So that explains why the plants that come out of the walls in MP look like the creatures in the missle silo in Half-life.  I swear, there is still stuff about MP that I am finding out about.  What a great game....

I've seen demos of people playing Quakeworld and it doesn't matter if you jump around.  People can hit other people in mid-air with rockets.  If anything, playing Quakeworld requires more skill and precision than Doom.  Everything after Quakeworld to me is watered down and n00b friendly.  The only thing that came close to Quakeworld for me was Goldeneye.  License to Kill in the basement or the complex was awesome and put the skill back into mulitplayer shooters for me.  Quake 3 or Halo is n00b garbage compared to Quakeworld if you ask me.

TalkBack / Metroid Prime 2 Poll at Nintendo.com

I want a longer and more challenging adventure.  That's the one thing that Metriod Prime had going against it in my opinion.  MP multiplayer wouldn't work IMHO, and I'm not really big on this whole GCN/GBA connectivity.  For a game like MP, I don't think they should try to fiddle with connectivity.  I definitely don't want it to go 2D again.

Now me and my friend were arguing if these pictures were real so I sent in a letter to IGN and asked them but so far they havent answered so I thought I would let you guys decide. This is a french site it looks like and me not being good at french I cant understand a word of it.

But the Screen Shots look like either a really weird looking koopa troopa in a kart or a bowser kid... ludwig von koopa... But from what I see this is looking pretty good. If anyone can translate the words for us we would be much obliged.

( www.puissance-nintendo.com ) is the main site.

Then click on [gamecube] under consoles on the left hand side of the page a little way down.

Then click on [preveiws gamecube] under the giant GAMECUBE word.

Then scroll down in [Catalogue Gamecube] and click on [Mario Kart NGC]

and then scroll down to the 3 screen shots and tell me what you think.

Sorry guys I would post a direct link but this would just end up getting locked for bandwidth theft.

Seen 'em...think they're fake.  Why are you posting old news dude?

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo lowers profit expectations... again

They cut it a whooping 18%, to 66 billion yen (about 550 million USD) down from the 80 billion yen they stated in November, 2002.

If Nintendo only sees a 66 billion yen profit, that will only be a little more then half of what they recorded last fiscal year (106 billion yen). They REALLY need to do something to fix this trend... fast.

(All you 'diehards' don't bother trying to jump on me. I'm just the messanger. Plus I'm not forcasting any kind of doom for Nintendo. Just expressing concern.)

No biggie, at least they are making healthy profits, unlike Microsoft.  Everyone in the industry has been lowering profit expectations.  It's a common trend.  Why focus on just Nintendo's lowered profit expectations?

Actually I feel the exact opposite way.  GE licence to kill pistols was very frantic, especially in the basement....ah the memories.  Anyway, I don't like the slow pace of Halo, which lends itself to defensive gameplay and camping.  I personally am an offensive player and I love running into rooms, guns blazing and taking the whole room out.  I was notorious for doing things like that in GE when we played licensce to kill.  To me, TS2 is all about gunplay and speed, especially when I play with one shot kills, whereas Halo is all about being defensive and letting people come to you.  I don't like that kind of gameplay.  I grew up with FPS games like Quakeworld and Duke Nukem 3D after all.

HALO is a great game, way better than golden eye IMO. I would love to know how many people here who say crap about HALO havent even played it.

God I hate fanboys.

I played Halo 4-player for a good hour.  GE 4-player is still better IMO.

Nintendo Gaming / Online Games
« on: April 03, 2003, 08:30:41 PM »
I don't care about online gameplay as much as I care about getting games with LAN connectivity.  I live on a school campus so Mario Kart LAN games would be AWESOME!!!  Besides, if we get games with LAN connectivity, we can just use gamespy for "online" games.  Xbox Live isn't profitable and I think Nintendo is smart to not invest money in such a risky and small aspect of the console industry.

Nintendo Gaming / So what's up with Capcom?
« on: April 03, 2003, 08:25:58 PM »
I'd hate to see Capcom lower support for the GCN.  I like having Capcom, although once I play all the Capcom 5 games, I'll decide if I care about Capcom support or not.  Don't get me wrong, the REs for GCN were great, but I need something new from Capcom.  P.N. 03 hasn't been getting rave reviews, and if the other Capcom 5 are mediocre games (like P.N. 03 is it seems), I won't really care if Capcom doesn't support the GCN.  I'm pumped about Killer 7 and RE4 though and if those games are as good as I think they will be, then I'll hate to see Capcom support start to fade.

