Nintendo Gaming / RE: If You Had Control Of Nintendo From Today!
« on: January 15, 2004, 07:15:51 PM »
k here are some ideas

-how about the N5 have classic games preloaded on the HDD?
-i like the idea of charging wavebirds(be like the cell phone concept)
-how extending guitar smasher's ideas of more classic games on an online service, how about a way you could buy a dock where games are DLed to blank disks(stable state media, which ever they choose to use) Course, the problem with this of course is piracy, i know i know
-The N5 needs to be sleek and stylish, i would with more of a stackable, THIN design, rather than small and boxy
-we need added peripherals, im sorry but the "it's a game machine isn't going to work anymore as these things get cheaper, multifuntion is key, it just makes the average gamers purchase more justified
- i'd go back to Ns root colors
- im not completely enjoying the kidney buttons on the controllers as of now, i've grown to like em, but not completely
- DPAD, this IMHO was not a good year for the D pad, not just for N but for them in general, i haven't really liked sony's d pads, the broken idea makes have to look down all the time, even after all this time, and the D pad on the cube yes of course - to small.  i think that xbox got it right more than the other two, making eight way standard.  I also like the softer buttons on the PS2's controllers.

for the new GB

- needs true 3d gaming capability - not a beefed up FX chip design
- needs to have to versions
 - they could work with sharp (and are they working with panasonic, not sure) on an all emcompassing on the go device that uses powerful lithium batteries and as a second option, plug into the cigerette lighter(to help with kids, an extra long one could be purchased)
- make the headphone jack standard
more on the GB heavy version
 - stay with sp design, keeps it more young adult savvy
 - maybe make it widescreen(black bars could be used for games that can't support it), but still skinny enought to fit in the front pocket
- comeone, we need at least six buttons and then a start select for a total of eight)
- it keep with a eight way dpad, or two have like a touchpad from the laptops
- some how, maybe have dvd capabilities, and play cds(i think the anti shock is good enough now - i have one where i can litterally jump up and down and stomp the floor and NO SKIPPING) and a radio
- and a slot for the old GB games, giving it the extra edge it would need.
- light version - just games

on the corporate level

- more adult advertising, more teenage girls and boys(and on the girl part, im not talking about raunchy teen half porn, but girl gamers with the guy gamers or something of the sort)
- advertising needs to be fierce
- more money on design and events that young adults show up at, not these giant speggetti bowls(this is a kids fantasy, well the weird kids one)
- online pushed
- RIGHT NOW is the time to bow down to 3rd party developers requests

and on another note, i would run the company into the ground cuz just like the rest of us, i don't really know how gaming corp.s end up with a profit and how it all works lol

TalkBack / RE:Iwata Comments on Nintendo Next Generation
« on: January 15, 2004, 06:39:55 PM »
i a way, i agree with Iwata...  Think about, simple always seems to be a selling point now.  He is also quoted as saying that the Japanese market is shrinking in terms of gaming and US growth was much smaller than predicted.  Games used to have simple goals and all about the fun, thats why FPSs are so popular IMHO.  I don't know about you, but im tired of collected 50 of this, and 70 of that, and oh yeah: now i need to take pictures of fairies WTF?  We need something simple yet entertaining, altho i think the N is just building hype for itself, i hope this opens up new gameplay...

as for a completely downloadable game thing, think about the Sega Channel(i know this more of a rental thing than anything) but it wasn't very popular.  And we have the fastest residential cable modem service available in our area and it's very fast, but i still would rather drive to the store and pick my copy of game x and play it when i got home - rather than waiting for about 3 gig to download(which i'll have to pay for anyway, it cost about 49 cents to make a DVD, which why they were so cheap when they want them to hit mainstream) which will probably be the average size of the good games when they come out - or more.  You got this big think about adding loads of sound tracks, graphics getting larger, ect...  (and broadband isnt' as popular as one might think)

