General Chat / Anybody else going to GenCon on Friday?
« on: August 18, 2004, 04:05:51 PM »
I'll be there, wandering around the exhibit hall shopping for anime and music and such. You'll know me by my Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey smiley-face vest and Excel Saga t-shirt. Be sure to say hello if you see me. It's a mighty, mighty show that I would recommend to any gamers in the Indianapolis area.

I would be lead designer, graphic artist, and sound technician. My old roomate is head programmer, and another pal of mine will be assisting with 2D art. We have no budget, essentially, other than what we've already spent on our equipment, so we're not looking to hire anyone yet. I'm reasonably confident in my abilities to spiff everything up to fool just about anyone into thinking we had a full team and modest budget, though. Some of the video clips I've made just on my own equipment have looked and sounded quite professional, without any outside help or equipment.

That said, the comic should help generate some funding, and also get people interested in our games.

Here's a teaser image for my upcoming online comic: The Adventures of Coarse Limely. My pals and I are going to try starting up our own video game company, and we'll use this basic storyline for our first RPG of the same name. I'm thinking of posting the entire storyline online and just putting the best scenes interspersed in the text, actually. I think that'll be best for getting every single comedic moment in.

I'm still waiting for the copyright to go through for the story, but I think I should be able to start posting it soon. Hope you enjoy it!

"He bravely ran away, away!"

Given the current theology in the Zelda games, it is a bit odd that Link carried a Crucifix-bearing shield in the first title, but that's just hind-sight now.

Hmm...brainwashed villain, is my guess. Of course, she wouldn't be leading a double life in that case.

Good ruck, as the Japanese say. The ocarinas at the Renn Faire cost about $30, I think. It'd probably cost about $2 to ship, too.

A vendor at the Rennaissance Faire I sometimes work at made it. I'll be visiting in a week or two. Want me to see if he has any and pick one up for you?

No. Mine has a hole layout that's more like the actual one in the game:

I like the band around the mouthpiece on that one, though Jale!

Next time I switch my computer on, I'll see if I can scan some images of it (the scanner needs to be turned on before the computer, for some reason). Don't know if the scanner will work with such a lumpy object or not, but I've got a Polaroid camera, too, so I'll try that if it doesn't.

Zelda herself never kissed Link in the show, but her doppleganger (in the episode with the same name) did. Several times, at that. Spoiler Alert! It's generally assumed that Zelda kisses Link at the end of Zelda II, though.

That's pretty much what I meant, Professional. Since Link is teenaged and doesn't have the Master Sword, one can assume that he aged naturally this time around.

No, he's talking about the actual ocarina, not the sword.

From the little footage we have, it looks like the combat will be a lot more dynamic than even in Wind Waker. Link's attacks were fast and furious in that short clip, and hopefully there will be a good variety of attack options aside from the usual various weaponry.

As far as the storyline goes, it looks like we won't see Young Link at all in this installment. Link carries a plain sword during the trailer, so it would appear that he doesn't need the Master Sword in order to propel himself into the future again. I'm sure the Master Sword will be in the game, but you won't have it right away. Perhaps this game will even tell of when, why, and by whom the Master Sword was forged in the first place. Also, it seems like the evildoers are getting their acts together and forming a grand army, rather than just waiting around in dungeons for our brave hero.

Ah. Finally the video clip is done.

Sorry it's so big. I don't know why the compression didn't work better.
Enjoy!

I'm using it. I just can't swing it around with wild abandon (due to the size of my apartment) like I can in Wyoming. There are a couple of techniques which don't intercept any of my furnature, but I still have to be careful, and the footwork is pretty limited as well.

Almost done with that video clip!

Try clearing your cookies and copying and pasting it again. People had trouble with it last time, too.

I put the text in "Wyoming1.jpg," but I don't think it includes enough of the gorgeous landscape to be interesting. The video will be classic, though, I promise!

Yeah, well I was looking for a good angle with that pose to send into Nintendo themselves. I don't think any of the pictures really look good enough to use for a magazine ad or anything, unfortunately.

Just got back from my trip to the great outdoors of Wyoming, and I've got some cool pictures of the landscape. I'm still working on the video clip (I'm editing some CG into a scene of myself waving the sword around), but enjoy the scenic woods of the Powder River area of Wyoming, complete with Master Sword-wielding maniac: Yours Truly!

I'll post a link to the video clip as soon as I'm done with it. It'll be cool, I promise.

There are 2 DVDs available with a total of 5 Zelda episodes between them. Check out Amazon.com for "The Legend of Zelda: Ganon's Evil Tower (3 episodes)" and "Mario's Greatest Movie Moments (contains 2 Zelda episodes)."

Nintendo Gaming / Soul Calibur II: Arrow juggling with Link...
« on: May 04, 2004, 04:30:26 PM »
I've heard tale of a juggling trick to use with Link that allows you to slash your oppenent into the air, and then proceed to shoot not 1, not 2, not 3, but FOUR arrows into them in mid-air. If anyone finds a video file of someone actually doing this, let me know. I can start it with 1 arrow, if it's even possible, but I want to see it done.

That's something I'd expect of the Evil Warlord Yamauchi. I think he's still running the show from behind a curtain somewhere. Way to go, Nintendo! The most bastardly approach to a problem I've seen in awhile.

My sword is around 14 pounds. It already feels a lot lighter than when I first received it. I managed to find a swing that doesn't intercept any of my furnature and I've been training with it every day.

I like the replicas of Narsil that are circulating, myself. My favorite is the Shards of Narsil one, though, where it's still in its shattered state. Not very useful, but a great-looking display piece.

The TriForce was engraved into the metal after the blade was finished.

So long as the item isn't being mass-produced and sold on ebay or anything like that, legality really isn't an issue. It shouldn't be a problem to have your replicas made.

As for the dimensions, I extrapolated them from the games within a certain margin for error and scaled them to my own height vs. Link's (I'm a bit taller).
