Nintendo Gaming / RE: Just buy Sega already!
« on: May 28, 2003, 01:47:43 PM »
"I don't think it would work well for the Gamecube's image. Maybe Virtua Fighter Kids."
I'm going to stick it to Yu Suzuki. Suzuki's going down. I'm going to rape his village and burn his women.

Sega + Sony = Ok
Sega + Sammy = Good
Sega + Namco = Better
Sega + Nintendo = Best

I really agree with Moonwatcher, except:

"WHO FREEKIN CARES WHAT PLACE NINTENDO IS IN?!?!?" - Moonwatcher

I do. If Nintendo is left behind, they go out of business and we will be left without the games that beat the 3rd party games in the first place.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Final Fantasy
« on: May 24, 2003, 09:06:43 PM »
They could expand GCN's userbase using a regular controller. Just because it has the words "Final" and "Fantasy" on the same case, tons of people will pick up a GCN to play it. Look at me, for example. My first next-gen console was the GCN. I later bought a PS2, with the sole purpose being to play FFX.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo Power's Defense of GameCube
« on: May 24, 2003, 05:00:42 PM »
Uh... Nintendo forgot one. MechAssault. That's one kick-arse Xbox game.
But who cares? This is great! Go Nintendo! They need to put an advertisment with this list on it in every big video game website, Electronic Gaming Monthly, TV, and the Official Xbox Magazine.

5
Well, since there's many more people who own a GameBoy than those who own a GCN, I guess Nintendo assumes that everyone who owns a GCN owns a GB. The people who own a GCN without a GB are in the minority.

In reply to the kids not owning a GameCube:
I think the price won't help either way.
From what I hear, most kids under the age of 14 or 15 won't buy a GameCube because it's kiddy. My parents are very, very strict (my mom starts sweating when I ask for a M-rated game), but even I got away with Halo, and even DOA: Xtreme Beach Volleyball.
2nd) When kids see "Xbox - $150, PS2 - $150, GCN - $100", they're going to think the reason the GCN is cheaper is because it's a less powerful console/ it's not doing very well.
Above everything else, kids want to do what the "adults" are doing. They think adults are buying Xboxes (which isn't true from what I've seen, most gamers over the age of 18 have a PS2 and many have a GCN).
Of course, where I live price is rarely a concern. So maybe in "less-fortunate" neighborhoods, they will start buying a GCN once it goes under 100.

TalkBack / RE: Sega and Sammy Call it Quits
« on: May 07, 2003, 03:06:39 PM »
God I hope Microsoft doesn't buy them. I have an Xbox, so I wouldn't really be missing out on them, I just think Microsoft is buying themselves 2nd place in the industry (buying a bunch of good developers, spending a kajillion dollars on advertising, etc.).
If Nintendo bought Sega that'd be cool. But everyone knows that's never going to happen.
The best would definitely be Sega and Namco. As soon as I heard of the initial offer, I was like "drop Sammy, go with Namco." Just imagine! Soul Calibur 2 with Sonic... uh... ok, so maybe that wouldn't work out so well. But Namco and Sega would seriously be a great team.

Everyone's saying "Ooh, they have Fable and Halo 2." The problem is, those are the ONLY games Microsoft has. I also keep a list year-round of games I'm looking foward to (minus rumors and TBAs), and those two, plus Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, are the only ones on my Xbox list. My PS1/2 list has the most, but that's because I never owned a PS1 and I just got a PS2 for Christmas, so I have to catch up on all those great RPGs. My GameCube list is huge, and my GameCube is definitely my main console.
However, there's one main problem. I'm a "hardcore" gamer, so I know which games are good and which games are bad. For example, I know that Super Mario Sunshine was amazing. I know that SFA was a let down, and that Metroid Prime is one of the best games ever and everyone should play it. But other "casual" gamers don't. They buy whatever is "in style." That's where Nintendo is lacking. Most of the games that people are listing aren't going to be gigantic hits with "casual" gamers. Judging by the sales of Resident Evil 1 and 0 on GCN, I can guarantee you that 4 isn't going to sell as well as they'd like. But Xbox is great in getting the "casual" gamers to buy games that might not be as good as GCN games. Not to mention many "casual" gamers just outright refuse to play any game with Mario in it (or in the title) because it's "kiddy," even though SMS was one of my favorite games last year (beat only by Metroid and Vice City).

