The problem that I am starting to see with online gaming is that the single player experience in games seems to not be as fully developed.  It seems to me that developers are starting to become too dependent on the online aspect of gaming therefore not spending nearly as much time developing story lines, good computer A.I., etc.    Also the length of single player games seem to be getting shorter and shorter because depelopers have the attitude of "oh well, once they'll beat single player in a day but they'll play online for months.   Well I want better single player apspects of games.

Another thing is that playing with or against "Joe Shmoe" from timbucktwo is not as fun as playing with your buddies in the same room.   I remember spending countless hours with my friends playing Goldeneye and trash talking each other as we play.   To me THAT is what multi-player gaming is all about!  It's the comraderie you develop with your friends while playing.  Not with complete strangers.

Nintendo Gaming / question about Gamcube and High Def tv.....
« on: April 25, 2003, 11:34:33 AM »
I'm purchasing a 51" hitatchi high def tv and my question is do ANY Gamecube games support high def resolutions (720p, 1080i)?  I see where Metroid Prime and Zelda support progressive scan but nothing about true high def.

Also, anybody know where I can actually FIND component cables for my Gcube??

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Kart Discussion (TALK ABOUT MARIO KART HERE)
« on: April 25, 2003, 07:31:22 AM »
Based on the screens we've seen (yes all 5 low rez ones) I think the game looks just fine.  Does it blow me away?  No not really but this IS Maro Kart we're talking about, not Gran Tourismo.   What I see is ENORMOUS animation potential in this game.  Look in that one shot how they actually animate Mario turning around and dropping the bannas on the road!  Where as before your kart just sort of 'crapped' the bannana out the back.   Also, I can just picture going around tight corners and your partner holding on to the roll bar and leaning WAAYYYYYY to the right or the left to keep the kart stabilized (not saying it's there, just saying I can picture that).

Last night I played Mario Kart 64 with a buddy of mine for the first time in probably a year.  We had an absolute blast!  The game is just FUN!  That's all you can say.  Also, anyone who says this game is just a higher rez N64 version is nuts!  You need to go play the 64 version again and then look at those screens!   Is it higher rez?  Yes but I also see a lot more detail in the game than in the 64 version.  I'll bet you this will look like a racing cartoon!   Bring it on cuz I can't wait!

If you want "blow me away" drop dead gorgeous highly stylized racing then get Fzero when it comes out.   If you want a great multi player FUN title with good graphics get Mario Kart.

Nintendo Gaming / why dosnt nintendo...
« on: April 25, 2003, 05:42:49 AM »
Well about the only thing negative I can say about Nintendo is that they are NOT risk takers.   Nintendo are unabashed capitalists and are not going to do anything that dosen't make money.   Why do you think they didn't release the GBA with a light in the first place?   Because at the time they thought it added too much cost and the system wouldn't be as profitable.  Plus it ate the battery life.  Why do you think Nintendo went with cartridge instead of cd rom on the 64 (a huge mistake in my opinion)?   Because they were uncertain how the medium would be embraced and they were fearful of piracy issues.

Get this in your heads folks....Nintendo will never ever sacrifice profit for innovation.  That's not to say Nintendo hasn't been innovative over the years because they have.  I'm just saying that more so than any other company, when a new idea comes to the table Nintendo really asks themselves how profitable is this going to be.

Until there is a significant mainstream mass market for console online gaming, Nintendo is not interested.   10% may seem like a big number, but believe me if you really knew the cost on what MS spent to get their online service up and running you'll realize that they are losing money there just like they're losing money on the Xbox itself.   How do you think Nintendo would feel if Zelda only sold to 10% of the Gcube owners out there?

No without a doubt, Nintendo is more interested in BOTTOM lines than headlines.
