TalkBack / Re: Splatoon: Over A Million Splatted
« on: June 25, 2015, 11:18:19 AM »

This could so easily have been a Mario game, too, with the Mario Sunshine similarities and the squids resembling Bloopers.  Maybe they realized that Mario is a little overexposed.

I didn't see the sales potential in the game.  Way to prove me wrong, Nintendo.

Not to toot my horn, but I basically called that in my pre-E3 prediction last year (scroll through comments), under the title Mario Paint(ball). Everything that Splatoon is, is pretty dead-on accurate to what I predicted, minus the Mario theme (and that damnable lack of Voice Chat!), complete with the avoidance of red paint.

I'll just assume my other predictions -- Kid Icarus 3D Platformer (by Retro?!), Startropics and Pokemon MMO -- are being held for a massive NX reveal.

Crazy predictions for Wii U:

Kid Icarus for the Wii U: a return to its platforming origins, KI:U is a kind of vertical 3-D platformer where Pit must traverse soaring towers and foreboding, uh, pits. Some puzzling/strategy is involved to reach new sections and he'll often use Glide to cross the void. Think LoZ, but ALL dungeon.

Mario Paint(ball) for Wii U: Nintendo jumps into the much-touted FPS market with Mario Paint(ball). A hodge-podge of Characters from the Mario Universe (another Wii U game I want to see, btw) wield various paint projectiles and items to shoot (Nintendo will say "tag" and avoid red paint) opponents in battle mode or work together to complete campaign-mode objectives. DLC maps from the get-go, online rankings and some sort of voice chat. Imagine playing a 12-person online match on, say, Bob-Omb Battlefield (HD'ified, of course)!!!!

Pokemon MMORPG for Wii U: if Nintendo wants Wii U sales to blow up overnight, THIS is the game it must do (though they could just save it for the next console and make it an instant sales giant...). I've never played a Pokemon game and I've never played an MMORPG, but this concept, and this one alone, would change that. Players could do dungeon crawls, missions, achievements in the form of "badges." At a certain level, players could even build their own gyms and accept challengers. This game would be a huge deal...

Mike from StarTropics announced as playable Smash character: Which leads to...

New StarTropics game announced for Wii U: 3D and/or side-scrolling game with expanded ocean exploration (both above and below). Those aliens took his uncle again and Mike has to save him! Just don't submerge your Gamepad in water to reveal the secret message...

Was just about to suggest Metroid Prime: Trilogy for your list.

I think you're right about the Message Board stuff. I remember being bummed, having JUST bought the game. Well, guess it's time to go back to Corruption and not worry about the purple (?) credits...

So this seems like a modern-day Solar Jetman, without the interesting (and difficult!) gravity/inertia component you learned to work with in the NES game.

Don't get me wrong, this game looks neat, but I can't help but thinking it'd be better if it was bounded by the physics of the planet the little ship was in.

Ok, I'll admit...I just want a new Solar Jetman. Loved the crap out of that game!

Was tantalizing to 100%'ing de Blob 2 and Okami when the Wii finally crashed a cfew months back (it as a good seven years, old friend), so now I'm going back to those.

Next up on the backlog is The Last Story (at chapter 31...damn you, cave cougars!) and Metroid Prime: Corruption.

Would have much preferred a "Dr. Luigi, DDS" game, to further solidify the "second fiddle brother"  storyline.

Mama Mario (with New York Italian dialect): "Oh, you aced your dental exams, Lu? That's pretty good, I guess. I mean your brother Mario's a real doctor, but dentistry is respectable too..."

"Slightly curious name aside, ZombiU is a game full of potential."

Again, it's not a curious choice of names. Ubisoft made "Zombi" in 1990 for computers. Now they're making "ZombiU." Besides the obvious usage of zombies in each, they both also use the system where a character who dies continues to exist within the game as a zombie.

Got mine in mid-07 on a whim and a hunch. Have about twenty-five games knocked down in full (or almost in full), a lot of Netflix and A LOT of the Nintendo Channel (R.I.P. Nintendo Week! I miss you!). It's still going strong and I doubt I'll pick up the Wii U, do I look forward to bargain-binning a bunch of titles I still haven't played. And hitting the VC and WiiWare some more too.

Love the Wii. My favorite console to date.

EDIT: No real problems to-date as far as functionality. Sakura Wars: So Long My Love locks up sometimes, but I suspect that's a disc issue (and it doesn't show up on my game log! Lame...). My remote charging station is on its last leg. Takes perfect positioning on the cradle to get it to recharge.

TalkBack / Re: Tomb Raider May Be Released on Wii U
« on: June 07, 2012, 12:32:31 PM »
Few current gen XBox/PS3 games entice me, because I'm not a shooter fan (and those exist in spades!), but this is one that I would definitely pick up. Tomb Raider has always been more story-driven adventure than run-and-gun shooter.

DC fighting game, huh? I remember playing this on my Sega Genesis back in 1996. It was fun!

Only then it was called "Justice League Task Force."

Just call it the Nintendo Fiil already and call it a day. Nintendo, Super NES, 64, Gamecube, Wii -- stick with tradition and come up with something different, even if you're leaning heavily on the double-i branding of the Wii.

TalkBack / Re: New Play Control! Pikmin 2 Finally Coming Stateside
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:52:50 PM »
I'll just be that guy who hopes for a Pikmin Trilogy release in 2014.

That would be fun, something like the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Wouldn't shock me, Nintendo seems more willing to offer compilations then they did in the past. Hopefully if they do, they at least put the same amount of resources into it as they did with the Prime Trilogy

That's really my hope for third parties games that are making their Nintendo debut on WiiU. For instance, I would like to play Assassin's Creed or the Arkham series, but I don't plan on buying an XBox or PS3. So if the third installment of those games are coming to the WiiU (which I plan to get), then I'm hoping the first two in each series gets ported over as a two-game compilation or (gasp!) a digital download. THEN I'd play/buy all of 'em.

I've got a really good idea for a drawing.

Now the only question is...in this particular drawing, who should be the hugged and who should be the hugger...

Seeing this REALLY makes me want to play Tiger-Heli again. In 3D.

Nintendo, make this happen, please.