General Gaming / Why do nintendo fans hate Xbox so much?
« on: April 27, 2003, 12:25:28 PM »
I have all three consoles. The first console I bought was GameCube, because I've always loved Nintendo. I don't have any regrets, especially since right now I have more GCN games than I ever had N64 games, and I have more GCN games than Xbox and PS1/2 games combined. Over that 1st winter (after the release of the GCN), I was only playing SSBM (I had beaten Pikmin and played Star Wars Rogue Squadron a trillion times), and I was thinking how great I'd be to get an Xbox. So that February I had finally saved up enough money to buy a Xbox. Bad choice. I bought it with Halo, and Halo was the only Xbox game I owned for almost the rest of that year. The next games I picked up were Unreal Championship and MechAssault with Xbox Live (both are great games, but nothing spectacular), followed by Metal Gear Solid 2, Splinter Cell, and DOA: Xtreme Beach Volleyball (all three of which I'm going to sell because they suck). This past Christmas I got a PS2, and I am happily in Squaresoft bliss (I never owned a PS1).
Now that you've heard my story, I have to say I don't like Xbox. I don't hate it; it does have it's good points (Halo and Xbox Live, especially when put together), but I don't like it as much or play it as much as my PS2 and GCN (of course, you could say the reason I play so much PS2 is because of all the RPGs). GameCube is my near-perfect console; all it needs is more Square and it needs to loose its kiddy image. My PS2 makes up for all the GameCube's short-commings (lots of Square and I don't get made fun of at school for owning one). And my Xbox... sits there.

Nintendo Gaming / Evolution World or Skies of Arcadia?
« on: April 27, 2003, 01:23:29 AM »
Try Phantasy Star Online Episodes I and II. It's really had to find, but if you don't find it, there's always eBay. I looked for it about 2 or 3 weeks after its release and found the last one in my entire MALL (yes, I went to every store that sold video games and I found the last copy at the last store I'd visit, Target). When you say you like the Phantasy Star series, I assume you mean 1-4. Nonetheless, give this a try. I love it, and it's great to play a little while, then put it away to beat another game, then when you've beaten that game, play more PSO. The online function really makes it great to play forever.
Second I'd suggest Skies of Arcadia. I personally have not played it (I'm getting it for my birthday in one month), but both my best friend and my cousin says that it's great.
The other RPGs for GameCube that I know of are Evolution Worlds, Boulder's Gate, and Rune (known as Lost Kingdom in the US, I think). I wouldn't really recommend any of them.

Nintendo Gaming / Pokemon for someone who hates Pokemon?
« on: April 11, 2003, 07:56:14 PM »
Yeah, you should definitely pick this one up, especially if you've never played a Pokemon game before.
However, this isn't challenging at all. The most challenging part in any Pokemon game was back in the Red/Blue days, where as soon as you picked your Pokemon you had to fight your rival. That was tough, and totally up to chance. If your rival happened to do all attacking moves that time, you lost, but if he decided to do some stat-changing moves, you had a pretty good chance of winning. I remember turning my GB on and off so that I could beat him and get that free level. Now you can level up before fighting your rival for the first time. In Ruby, by the time I fought my rival, my Torchic was already at level 10. Sure, they upped the ante on the Elite Five (making the Pokemon higher levels), but a few runs through Victory Road just leveling up and they're no problem.
To sum it all up, if you're looking for a challenging game, this is definitely not it. However, Pokemon is addicting, fun, and has the biggest replay value of any game I've ever played (once you've done everything, you can work on making the "perfect" team, catching every Pokemon avaliable, and leveling up your "perfect" team to level 100).

Nintendo Gaming / GameShark...Worthwhile?
« on: April 11, 2003, 07:47:29 PM »
I had a GameShark for the N64, and I only used it for one thing: to screw around with GoldenEye (God that was fun).
I'm planning on picking up a GameShark for my GBA in a few days (for the same reason as you). I've never had a problem with my GameShark, and one of my friends has it for GBA and is using it with his Sapphire.
Oh, and about cheating... I already beat the game and caught Groudon, Latios, and Rayquaza the ligit way. I'm only using it to get a Mewtwo and Mew and the good stuff, and I'm not going to make any of my Pokemon level 100 or anything. So it depends on how you use it. If you get a Mewtwo right off the bat when you start the game and make it level 100, that'd be cheating. The way I'm using it isn't.

Nintendo Gaming / Star Wars Games
« on: April 11, 2003, 03:48:06 AM »
As probably most people who replied to this thread, I, too am a Star Wars fan (you can probably tell from my name, I've been into Star Wars for about 6 years now... not that much, but my collection is growing). I got Clone Wars for Christmas and I must say it's very disappointing. I saw it being unveiled at the Celebration II and I was like, "Wow, that game is going to be the next Rogue Leader!" As it turns out, the sound tracks are poor and you can tell when they repeat, the graphics aren't great, and the foot missions are so bad you want to kill yourself.
I bought Jedi Outcast for the PC when it came out, and it's an awesome game, but I haven't played the GCN version.
I haven't played Bounty Hunter. I gave up on third-person Star Wars adventure games after the horror that was Shadows of the Empire (N64).

One of my friends in school is also getting a GCN (finally. he was going to get one when it came out, but decided to get an Xbox at the last minute) and asked me which games he should get. My list applies to all:

1) Metroid Prime - FREE WITH CONSOLE, PEOPLE!!!
2) Super Smash Bros. Melee
3) Zelda: Wind Waker
4) Eternal Darkness
5) Super Mario Sunshine
6) Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2
