game last generation and got crapped on for it. Why put something in your system that almost no one is going to take advantage of?

Hmmm.. i see what you're saying but i don't think the last generation should be used  for any indication because of all the factors that led to it, i.e; Disc size, 3rd Party Title sales, GC's consumer composition. However when i mentioned it should had been a bit more powerful i was thinkin more about the future because i believe it will hinder the Wii in a few years when the 360 and PS3 get price cuts and the newness of the Wii wears off. Think about why Sony fumbled the PS3 because Microsoft forced the next Gen on them when they were very happy with the PS2, which is still selling like hotcakes NOW, many systems and years later. Who wouldn't want that kind off success.

I think there's a conflict of interests when it comes to the Nintendo Wii.... us nintendo fans want to see nintendo succeed financially and are happy to see it expand the market. But does that mean that it's pleasing the gamer inside of us? that same internal conflict is happening at nintendo and obviously the non-gamer is winning since they're an untapped market which nintendo wants to (and its succeeding) reach. I'm all for nintendo but i cant be content with that. This is why the system is a bit underpowered because nintendo isn't focusing its resources on the NWR gamer. That's why it pisses me off 2 see people are all yippee-ki-yay about EVERYTHING nintendo does when we arent even the target audience, thus the myriads of problems like the wii codes (wtf?), it's graphic capabilities, online "emphasis.

With that being said.. i think that Nintendo should had compromised a bit for a more capable system. Developers shouldn't be blamed for crappy games just as much as nintendo shouldn't be blamed for emphasis on cost-efficiency because they're both businesses trying to profit and just like nintendo didn't feel the they needed to make the system HD.. developers won't want want to spend the same resources for a Wii title vs a PS3 or 360 title.

I thikn some of you are very confused as to what Nintendo's strategy is.
Remember: Nintendo wants us to change the way we play, not what we play as some of you are pointing out. We got Wii boxing vs Fight Night. They both have different way of playing and use the HARDWARE to their advantage, which is what Nintendo doesnt directly want to compete with MS and Sony against. With that being said, the game is still.... boxing. Its outlandish to think that Nintendo has given up on traditional gaming(I'm looking at YOU million seller NSMB)

It's Nintendo's choice to make it "traditional" or "innovative" but we need something new here. Like seriously, if Nintendo doesn't start now, the 15 yr olds of 2015 are going to go elsewhere for their fan fanboyism.

Capcom is known to have good franchises. At least we can hope they can create something that wont be quickly forgotten.

All half steps. None of them really likely to break the mold to establish names for themselves. Destined to be quality games relegated to the dusty shelves of history, remembered alongside the likes of Baiten Kaitos and P.N.03.

Now we're on the same page. That's exactly what i meant. We need Nintendo Game: 1, 2, 3 and Special Edition in the next 10 years that actually have a strong Million+ fanbase. And its not a coincidence those games sell systems too. I'm not saying Nintendo needs to step away from the "Blue Ocean" strategy, but it would be nice to take the manhours to produce Mario Party 14 into the production of a risky new game to capture the minds of old and new fans.

EXACTLY Pittboy. Please, I could care the games some of you enjoy...

but the fact is you can't sit there and act like Nintendo is coming up with new franchises. As bitter as you may be about the content of some games, they're essentially the new "Metroids", "Marios" or "Zeldas". At least these companies are trying. Of course it also isnt fair to Nintendo due to their shaky and renewed relationships with Third Parties but at least they should lead the way instead of constantly trying to modernize OUR franchises.

The perfect indication of all this is seen in the exitement of announcements of Wii-exclusive games. People on this forum and Nintendo fans all around are hyped about Sadness, Day of Disaster, and the Capcom game... and you know close to NOTHING about them but it's NEW and YOU WANT IT.

For the crowd who's first system was a Playstation or XBox just about everyone knows the Master Chief.  Much as I hate to say it people who don't know what MGS 4 or FF13 are, know the term "Halo".

Well as inadvertedly as it was you brought up a good point. Until Ian pointed it out, i never realize what he said: Nintendo needs Generation Now games. Us as nintendo fans hold on to the franchises but it's going to get to the point where it's going to be Mario vs. Pac-man. Nintendo is a business and gaming company which is why it baffles me as why it doesn't attempt at catering to multiple markets. I thought i was never goin to get tired of anime... but as i get older i care less for it. The way i could care less about mario.

We all root for Ninty but i believe it's true: we need sumthin new to universally hold on to just like people worship master chief, MGS, Gears of War, or watever it takes.

I think if done correctly a zelda rpg could be beautiful and 95% of u would buy n love it... stop lyin..
Nintendo in my opinion has not done enough with the zelda franchise n a rpg wouldnt b so bad... heck... if whoring out is that big of a deal why not use Gustave.. the first "link" from minish cap... i just would had liked it if its with the characters we know and love

Perhaps the desire comes from the lack of good exclusive IPs. Mario, zelda, metroid are all different types of games... but y do they have to be the only of their kind ((I.E. y is metroid nintendo's rpg?"))

