The stations that I watch have DS commercials on constantly. Nintendo commercials in general. I haven't seen anything on Halo 2 or Half-Life 2

Nintendo Gaming / RE: PSP vs DS
« on: November 16, 2004, 03:52:23 PM »
Once again many of us are giving in to the sensationalized media of the PSP. My rule of thumb is if Sony says their system is capable of something, or releases specs, I downgrade it by 10% because they're geniuses and propoganda. Make the people believe and they'll consume.

The issue that I believe should be at the forefront is definitely durability. In my opinion once you look past the graphics, design should really be the issue at the forefront. Aesthetically, I believe both companies did a very a good job at what they set out to accomplish. I've really heard both sides of the coin when it comes to design. Some like PSP, some like DS. Aesthetically, I think the PSP slightly edges the DS, but that's not my concern.
Look at the durability of both systems and compare. DS: Clamshell design equates to protection of the system's vitals, secure cartridge slots mean no loss of gameplay if dropped or shaken violently, when closed the thickness of the unit is increased making it a tougher system overall.
With the PSP, the whole system is exposed. The screen is bound to take heavy damage. I remember complaining about my GBA screen getting riddled with scratches, take that to another extreme with the PSP. The analog joystick has a huge risk of getting damaged and possibly malfunctioning if dropped, the lack of thickness and extreme lightweight could make for a fragile system, when dropped, the UMD might be damaged in the process.
I remember having CD players where if I'd drop it, the player would sometimes open and spit out my CD, causing irrepairable scratches.
Portables NEED to be durable because they are being taken everywhere you go, everywhere you need to play, whether it be an airport terminal, walking to the store, riding the bus...and in the past, Sony has a reputation of making their products rather fragile while Nintendo has a legacy of keeping consumers satisfied with durability. I've heard a lot of stories about GBAs and GBCs being left out in the rain, snow, put through the wash. You name it and they survived.

Not really. It maybe would have sold double on PS2, if its lucky, and the PS2 has about 10 times the user base of the GC. Which means more percentage of GC owners would have bought it. This is selling very good for a GC game.

Why should the size of GC's user base matter to Namco? The size of the console's user base is irrelevant.

Dude, are you on drugs? 200,000 copies of a game is a LOT in one week. In one week they're already 2/5 of they're projected sales figure. By the end of the year I predict Tales will reach around 850,000-1 million.

And why are we arguing about this? Its on Gamecube and we should thank Namco for that!

Its selling like mad in Japan right now and probably single handedly put the GCN on a pedastal above PS2. It also got rated very well on Degenki and Famitsu and they said the story was refreshing. Personally I think the anime cutscenes look uber cool

Nintendo Gaming / RE:My GC memory card broke! How do I restore the data??
« on: September 07, 2003, 08:26:25 AM »
It reads the other memory cards perfectly. I've had no problems with my GCN internally. Every game worked fine, only the damaged memory card seems to not work. It was working for a while after it broke, but it stopped working before I could purchase another card

the shell is broken in half but the card is totally intact and has no visible damage to it. I used the end you stick into the gamecube and put the mem card in but it said the object inserted into slot b cannot be used. Perhaps it just can get in properly, or maybe some data has been corrupted. Do you think Id be able to get the data restored?

Oh, the gamcube fell off the tv and landed on the corner the memory card sticks out so it took all of the impact on a cement floor. The memory card basically broke in half but theres no visible physical damage to the internal card itself.

The memory cards outer shell is broken but the memory card itself is intact. Whenever I put the mem card in the slot it says "The object inserted into slot B cannot be used". Do I have to get it repaired? What can I do

General Chat / I need your input/help
« on: June 17, 2003, 06:55:32 AM »
I was talking with one of my teachers the other day about starting a school based video game magazine. I know how it's going to be setup and everything but it costs a lot of money to print on glossy paper with colour. She suggested getting sponsers and whatnot, put ads in the mag. So it got me thinking...who should I turn to for support? There are many companies out there but I need your input. Also she said you should setup something on a CD that proves you're serious. I'm wondering what I should do. Powerpoint? Something with PS? Writing material? I need some help how to go about this.