Personally, i love all of guitarsmashers ideas.  He/She presented all them very well and yes i actually read all of your ideas .  Seriosly i like your online concept and would definently pay maybe 15 dollars.  Demos, and playing online, but the most appealing would be downloading the classics(thats really the only reason i got my GBA in the first place).  In fact if that service got popular i would release a retro SNES controller so i play them, BUT i wouldn't make it so flat, more or less same layout same buttons, but more ERGONOMICALLY CONFORTABLE.  And the GBA future should play movies, but i think there ought to be a "light version" that just plays games.  And MORE ADVERTISING.  Like i said somewhere else, i don't know where that 20 million in adv. is being spent cuz 2 things: i know it's good to play together and i would like live in my world and play in theirs, but other than a few magazine ads i really don't know WHO I AM?  I think more teens and girls in their ads might help lose their "kiddie image" theyv'e been dealt, but again as i have said before thats really not their fault.  oh well enough from me.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: N5 Nintendo's trojan horse for LAN gaming
« on: January 10, 2004, 06:20:50 PM »
i think it wouldn't be such a bad idea to make LAN gaming idea into a separate add on package.  You know, set up in a box for two players, and then you could just sell add ons at a smaller price.  People like LAN parties, think about, those LAN shops could be the biggest investors.  Rather than having to go through the trouble of setting up hubs and switchers and such, they could just buy the cheaper Nintendo hardware.  The N5 could just make it that more simpler.  As for multimedia, I think some extra options than "it's a gaming machine, nothing more" mentallity isn't good.  I tell you why: I've seen many places where this doesn't work.  Parents are one thing: little timmy likes movies and games, ok, you could A) back when the cube was still over 100 dollars) buy a game system that is just coming out and buy him that cheap 60 dollar DVD player or buy one that does both.  B) in organizations that provide them for kids(i.e. hospitals) for something to do.  It nice to have that extra function so they can have the latest movies and don't have to invest in the extra systems as well.  I think many people are tired of memory cards, although honestly with a much gaming i do, i haven't filled up my card 251(i delete the games im not interested in anymore on a reg. basis).  On another topic in this fast forward here.  Stackablity i think is a must for the cube, people who buy systems now reguarly link them into their home theatre systems and the cube honestly just doesn't cut it here.  Top loading works for boom boxes cuz your on the go, but game systems sit in entertainment systems, just like how i think it's a bit of a clumbsy design by sony to put the power button on the back, thats just annoying when it's in a entern. system.  i think that Nintendo option tho, will either A) go software only and take advantage of PS's and Box's new capabilities and maybe make the ultimate portable gaming devices.  B) Make a game only system the pushes the limits of what gaming has to offer, make online gaming a super easy setup.  ( this taint' easy when you don't already have a network setup, lets see you have to get a router and a network adapter(for the PS)  and wireless oh boy)  and make the system super cheap.  Gaming next gen just isn't gonna be the same as what were all used to, Sony and Microsoft are just going to make sure of that.   Just take a look at the multimedia extender kit for the Xbox.  Which is sad b/c gaming has always been about getting deals and systems cheap and not having to invest in getting the video cards and sound cards for the computer b/c the software was optimized for the hardware, oh well.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: How would you sell the N5?
« on: January 08, 2004, 11:18:29 AM »
k, more on my design idea...  i think a white gloish apple design about an inch to an inch and half high.  about a foot and half to two feet wide.  and also about six inches deep.  I would have titanium bands that go all the way around the ends.  (Have some imagination here).  The rest would be done in that silky smooth clear lining on top of the white.  On the center on the top would simply have a lower case n in a circle with a five a bit smaller than the n in subscript to it.(jn light grey)  Then the slot-loading drive would go on the front.  This would look good on a coffee table and around your other electronics.  If white wasn't your taste the white could easily be changed to black.  So not only would it look sharp, but also stackable.  Wireless controllers at launch would be a must...

thats not such a bad idea - the upgrade thing.  You keep your user base that already has your system which selling like crazy cuz of your price break - it'll never happen but not a bad idea...

alright, with all this talk with Apple...  I would think of something along the lines of platnum(i know thats not spelled rt.).  The shape of a rectangle, about an inch high and about a 12"x6".  The the drive slot would be on the side and would be like the car radio ones - slot loading i believe it's called.  It would have to some multifuntionality though - thats where apple and IBM comes in.

Nintendo Gaming / gamecube find its niche...

this is nice for cubers, maybe we'll start to see more real estate given to the cube in our local video rental places.  i know in mine it's depressing to see how small the cube's selection is...

i doubt it's a HDD.  I mean this supposed to be something new.  I know this industry is based on hype and all but the Xbox has one and the PS2 is due with a HUGE one coming out next year.  Nintendo said they feared competition finding out - seems if it were a HDD you'd want the public to find out as to keep up with the recent momentum of the GCN

Nintendo Gaming / RE: N5 Launch Games List!

IMHO, i think that an old school mario with really hot graphics would really bring out the nastalgia(sp?) in old school gamers. Do it in the style of Viewtiful Joe. A mix of 3-d and 2-d, but please, i don't mean Paper Mario. I don't know why turn based fighting got big and I didn't like that. The quick reflexes like Mario Bros one or three comes to mind.

Nintendo Gaming / What design do you think N5 should have?
« on: December 01, 2003, 04:04:25 PM »
Should they stick with black, or keep on with the colors thing?  Personally I think purple is killing it.  What should the shape be?  What kind of features?

NES 5, as I seen some people starting calling it, (which i like) needs killer software.  They need online play.  They need to get the ball rolling with someone like EA.  Midway, somebody.  They need mario and the bunch, but they need some hot 2nd and 3rd party titles as well.  And many more exclusive hits.  And whatever they do, they cannot go out too early like SEGA - everyone is way to hyped up about their new "cell technology".  It'll be a waiting game if they go out too early.  Those are just my thoughts.
