Nintendo announces release dates for new titles and highlights for GameCube and Game Boy Advance.

PGA tour rookie Ben Curtis may have clinched the British Open from Tiger Woods, but does he have the chops to take Mario™, Bowser or Princess Peach in the freshly groomed Toadstool Tour?  On July 28, professional golfers and every would-be golfer dreaming of greener pastures will get their chance to tee-up against a collection of Nintendo characters in Mario Golf™: Toadstool Tour, only for Nintendo GameCube™. Looking at the scorecard, Nintendo is in position for another record year.  Highlights include:


Nintendo GameCube More than 100 new first- and third-party titles expected for Nintendo GameCube, stretching through the holidays.


 In November, Mario fans rejoice with the release of Mario Kart®: Double Dash!!™ and Mario Party®5. Both have a suggested retail price of $49.99 and launch Nov. 17 and Nov. 11 respectively.


 On Dec. 1, a storm watch for 1080°™: Avalanche will consume the nation, while the all-new Pokémon Channel™ makes its television introduction, with a suggested price of $49.99 and $39.99 respectively.


 Filling out the year are a host of incredible third-party exclusive titles, including Soul Calibur II from Namco, featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda® series; WWE WrestleMania XIX from THQ; P.N. 03 and Viewtiful Joe from Capcom; Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg from Sega; Star Wars Rogue Squadron III:  Rebel Strike from LucasArts; and Hideo Kojima's entry to Nintendo GameCube, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes from Konami, among others.


 The highly anticipated, genre-breaking effort from Nintendo and Square Enix Inc., Final Fantasy®: Crystal Chronicles™, makes history when it launches Feb. 9, 2004, for a suggested retail price of $49.99. Game Boy® Advance Completely comfortable tearing up the sand, grass and water hazards of any road, Top Gear Rally races on to the Game Boy Advance system on Oct. 6 for a suggested retail price of $34.99.


 Complimenting the release of the all-time best-selling video game in history, Super Mario® Advance 4: Super Mario Bros.® 3 on Oct. 21, are the Super Mario Advance 4-e cards for Nintendo's e-Reader. The game will retail for $34.99.


 Making its U.S. debut, the tactical strategy game, Fire Emblem™, conquers Game Boy Advance on Nov. 3 for a suggested price of $34.99.


 Also on Nov. 17, the famous brothers unite with Mario & Luigi™, providing an all-new role-playing experience for a suggested retail price of $34.99.


 Life is preserved with Sword of Mana™, the long-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed Mana series. Launching Dec. 1, suggested retail price for saving the universe is $34.99.

This fall, Nintendo will be holding a concert performed by two bands, with guests Shigeru Miyamoto, Koji Kondo, and the Nintendo Sound Staff.

On September 14th, Nintendo will be holding the "Mario & Zelda Big Band Live Concert" at the Tokyo Seinen-kan Large Hall.  Two bands, Tokyo Cuban Boys Jr. (Big Band of Rogues) and Yoshihiro Arita with his band, will be performing select songs from the Mario and Zelda games.  The songs are new arrangements, performed in latin and jazz styles.


A general ticket is 3800 yen, but you can also purchase a family ticket (4 tickets in 1 set) for 13700 yen.  


The guests at the show will be Koji Kondo, Issei Totaka, Kenta Nagata, and other Sound Staff, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Takashi Tezuka.


The music performance will include the following songs,


From Super Mario Bros:

  • Main Theme from Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Main Theme from Super Mario World
  • Main Theme from Super Mario Sunshine


    From Legend of Zelda:

  • Main Themes from the Zelda games
  • Epona's Song
  • Koji Kondo's recommendation, Mambo. No. 5


    In addition to the music, there will be a talk with featured guests.

    TalkBack / Nintendo Puzzle Collection announced for US

    Nintendo Puzzle Collection, the compilation disc that includes Dr. Mario, Panel de Pon, and Yoshi's Cookie, is heading to the United States.  Check here for details on the US version.

    In what may come as a surprise and relief for Panel de Pon fans, the US version of Nintendo Puzzle Collection will contain the original Panel de Pon, and not a new version of Pokemon Puzzle League or Tetris Attack.


    Nintendo Puzzle Collection features the ability to download GBA versions of the games into your Gameboy Advance, in addition to using the system as a controller for better digital control.  Nintendo Puzzle Collection also features four player options and new game modes including Panel de Pon's 3D mode.

    We're not sure how this escaped our radar.  Check out first pics and information on Idea Factory's 1st quarter GameCube RPG.

    Billed an "Animation + SLG + RPG" game, Generation of Chaos Exceed is the latest in Idea Factory's long running Spectral series.  

    Generation of Chaos Exceed combines traditional SRPG gameplay (war battles and micromanagement) with RPG elements (dungeon exploring) and according to the company website, Animation sequences can be unlocked.  It is not known if these sequences are traditional anime or FMV.  Check out our game profile for screenshots and artwork.

    Idea Factory is primarily known in the West for their XBox action RPG Ex Chaser.

    TalkBack / Gamecube Masterpiece Puzzle Collection revealed

    According to Japanese retail shop Seagull Club, Nintendo has its own 16-bit game collection to go on sale for Gamecube soon.

    Tentatively known as 'Masterpiece Puzzle Collection', the title will contain Doctor Mario, Panel de Pon, and Yoshi's Cookie.  It is unknown if these titles will be merely ports or will be enhanced somehow.  The price and release date are unknown as well.

    First details of Nintendo's 84 page booklet + game video dvd are released on Nintendo's website.

    Coming to various stores in Japan, the Nintendo Book 2002 is a whopping 84 pages of previews of all of Nintendo's upcoming (and some released) games, ranging from Zelda to 3rd party titles such as Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.  In addition to this book, an included DVD contains videos and multimedia of various games including Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle and Biohazard 0.  There is even an interview with the creator of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on the disc.

    In a bit to cater to adult otaku males, Nintendo is releasing a limited edition Chobits Gameboy Advance which also includes the Chobits LE game.

    From NCS:
    "Nintendo will release a limited edition Chobits Gameboy Advance handheld bundled with the Chobits software on September 27. The GBA unit features a clear-blue shell with a Chobits logo located directly above the directional pad."



    The bundle will be priced at 14,600 yen.
