Well I'd consider Rhapsody Symphonic Metal actually, or how they put it on the "Symphony Of Enchanted Lands" cover, Symphonic Epic Hollywood Metal. But I love all the other bands you listed, especially Opeth and SymX...

Myself, I've got AFI next month, Yes in September, Metallica in January, and Strapping Young Lad are planning a tour down here, but no dates yet...

Genesis is Collins former act, but they were only good when he was the drummer and Peter Gabriel was up front.

The Who aren't a prog band though, despite the concpet albums they put out. Rick Wakeman is Yes' keyboardist by the way...

And I'm going to see Yes in September...

Well I see you like Rick Wakeman, so are you into Yes? Yes are one of my favourite bands.
Some good old prog bands to check out would be Yes, King Crimson, Camel, Rush, Genesis, Jethro Tull. Some prog metal bands to check out would be Dream Theater (my favourite band), Fates Warning, Symphony X.

Anyway, PF and Radiohead are two bands I love also. I like Zeppelin and Tool, but I'm not into them as much as I used to be...

Of all time or at the moment?

My all time favourite song is Dream Theater's "A Change Of Seasons"

But at the moment I'm really liking Children Of Bodom's "Needled 24/7" and Godspeed You! Black Emperor's "Motherfucker=Redeemer"...

Well I'm only basing it on the Everclear singles that I've heard, so I guess you're one up there. But Nu Metal is where they tune down their guitars in a pathetic attempt to sound heavy, while still being radio friendly. They always play in drop D and play one finger power chords, they include a rapper and/or a DJ.

Linkin Park's singer is an idiot, his vocals are incredibly easy, but he's tearing out his vocal chords singing like that. For what purpose? In addition, the music is bland, repetitive, and you could train monkeys to play their songs. Hell I learnt one step closer on bass in like 10 minutes. Funny how it was just as easy to forget...

General Chat / A tribute to Nirvana
« on: July 07, 2003, 06:56:58 PM »
Well my instrument of choice is voice, and yes, I can sing any Nirvana song with the greatest of ease. I can also play a few of the songs on guitar, bass and drums, but I don't play those instruments...

And skill is very important to me, as is complexity. Simple music is fine for some people, but I prefer intricacy, and thick musicianship...

I've been singing properly for about 10 years now, I'm self taught on the piano, I'm novice. And I know the basics of guitar, bass and drums, but I'm taking guitar lessons soon...

So you like? Who are your favourite prog bands?...

Sure, Nirvana pretty much gave Grunge a name, but their songs are all of simple structure. Kurt got some cool sounds out of his guitar, but as far as skill goes? He was nothing.

And everybody who is basing Soundgarden on Black Hole Sun is being foolish...

hey Johnny Wonderpants, I just recently got into Opeth. they did a cover of Celtic Frost's "Circle Of The Tyrants" I just picked up "Damnation" and I'll be seeing them on tour in DC on 7.21. the new album is definitely one of the best I've heard so far this year. right behind the new Type O Negative album "Life Is Killing Me" Type O rules!!!

Hey, Damnation is kick arse, definitely, but it's their worst IMO. My Arms, Your Hearse is my favourite.

@Kraven. All the same except Linkin Park and Everclear? Linkin Park are just another Nu Metal bands with little to no skill, and Everclear are the biggest Nirvana ripoff I've ever heard...

Nirvana are OK, but seriously? The most overrated band of all time. Smells Like Teen Spirit, while it did do a whole lot for grunge, was a simple piece of trash.

Anyway, my favourite Nirvana songs are Aneurysm, Heart Shaped Box, Sliver...
