Despite all the game droughts and bone headed marketing decisions, I really do love the Wii U. Every first party game that comes out reminds me why Nintendo is the best game developer on the market. The "lesser" graphics actually don't bother me, since games like Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World look way better than what the PS4 and Xbox One are offering (at least for the moment).

All in all, yes I'd love to see some more games, but to be honest, they come out at just about the rate I can afford them to come out.  Any faster, and I'd be falling behind. Plus, I'm stoked for several of next year's big games.

I don't see the Wii U name as such a huge issue. Truthfully, the only people who don't know it's a new console are the "casual/non gamers" that put the Wii sales through the roof, and I'd be willing to bet they don't care about a new console anyway.

Consider this: the concept of next gen is pretty much exclusive to the video game industry. Sure, all forms of technology from TVs to cars advance, but its much more gradual. I can still drive my 89 Ford Ranger without any problems. The need to be current is not as important. Thus, to a non gamer, they probably apply the same principle to gaming systems. They can continue to play Wii Sports on the Wii and enjoy it without having to buy a new console. That's all they bought it for anyway.

I think Nintendo's problem is continuing to reach out to the casual gamer. They sort of bottled lightning with the Wii. It's not gonna happen again. They need to fully turn their focus back to the hardcore gamers who kept them afloat every generation before the Wii. And they all know the Wii U is a new console.

I... don't even... Cranky Kong? That's what all the hullabaloo has been for? Really? I mean, fine, he's a playable character, but did we really need two weeks of hype for that? I love Nintendo games, but I will never understand their marketing strategy, or lack thereof.

The only upcoming Wii U games that have already been announced and had footage shown that really appeal to the Spike audience are Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2 and Monolith Soft's X.  If Nintendo was smart they'd show a new trailer for all three, especially Bayonetta 2 and X since we haven't gotten any new footage from those two since E3.  Of course Nintendo doesn't always do the smart thing so who knows.

So yeah, hopefully it's something involving those games.  Don't expect any totally new games unless Iwata himself will be their with a Nintendo Direct airing in Japan around the same time.

Good point, I hadn't thought about that. I don't see Spike TV people caring much about LoZ, etc. Not saying there aren't any who do, but if it's strictly a Nintendo of America thing, it's not gonna be anything that hasn't even been unveiled in Japan.

Well crap. So much for that.

I agree with most of the posters on the site. Either LoZ or whatever "new IP" Miyamoto's got up his sleeve. I suppose we'll see.

Except when I played it on virtual console I thought the same thing

Well, like I said, it's definitely a sparse game, improved graphics or not. I suppose since I grew up with it, I don't mind it as much. The 3DS version just took away some of the nostalgia, which perhaps makes me a bit more critical of it.

But now there is a more up-to-date version on the 3DS.

Coming from someone who has played the heck out of OoT, I honestly felt the remake did a disservice to the game. It was great, don't get me wrong, but I felt the improved graphics brought out the worst in the game. The story is sparse, the land is even more so, but when it has N64 graphics, you don't notice that as much (or at least I didn't). I mean, it's an N64 game, give it a break. But without that context, it seems... empty, especially coming off the heels of Skyward Sword.
