Nintendo Gaming / RE: A bold idea for the N5
« on: April 29, 2004, 12:07:04 PM »
Yeah I agree, thats what I was getting at for the most part.  Right now all you hear is XB2 and PS3.  Half the people dont even know Nintendo has another console comming out(again) lol.  Still though, they need to get that rear in gear, soon.

LOL yeah, M E G A T O N 2!!!  But yeah I agree with ur last paragrapn Ian, if they dont do something fast in the next 2 YEARS then I dont see N5 nor N6 doing well, and if they dont do well then I honestly dont even see a N7.  Not spelling doom and gloom for the big N but its reality and its obvious that they dont have 'too' much time left to get back at #1.  Anything else will stunt(like it is now) the 'growth' of the entire company cause all theyre about is games .

Unfortunately mouse, thats how most people think.  Im not tryin to offend anyone but IMO thats how most people think.  The population in general is dumb.  Therefore peer pressure is high, all that 'she said', 'he said' stuff.  This includes the cool factor, hype, etc.  You wonder why Sony is where they are today lol.  Just like Windows and Mac.  Things in 'general' only get 'worse'  crappy windows sells more than the much better mac/linux/unix and the same is for the games industry, Sony is the 'Microsoft' for the most part.

Im not saying its all over for the Big N but, unless they really 'do something' wether its new marketing, buy up Square, w/e, or the industry crashes, IMO they will have missed their chance at being #1.  And it will only get smaller, to a point, hence Mac's 10%-12% market of PCs.  Dont get this mixed up with "Nintendood is D00mEd' or anything, Im just saying they got a shot and if they miss, chances are theyre gonna stay where they are or even less.

Rich, they costs alot NOW, but probably in the next 2 yrs the prices will go down.  And with Panasonic as a partner, who supports the blu ray standard, can give Nintendo and even  more of a 'discount' on production etc.  Thats IF theyre still partnered with Panasnoic, and IF theyre gonna use blue ray.  Time will tell .

Exactly, people whine and moan about HD size.  ONLY argument I see is what the general dumb consumer sees:" Ooo lookie, a bigger HD than that one, I can store more stuff on there so ill get this console instead".  Only problem is, like KDR said, theres nothing to freaking fill up 50-80GB with.  Wont be games cause then theyre would be piracy out the wazoo.  Game saves arent going to cut it, I dont care how big the damn game is.  The biggest games these days are no bigger than approx. 3.2GB at MAX, updates/patches/extras/saves wont even take up anymore than 2-3 GB at best.  And that would be for a huge ass(FF23 lol) game.  If anything, 15GB would be for the choice of saving ur games there, extras, downloadble demos etc, stuff like that.=pleanty of space

Yeah I agree on that too.  If theyre smart, IMO, theyd stay with Panasonic and do Blue Ray.  That way, its cheaper for them since they can use Panasonics 'discount' lol.  Not to mention 3rd parties wont have anything to bitch about, and they can impose whatever copy protection ideas they want.

Yo Black, actaully in the article it does state blue-laser disk technology in part of the supposed specs, so Ian Sane can read.  Just had to point that out bub.

Besides they 'could' use their own format but who knows.  As long as Developers have enough room they'll be fine, if theyre smart they'll 'create' their own format with just as much storage, maybe some creative/good encription techniques etc(Basically Blue-Ray/HD DVD with copy protection etc.).  And I think the HD, if it will be included, will be upped to atleast 30GB or more.  But this only gives us a good idea, if not true, if it is true Id bet it will go under a few revisions.  Time for E3.

Honestly, Im sort of a 'techie' myself, but theyre pretty close in performance vs ease of development. I think they'll go with the #2 Specs.

Why?:

-Duel-Processors would match what Iwata-san's been yapping about in regards to the DS as a "hint to the next generation of hardware".

-Yes the duel-cpu set up would be more difficult for developers. But it would still be more simple than what MS and Sony are doing. Plus, the minds behind the GC's architecture could come up with some engineous dev-kits to help developers alot with the duel-setup.

-#2 Specs may have slightly less RAM than #1, but it MORE than makes up for it, being GDDR3 compared to (slow)DDR.

-Heat disipation would be close(Cpus/Gpus), but being an ATi 9800 owner I know a 600mhz card would put off alot more than a 500mhz card(they run very warm already today). Not to mention the added transistors and the many possible uses they could be for, as pointed out in the article. But the heat would be less as the new card would be manufactured at a much smaller die size than toaday's Radeon 300/350 line, so its moot to argue this currently.