Nintendo Gaming / Too Human Speculation
« on: April 03, 2003, 08:19:02 PM »
Here are a few things I'd like to see:

1)  Spider-like feet and hands upgrade:  This would allow you to crawl or walk up walls and on ceilings.  This could be used for stealth and to get to hard to reach places

2)  Mind enhancements:  You could buy different different CPUs that would connect to your brain.  The differnent CPUs could enhance your mental capabilities to do different stuff, like allow you to access and store data in picture or video form, allow you to connect to information mainframes, allow you to hack into computers to unlock doors in a building or obtain blue prints for a building so you know where you are going, allow you to control various aspects of your surroundings (change traffic lights, open or close doors, get money from ATMs, remote control vehicles) and of course, allow you to play mini-games in your head just for fun.....hehehe.   You could upgrade the CPU (faster processor and more memory) in your brain to perform these tasks faster or to do additional tasks (that I haven't thought of).

3)  GBA connectivity:  This wouldn't be required, but it would add to gameplay.  It'd be cool if a friend could play against you with the GBA.  I dunno, have mini-missions that you can only get with the GBA connectivity.  Your friend could control squads of robots or have control over various aspects of a building, like sentry guns and elevators and then try to stop you from getting to a certain room.  I'd have fun trying to devise strategies to kill my friend.  This would be hard to balance, but what the heck, this is all speculation anyways.

Yeah....that's enough trying to think creatively for one night.

Let me be a little more clear.

There were indeed parts of the game where the graphics did some cool things, the water on the visor being one of them.
I just didnt find the overall look of the game very appealing. Everything had a plasticy fake look about it to me, I just didnt find anything that jumped out at me and made me say wow. A good example is on the 1st level when you are running/rolling back to the ship. The critters that bunch together near the tunnels looks like blobs of sawdust as you approach. I found there to be way to many instances where things just looked poor to me. Maybe I expected to much, either way I just didnt like it. I much prefer the pre rendered graphics of RE.

I've been playing video and computer games for a long time, and I was very impressed with MP's graphics.  I am not trying to brag about how I've been playing video and PC games for a long time, I am just saying that I am good at noticing if a game has good graphics.  As a package deal, the geometry, attention to detal, and art direction in MP is second to none on any console game if you ask me.  There are so many polygons and there is so much attention to detail that it blows my mind everytime I play MP.  And I don't buy that fake plasticy look thing you said.  Did you like the grapchis in Halo?  Becuase I say Halo has more of a fake plasticy look than MP but that's just my opinion.  All video games have a fake plasticy look I think.  Name me a video game that doesn't.

I think the emotion and feeling in Metriod Prime is in the enviorments you see.  Metroid Prime has emotion that is much more subtle.  You have to find emotion in your surroundings.  For example, the Chozo Ruins give me a feeling of abandon, but I find beauty in the abandon.  In the Magmoor caverns I get a busy feeling.  There are lots of monsters in this area, lava is flowing everywhere, and there is lots of machinery that is doing stuff.  In the Phendra Drifts I get a feeling of peace and sereness, excpet when I am blowing the f**k out of icey monsters of course.  I guess I could go on, but I think you get the idea.  Thats my 2 cents.

I definitely think the difficulty level should be bumped up in Metroid Prime 2.  I mean, the first one wasn't super hard because its a new genre and people have to get used to the controls and what not, but I think the next one needs to be hard.  And about the 2003 line up, let me say that I am overwhelmed and I am almost afraid that I won't get all the good games.....hehe.  Its gonna be hard for me to stay on top of things, because my life outside of videogames is pretty busy.  Hopefully I'll find time to play all these great games coming out

So following that logic a little further, maybe the next Super Mario game will be like SMB 3.  That would be awesome

Melee, Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil at a much greater rate. I am hoping Zelda: the Wind Waker will be that game that astounds me but so far I am very happy with both the quality and quantity of top-notch titles released.

Yes I am happy.  All I ask from Nintendo is that at least one of the games released on the GCN every year completely blows my socks off and Metroid Prime completely blew my socks off.  I think WW is gonna do this to me this year .

Miyamoto: ' as they advance with finally Fantasy XII ?'
Matsuno: ' co-operation with Nintendo was good. Or haven't I might say that now (laughs)?'
Reporter: ' isn't Fantasy XII final for PlayStation2?'
Miyamoto: (laughs)
Matsuno: ' if the time is ripe, I it will say.'
