Nintendo Gaming / New to the forums but a Q about zelda

Hello, im new to the pgc forums. just signed up yesterday!!! yay!! but i do have a question probably a dumb one too. why do they call it legend of zelda when you are playing as link??? im sorry for the stupid Q but i started playing the zelda series from OoT , which is a great game. in my opinion the best game ever. just started to play windwaker yesterday and so far so great. but yeah if ne one wants to answer my Q it would be great. thanks!
