Nintendo Gaming / playing USA bought games in Ireland/UK

Hello forum members,

I am hoping that someone here will be able to help me with this query.

My son (lucky devil that he is) is just back home from a trip to LA.
Whilst there he bought 4 games for himself but unfortunately they will
not play on his Gamecube. He's only 10 yrs old so didn't realise they
would be in a different format.

Can anyone please suggest what he can do?
I'd be extremely grateful.
