Nintendo Gaming / RE: On Emulation on the Rev
« on: May 22, 2005, 02:57:30 PM »
I know some PC SNES emulators have some "antialiasing" options to smooth out the huge pixels due to the low resolution of SNES games, i.e. make it look more like the TVs that most people were using at the time (blurry RF/composite graphics). I think they should add that option to emulators on Rev, because now a lot of people have large TVs with good (S-Video/Component) inputs.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Revolution plays DVDs...?
« on: May 22, 2005, 02:50:29 PM »
"So, part of me is thinking Nintendo needs to stop being so cheap, and offer, at minimum, the ability to play dvds out of the box."

DVD player manufacturers pay something like $15-20 per unit in licensing fees to the DVD consortium (I think). You can put a lot of useful stuff in a console for $20. So while the 11 people who are planning on using their Rev for DVD playback would like that feature out of the box, most would prefer if Nintendo spent that on something more worthwhile.

Nintendo Gaming / Prince of Persia

Is it just me, or is PoP:SoT buggy as hell?

I'm currently trying to beat it for the second time. The first attempt ended in the Hall of Learning. After the fight, I walked into the sand cloud and saved the game. Then, every time I loaded that save point, Farah would fall into a pit with spikes half a second later, before I could do anything. "No, no, she didn't die.." GAME OVER. So I'm left with an unusable save point.

Oh well, no software is perfect, and I like the game, so I wouldn't really mind starting over. On my second time through, I make it past the hall of learning fine, and make it to the observatory. Again I save the game after the first fight, and I'm now at a point where I have to get on the platform, and Farah has to pull the lever to make it go up. So I do, the prince yells "NOW", and.. nothing happens. The cut scene starts (as evidenced by the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen), but the platform stays right where it is. So I got an unusable save point AGAIN.

Then there are a few other glitches as well, like collision detection deciding to stop working during a fight - my sword would just go through the sand creatures, and camera being unsure where it should go, and shaking like crazy as a result..

I really like a lot about the game, the graphics, the puzzles, the acrobatic tricks, the story, etc, but this kind of stuff really pisses me off. I take good care of my games and my system, the disc has no scratches, and my Cube has no trouble reading other discs. I guess I just saved at the wrong time (twice in 3 days..). I'll probably give it another try eventually, this time keeping 2 save points, and alternating between them when I save.

Anybody else had similar problems with this game? What about the sequel?