-In favor of #2 Specs: Price is close, but I think the price difference between the Duel-1.8Ghz G5's vs the 2.7Ghz would be more than the difference between 512MB DDR vs 256MB DDR & 128MB GDDR3.

We all have seen how important bandwidth and RAM speed are with the GC vs the XB. Not to mention Memory and bandwidth will do more for your system than a faster processor would(i.e. when upgrading). All in all, I think that if they can develop the dev-kits to simplify programming with duel-cpus to optimize performance, thus utilizing #2 Specs' memory and bandwidth advantage over #1 Specs, then they will go with #2 Specs or something close.

Just wanted to add one more thing to this. If uve played ED then you know that triads are all throught the game. The spell system also revolves around 3 alignments. And the most one, the first lil puzzle in the game is??? Anyone remember? You have to set the clock to 3:33. Its also when alex is awoken, right at 3:33. Dont beleive me, start the game urself .

The game was also subtitled "The 13 Chosen souls" in Japan, 12 characters and the player makes 13 .

Hmmm funny, I just had deja-vu.  Add that to what I think and I think this will turn out to be alright, perhaps just as Bill is leading on to say .

Just another slash for the blind-crying NFanboys.  He says announcement/suprise.  Its most likely Pilotwings 3 info for N5.  I dont see any reason for them to go and develop for other companies simply cause theyre doin nextgen stuff and have been rumored for a long time to be doing PW3.  Sure theres the possibility they could dev. for Sony and/or MS but I dont think thats likely at all.  I wouldnt be suprised if they have a hand in N5 hardware which they would only rake in more money from HW sales much like they do with GC.  Not to mention Im sure Ninty has been giving them a lil something $ on the side.  Besides wether or not IGN 'confirmed' doesnt mean the other 95% of gamers know anything.  Most ppl think its a rumor, most ppl dont read online, most ppl dont know.  So if he does announce it give info then Magazines will quote/paraphrase him and post it as fact etc.

Well they may be lying(obviously) but thats nothing new, any half-brained person should know that.  Companies keep pleanty of things on the down-low, esp business wise.  Yeah true they had little marketing push on either game(MGSTT had decent amount in Japan and it still sold like ass) but MGSTT shouldnt have sold as horribly as it has(Japanese, and probly wont be too much better here).  On the flip side It took this company FOUR yrs to produce TWO whole games, Approx 2-3 yrs as a 2nd Party. <--- Before you wanna say Im wrong think about that first for a min.  They have approx. 60 staff compared to Rares 200+ and they both of their output ratio is close(bad).  Plus this is business here ppl, its all about the bottom line stop whinning.

Not to mention the huge majority of Nintendo fans online and how they grow more stupid day-by-day.  Example: Windwaker "Oh nooo look at his face !@&#*" now, most ppl love it and its already sold 3mill on-par with TOoT.  MP "This visor thing is weird, wtf is a FPA???" now, its sold pleanty of its share and regarded as one of the gen. most orginal games.  Rare " OMFG they sold them WTF %^^*%^)*"  then we found out why.

I could go on but Im tired.  Point is you guys should try and be decent which means use your freaking 'critical thinking' if you have any.  Could this be more money to buy some other, more prominent developer??? or a tech. partner for N5/GCNext  and the future???  Bottom line, quit with all the whinning and crying "TIS D00MEDED" crap and wait till E3 atleast to see whats up.  But I see 2 more forum topics regarding this issue and the shear stupid-ness.  Atleast the Nintendojo Forums has come to the conclusion(for the most part) that this money can be towards something more benifitial to Ninty.  N-sider Forums Never 'freaked out'.

And for the last time ppl get it straight, SK WAS the ONLY 2nd party dev.  Goodness, Retro is 100% in-house 1st party dev.   Plus we make up the very SMALL portion of N-fans cause we're online, ONLINE.  How many ppl do u think really know who SK is hmmm? next to ziltch.  So dont go crying that this is gonna have some Never Happening(lol) effect.

Exactly.  As for most of the ppl here, I can see where u all are comming from.  But as Jonny said we dont know anything.  I just love it when ppl jump to conlusions everytime somthing 'bad' happens and yall dont know jack about the situation.  If this is money for oh lets say to help aquire other developers/technologies then depending on what those are Id be all for it.  I already see ppl in this post adding to the numerous "Nintendo is doomed now....ummm....again" ideas.  People can atleast wait till some kind of info is available b4 starting to bable.  And FYI, no Im not a noob here, I just never post=Probly been here longer than most  ;P.
