To think that you could smoothly ride down a mountain 3X as tall as Mt. Everest at 40 - 60 MPH on any console just blows my mind. Kudos to a job very well done to EA Big.

It's not. It's 21,387 feet tall, judging by the flag at the top of Peak 3. Everest is just a bit over 30,000.

Honestly, I'm ever so slightly disappointed over the level design of SSX 3 as opposed to SSX Tricky. SSX Tricky's courses, oddly enough, seem to be (after playing both last week) on a grander scale then SSX 3's. While, graphically, the game is outstanding, I never have seen a moment that takes my breath away at how realized the world design is.

Merqury City from SSX Tricky seems exactly as if the SSX circuit designers took a US city and fit shortcuts and the track around it. SSX 3's Metro City, to compare, has no solid design philosophy behind it, and seems more like EA made it up as they went along. Jumping through the city park and over the suspension bridge in Merqury really empthasizes my point-everything is very natural and smooth, and shortcuts make sense. SSX 3, just twists, turns around buildings, and some jumps over arbitrary lumps of snow.

I love the game, don't get me wrong, just I don't believe it hits the note of absolute perfection Grey Ninja thinks it deserves.

I think it would be more of a cumulative effect. It would be more attractive for minor third parties to bother to release a PS2 and/or Xbox title with the GC as well. The more who do it, the more attractive it is for Rockstar, Capcom, and Sega to support the GC thanks to a larger userbase because of those titles.

I wouldn't expect an immediate effect, though.

I've got some complaints.

1. Draw distance
-Yes, draw distance. I don't care what Planet Gamecube says, blurry 2-D textures that substitute as islands are NOT impressive. The other islands fade out of texturing WAY too fast.

2. Dungeons
-Whoever said the Forbidden Fortress is a dungeon is glaringly blind. There are 5 dungeons. That's it. Dragon Roost Island, Forest Haven, Tower of the Gods, Earth Temple, Wind Temple.

DRI and TotG are the only comparable ones, design wise, to Majora's Mask and OoT. Does anyone have an idea how irratating it is that there are only 2 dungeons AFTER the 'big revelation' of Hyrule? Ocarina had 5. Nintendo released an inferior product. I'm amazed this is their headlining product.

Unfinished-a few more soon.

Got a few words mixed up there, didn't I?

Regardless, excluding a last minute snap from Sony or MS, the continued lack of RPGs on GameCube means SoA 2 for Cube is in a position similar to Sonic Adventure 3-why bother releasing an update of a previous title for the platform unless they were confident it would sell?

That's about all I can think of, your list was pretty good.

But I would just like to point out that no system for the sequel has been announced yet. For all we know it could be coming only to the PS2 (oh please god no). So don't get your hopes up.

Yes, it has, for the GameCube.

Now that it's official that SoA 2 will come out, what do some of you people that've played the game think about it? I have a few ideas and improvements that have come to mind...(I love the game, by the way. Just saying.)

1) Fewer battles.
-This seems to be how Overworks tacked on extra gaming time. By making a relatively small overworld (admit it, there's a very small land %) and making random battles extremely common, OW stretched out the gameplay length. They didn't fix it for SOAL, either.

2) More interesting sky.
-A combination of three factors makes me want to yell out everytime I try and navigate Arcadia now.

a) Lack of land mass. The only actual continents are Valua and Nasr, and they're both puny. Ixa'taka is debatable, but Yafatuma is pathetic.

b) Upper Sky and Lower Sky. Simply, there's not much to do.  The 'mountain ranges' on the continents should have at least stretched to midway in Upper Sky, instead of buried in Middle. That way, a new plot device is introduced-high altitude mountain villages, but only access through elevators powered by.....the Moon Stones! Or something. For a while, anyway.

c) Vanishing sky rifts. Now there are no landmarks when I wander around, it's vast...giant....sea....of nothingness....NOTHINGNESS!!!! Excuse me. I tend to get lost, and have to consult the map alot. Ties back in to letter a, mountain ranges that are unable to be passed over in the beginning would serve a more logical purpose (and serve as navigation guides) then Sky Rifts.

3) A horizon.
-Seriously. It's creepy, seeing a blue/black nothingness where by all means, a Sun and stars should be setting/rising. Also invest in 'nighttime'. No, not just a localized anomaly over Valua. Weather effects also, me thinks. Rain, storms, and big, round, fluffy, pillowy (3-D!) clouds.

4) Exploration of Continents
-Translation: More villages. The Great Valuan Empire consists of its capital. Ixa'taka consists of Horteka. Yafatoma consists of...well...Yafatoma. Nasr is encouraging, with THREE individual towns.

