Nintendo Gaming / hitman 2: silent assassin
« on: July 21, 2003, 12:51:42 PM »
Loath though I am to dredge up a week-old thread, I'm curious to see some more opinions on this game (it is quite new, so I figure there might be some fresh impressions to be had).  On the framerate issue in particular.

I bought the game recently and am thinking of bringing it back due to performance issues, specifically in outdoor areas.  But, I'm currently immersed in a couple of other games (Splinter Cell, Metroid Prime), so I've only played a couple of missions.  In both I noticed (sometimes ugly) slowdowns, but only occasionally.  It wasn't enough to completely throw me off my game; it was enough, however, to make me wonder if all the missions have some issues.

So if there's anyone out there who has finished it (or at least played a majority of the missions) and could provide some guidance, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Nintendo Gaming / Cube specs?
« on: July 06, 2003, 03:26:29 AM »
I believe the graphics chip was designed by a company called ArtX (something along those lines).  ATi bought them out both to position themselves for a contract with Nintendo and to integrate the underlying tech into their PC boards (it's been speculated that the acquisition is what allowed them to gain an edge over Nividia with their R200-core boards, but I'm not sufficiently well versed in the technology to say how accurate that assertion is).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Just a few questions (stealth & RPG related)
« on: July 06, 2003, 03:07:53 AM »
Well, it seems that Skies is well liked in these parts.  So, limiting the discussion to the stealth games:  my understanding is that Splinter Cell has great graphics, that both Splinter Cell and Hitman 2 have similar controls (for better or worse), and that Hitman 2 has the more diverse range of gameplay.  Yikes! I'm still torn; any thoughts?

Artimus:  I don't see myself using a GameBoy much, and portability isn't much of an issue vis-à-vis the 'cube.  Plus, there's an HDTV laying in wait for my arrival at the cottage I'm headed to.

Artimus & NintendoFanGirl:  For better or worse, you're both echoing what I've read in reviews.  I'm still wondering if there are dissenting opinions worth consideration.

Anyhoo, cheers.

Nintendo Gaming / Just a few questions (stealth & RPG related)
« on: July 05, 2003, 07:37:42 AM »
So, I'm headed to Nova Scotia for vacation and planning to bring my lil' black cube with me.  I'm also thinking of picking up a couple of fresh titles, but I need some input.  On the stealth/action front, both Splinter Cell & Hitman 2 look appealing; turning to RPGs, both Skies of Arcadia and Summoner 2 have their advocates.

Are they all great?  Should I just bite the bullet and buy all four?  Any feedback appreciated.

[note to Mods: please allow this stand-alone thread; specific comparisons seem to get lost under the "Gettin' Cube...finally!" banner]

Nintendo Gaming / Too Human?
« on: July 05, 2003, 06:54:53 AM »
Actually, this is a point of real concern: I loved Eternal Darkness, but there is a real possibility that Too Human could wind up as an albatross around the neck of Silicon Knights.  The buzz is pronounced, the timeline is elongated... the comparison to DNF may well have legs.

Personally, though, I have faith.
