Nintendo Gaming / metroid scans!
« on: May 10, 2003, 05:37:55 PM »
er ok so this should probably be in the "gameplay help" forum but i posted one there days ago and nobody's replied (does anyone even ever go there?)

I've got 93% scanned, about to face meta ridley in hard mode. I've got all the 'red entry' scans, the ones you only have  one chance or whatever to scan up to this point.

in research logs

"small missile ammo"
"medium missile ammo"
"????"
"power bomb ammo"

does anyone know what entry belongs in the question marks? it'd seem like there'd be a 'large missile ammo' but i don't think i've ever seen one.

all the guides on the net merely list "missile ammo" with no reference to different sizes

so i'm kind of stuck.... any help would be appreciated

(please don't lock or remove this because it's in the wrong forum... the other forum isn't really too helpful)

Nintendo Gaming / metroid Prime rocks!!!

so from these posts (the ones that i read as i skimmed over)

i take it nobody shares my opinion of how similar it is to zelda? (ocarina of time)

the music is similar, the graphics are often very similar and the general atmosphere altogether reminds me of zelda. ignoring the obvious difference that it's in first person...

instead of heart pieces you get energy capsules
and the whole finding missile expansions, as opposed to extra bomb bags and such

instead of navi, you have the scanner...

and the way you fight bosses, once again similar (finding a SPECIFIC weakness and using a defined method to kill it)

i dunno, the only major difference between the two seems to be the perspective at which you play them.

it just feels the same to me

and yeah, they're two of my favourite games ever.

Nintendo Gaming / pokemon on gamecube?
« on: May 10, 2003, 02:37:00 AM »
With the success that pokemon is having on the gameboy..

and considering (from what i have observed) ... the relative poor sales of the gamecube and such

wouldn't it be a great idea (and absolutely awesome) to port the pokemon game from gameboy onto gamecube? i'm talking a full 3d, zelda style game. like you get to wander a vast world and battle trainers and catch pokemon. would that not be the most awesome thing ever?

I half expected it on the n64, but all we got was stadium and snap.

why hasn't this been done??

or indeed, is anything like this in the works?

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Prime General Help
« on: May 08, 2003, 06:53:47 PM »
ok

here's a problem for the most hardcore metroid prime players (well i'd assume so!)

I finished the game scanning like 71% of stuff.. missing heaps of "red-entry" scans (the things you only have one chance to scan)

so i thought i'd do it again whilst playing it in hard mode also

now i've got 93% scanned, using a guide to not miss any red entries, i have all chozo artifacts and i'm about to face meta ridley... he's the third last red entry, metroid prime being the last 2.

I have all pirate and chozo lore/data, and i've worked out that i only need a couple more creatures... i'm pretty sure i know what i'm doing.

"small missile ammo"
"medium missile ammo"
"????"
"power ball ammo"

all guides i've read that list research scans have everything that I have, and only have "missile ammo" listed, not the different sizes.

to me, the list implies that there'd be a large missile ammo, but i don't think i've ever, ever seen one. and this is my second completion of the game.

so what is this scan??

anyone that can help, thank you!

Nintendo Gaming / Ugh... Metroid Prime Errors

how could it possibly be the memory card??

the only function that has is to load the game at save points

.... when the game freezes, the memory card isn't doing anything at all

it is the game, i guess it's just my bad luck (and your good luck!) that mine has frozen and yours hasn't

or something

the nature of the freeze suggests it's my game - if it was the cube or something else, then it would completely freeze, but the music continues to play after the video and controls freeze up. it's evidently a programming flaw... ;/

but then again, i know little of how the game nor the memory card nor the cube itself functions, so yeah it could be something else i suppose - but i doubt it.

I'm from perth, in australia.

bought the game yesterday as part of a pack (gamecube + game)

the freezing is so damn annoying it's not funny

first freeze was when i scanned something in one of the rooms in chozo ruins with a spider ball magnetic track

then it froze again when i scanned the first turrets you encounter in magmoor north

then froze again when i spent another half an hour getting from my save point to back to the same turrets, merely tried to shoot them this time and it froze again

then it froze when i was scanning the pillars where you find the first chozo artifact

but it's weird - the music doesn't freeze, the display locks up.
i press a button (i think start) and the screen goes black, but it's still playing the music

AND NOTHING ELSE

so i have to turn the power off and back on again, because reset won't work

this is the most goddamn annoying thing ever, with save points being so rare between all the time consuming things you have to do ;( ;( ;(

but what can you do?

unlike pc, there's never any hope of a bug fix / upgrade.

sigh
