Nintendo Gaming / RE:Is the GameCube Dead?
« on: May 05, 2005, 06:14:08 AM »
If you talk to the guys over at Gamestop or EB they will tell you that it is hard for them to keep used Gamecubes in stock right now.  Probably due to the fact that you can pick up a used one for $70 and the fact that people are getting pretty psyched for the new Zelda game.

My gripe with Nintendo started with the N64.  The system had some great games and started off very strong but the Playstation library of games was just flat out more appealing to me.  That carried over to the PS2 as well.  Also, Nintendo totally dropped the ball with online capabilities.  Online is becoming a big part of console gaming.  The Gamecube even has online capabilities but they never really pushed it.  SOCOM 1 and 2 sucked up about a year of gaming time from me.  I even wore out a PS2 playing those games (which isn't that hard to do anyway).

But the funny thing is that I still felt like something was missing.  I really missed playing games such as Metroid, Zelda, and Mario.  So I went ahead and dropped $100 on a used Gamecube, Metroid Prime, controller exention cable, and memory card.  Was it worth it?, YES!  I spend a little over 19 hours playing Metroid Prime and I still only got to 80% completion.  So then I picked up Wind Waker for $17 used and I haven't been able to put the controller down!  I guess after I finish Wind Waker, I'll pick up Mario Sunshine.  Then there are games like Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime 2 which I plan on picking up soon after.  I have to say that I am glad I finally picked up a Gamecube.

But I will say this, Nintendo better have something awesome up their sleeve for the next system because The X-Box 360 is looking to be an incredible system.  And the PSP is so much more better than the DS that you really can't compare the two.  Although from what I understand, the DS is not the next GameBoy.  So I guess the DS was just a pre-requisite to something better?  But Nintendo could capitalize because from what I have read, developers are getting very frustrated with the new "cell" technology that the Playstation is supposed to use.  The one good thing is that Nintendo should always do better than X-Box in Japan.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Legend of Zelda: 2005 Official Discussion

I have to agree, I was a little hesitant about ZeldaWW but I am sooo glad that I gave it a chance because it plays just as good as OoT and Majoras Mask.  I have been playing Zelda since the first one and I have to say that they get better each time.  I have to admit, I gave up on Nintendo after the 64 for quite some time.  But it finally got to a point that I missed games such as Metroid, Zelda, and Mario.  And $70 for a used Gamecube from EB games is a steal!  The Metroid Prime series alone is worth the system but I am actually suprised at how good ZeldaWW is.

*(SPOILERS AHEAD)*  Just in case you haven't played yet.

To me the difference in has a great significance in the story of the game.  You are not playing as Link and the character playing as Zelda is technically an ancestor to the original princess.  I look at difference in graphics as a way to somewhat make sure that you as the player knows that he or she is not playing as the actual Link.  Never once so far while playing this game did I think I was actually playing as Link.  But it still feels like Zelda.  But as everyone knows, the next Zelda game is building up to what could be one of the most beautiful games ever created.  But no Zelda fan should pass on ZWW.  If you are a true fan of the series, you should love ZWW just like all of the others.

To me though, Link To The Past was the greatest Zelda game of all.  OoT was incredible but I have actually played Link To The Past all the way through at least 5 times because I enjoy the gameplay so much.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube and S-Video

Can anyone tell me if they have experienced problems with Pelican's S-Video cables for the Gamecube?

When I plug them into the Gamecube, the picture actually gets much worse than the normal composite picture.  I have tried the cables on my 56" and 27" T.V.'s with the same results.  I know the cables are cheap but I have used other Pelican cables for my PS2 with no issues whatsoever.

I even went as far as to exchanging my Gamecube for another thinking that there is no way that two sets of cables could be defective.  But after hooking up my second Gamecube to the second set of Pelican S-Video cables, I get the same result.  I am even more p1ssed now because I traded in my black Gamecube which had component capabilities for a Platinum Gamecube with zero component capabilities.

I tried getting my money back from Gamestop but the moron who gave me the second set of cables didn't give me a second receipt and my original 7 days of the return policy was never renewed for the second set of cables.  I even sent an email to Pelican stating that their cables are crap and all they want to do is send me a third set which I am sure will take 8 weeks to arrive at my house.  And I will probably get the same result.

Can anyone tell me if they ran into the same problems with the Pelican S-Video cables?