5) A more reasonable Magic system.
-The ONLY magic I've ever used is Healing Magic, Curia, and Sylenis. Everything else is moot, since magically charged SP attacks kick SO much ass.

6) Something with the Black Moon Stone
-You remember the Dark Rift, no? The Black Moon Stone at its core powered the whole thing, and the Discovery entry ominously notes that a Black Moon may have at one time existed.

7) A thought sparked by Esperanza.
-Say you come across a town, need to defend it, and invest in heavy weaponry to defend it from a maurading Black Pirate fleet. It would play out similar to ship battles, except you remove the individual characters and replace them with guns located around town. Build up enough SP and fire the Moon Cannon from the....um....Lighthouse, or something. To throw an idea out there.

What does everyone else think? What *needs* to be done for a sucessful sequel?

New thought-

Conditional hints.

Instead of a random 'climatological survey' spontaneously directing you to the Ice Beam, you head to the Gunship if the Well of Ways to Go runs dry. Options would pop up, as follows:

1) Geological Survey
-Geothermal
-Geoseismic
2) Atmospheric Survey
-Climatalogical
-Chemical waste (useful for detecting buildings like Phazon Mines, the Ore Processing room)
3) Electromagnetic Survey
-Communications
-Radiation

And so forth. It would add a touch of realism. For instance, if you wanted to detect Omega Pirate or Thardus (or any MASSIVE HONKING BOSS™), you'd go for Geoseismic or Radiation, since they give that off in droves. To locate someplace like the Phendrana Labs, you'd check Communications or Chemical Waste.

Again, taken to the extreme, I'd like a communicatory link-up with the ship computer, so if I'm stuck somewhere I could 'dial up'. Of course, in subterranean levels this hookup would be inoperative. This stems from my intense desire to actually have someone say something in Metroid Prime. I swear. It's creepy. She doesn't even say "Holy mother of...." when Metroid Prime drops from the ceiling and unfurls in the Phazon Infusion Chamber.

Offshoot Theory-

The closer you get to the Gunship, the more precise the hookup and survey will be. At some point you'll need to plant a transmitter to scan accurately in farther regions.

What I would improve in the next Metroid game. Not all of them are important.

-----HELMET-----

1. Rain- In MP, it hits the screen straight, like the visor wasn't there. However, it should wrap around the viewscreen more, and leave streak effects.

2. Cracks- The 'Game Over' screen gave me this idea. What if, so to say, at 10% health left, cracks started appearing around the edges of your visor? After being hit by x infinity fireballs, *surely* some wear and tear must take place. At 5% health left, cracks start splintering across the main portion of the screen. Should you get to a Save Station, it would 'heal' most of the smaller cracks. (Those lasers gotta do *something*) To get rid of the larger ones, a return to the Gunship would be in order to replace the visor fully.

Should this be carried to the extreme, there would be different levels of cracks. The smaller ones would be on top and easily healed by the Save Stations, while larger ones would reach down farther, and prehaps even split off a piece of visor. If a visor peice was chipped off and Samus went underwater, the water would pour in and give her a time limit as to how long she could stay under. Of course, the Gravity Suit would never crack.

Again, carried to the extreme.

3. 'Condensation'- The condensation effects were a tad underwhelming, since a generic breath pattern emerged every time. Random, maybe?

-----ENVIORNMENT-----

1. More Wind- Our only glimpse of wind in Metroid Prime is the room leading to Chozo Plaza. Blowing sand, snow, dust-anything more would be nice. Also would affect the rain.

2. Footprints- Samus doesn't leave foot prints in the snow. A minor quibble but one nonetheless.

3. Higher elevations. Metroid Prime seemed like you were buried in canyons in Phendrana, Magmoor, (well...) Chozo Ruins, and the overworld. I really wanted to go to the top of a Windmill Tower, like the one in Phendrana Canyon. Looking around the terrain, seeing Quarantine Cave...Anyway.

4. "AI"- The Flying Pirates were pretty stupid. Make them hide behind buildings and such, instead of idly waiting for me to switch to the Plasma Cannon and blow the crap out of them.

5. Nature's cycle at work- More Metroids sucking the life out of Space Pirates!

6. Some sort of bump-mapping- 'nuff said

Well, that's what I can think of. Anyone else?

Well, okay. As long as the reply button isn't 'brought to you by Taco Bell', with pyschodelic flashing color ads for priceline.com in the background, I'll be fine.

All about the options. But being required to buy Xbox Live? Ouch. If you don't already have it, the game costs 80 dollars.

Something's really slowing down the forums, when I hit back it's like it's loading a whole new page.