Man.... JonLeung is on to sumthing. I think Nintendo has restrictions on what to do with characters because alot of different ideas that you guys are coming up with seem like they should have happened.
Eventhough "Nintendo Kart" might feel gimmicky, there is no doubt alot of people would buy it and it could bring perhaps a breath of fresh air to racing and fun to the franchise. Heck, ALOT of people feel Diddy Kong Racing is better and it might simply be off the strength of it being different.

Speaking of spin-offs... I've always wanted a traditional RPG Zelda... like an epic adventure where Link, Zelda and Ganon are in eventually in a group to fight some crazy evil. Someway somehow i see it working in my brain.

the problem is that the wii games look really bad... worse than RE4.. thats ming boggling.. i just paid $250 for this thing... a GC was at $99 and honestly its 2006 and the hardware is dirt cheap i doubt more than $75. with its "update" 250 right now is NOT cutting it. Perhpaps like some say it's only the first gen of Wii games... but 360 is only a year ahead and PS3 launched at the same time. We're paying for the R&D team's salary for the wiimote

Threadstarter has a point... the difference is a bit disturbing.. this topic has been done a thousand times but now that games are coming out it is NOT COOL to see them with exact Gamecube graphics

It's a bit difficult playing Gears of War and pickin COD up. Yes, things are slow at the beginning but not THIS slow. and if you take a peak at the schedule you'll notice no time soon a game might show us any different.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:IGN reviews
« on: November 16, 2006, 04:49:16 AM »
I think some of you guys are being too harsh on Matt w/out understanding his point of view. At times he can be annoying but don't think he's not learned in the field. As far as reviews go, we got to understand the crowd he's writing to. He's not writing to planetgamecube ninty fans but to the casual gamers who happen to be interested in Wii. He can't sit there and try to write to us nintendo fans who have that um, "extra patience" with games and then expect for average Joe to enjoy it. SPECIALLY as selective and picky as Nintendo System owners are(Re: third party games).

When you really think about it Wii is in a league of its own and probably will be its entire lifetime. So since it's the first of its kind, the Wii can only be judged against the Wii and perhaps people reviewing it are having trouble waging the pros and cons since they have nothing to compare it to. That's why everyone is starting off with odd reviews.

In fact I think people are being paranoid that the Wii is being compared graphically to the 360/PS3 but did you ever stop to think that the games are not impressive by their own merits and accomplishments. IMHO ExciteTruck is super boring to me.. 6.8 or 9.6 I could care less.

Billy analyzed the weaknesses in his editorial, so I won't expect the Wii be the end-all console. I won't be jumping the Nintendo boat anytime soon, but I'll be one those Wii60 or PSWii folk.

yea thats how i felt also... i believe after my 360 purchase i've become more patient with nintendo. so now whaterver they want to do in their quirky little world is ok as long as they release what is expected of them..

like it or not Ian makes valuable points.. he's simply noting visible problems in the nintendo camp which just rubs some the wrong way. just admit that nintendo was dry as hell when it came to makin new GOOD games.. only a small percentage of the millions who bought the cube fall into the nintendo fanboy category... the majority were gamers and by the proof of consoles bought it wasnt worthy enough. So i strongly believe that nintendo thought of a new way of gaming... THEN they thought of reasons to justify it... they created the remote and then started preachin the whole non-gamer crap or the buttons bein intimidatin... but of course they advertised it the other way around. unfortunately sum games require a classic controller and many buttons but its feared nintedo is discouraging this as much as possible

and i posted the developer question earlier because from a business aspect i dont understand why the system selling nintendo games are rare to find sequels for... mario gets whored but we get no mario 128... the most bought game for cube (smash bros.) comes out at the beginnin of the system's life and never drops a sequel... zelda got delayed like crazy... no pokemon rpg ((um duhh?)... no true starfox 64 sequel and the new I.P.'s were nonexisting... if miyamoto didnt create it... it didnt exist

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Grand Master Billy speaks on the Wii.
« on: September 19, 2006, 08:32:02 AM »
Yea Kairon basically sums it  up...  but i think this argument will go on for the Wii's lifetime. basically quantity is not equal quality and what falls into quality is up to each gamer in himself. So now that nintendo has basically divided it's resources to please the "non-gaming" crowd... it shouldnt be a surprise to see the core gamer b concerned over not getttin enough AAA titles for the wii. and by the way not everything released by nintendo is good. And unfortunately being a nintendo fan means relying on nintendo for the AAA titles due to crappy ports which will be even crappier now for reasons i wont mention due to sensitivity around here, and because we simply don't buy thrid party games enough to get exclusives.

My question is to whoever is: how many teams of developers does nintendo have.. cuz getting a "system-seller" per generation is really NOT COOL.
