Thanks and appreciation to those that replied. From my perspective, this game will initially be a rental.

Hmmm, well, at the risk of sending all and sundry into frothing fits of hair pulling and teeth gnashing let me ask this;

I plug four standard Cube controllers into the controller ports, with nary a GBA/GBA SP in sight; will I, or will I not be able to have four people play the game with NO problems in game play whatsoever?

Maybe nintendo will be sneeky and have some big announcements after everyone elses to steal there thunder?

I certainly hope so, for I've found the bulk of the announcements lacklustre at best! Quite frankly, I'd rather see a lot of the GBA games announced, developed for the Cube instead. Yeah yeah, I know all about user base and profitability.

This game has been removed from my 'to buy' list. If I must needs purchase another GBA or more to enjoy mulitplayer that's an investment I'm not willing to make and I am neither pleased nor impressed with either company for this 'little' devlopment in gameplay.

Nintendo Gaming / The Death of a Zelda Fan: my WW experience
« on: April 13, 2003, 04:27:14 PM »
Gentlefolk...fret not, considering the amount of hoopla and general praise the game has garnered throughout gamedom at large...this fellows opinion is by far in the minority. If he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it and no amount of castigation is going to change his mind. He's entitled to whatever opinion he formulates based on whatever criteria he uses to judge games.

When I saw the first pics of Zelda on the net, like many others I was dismayed...I've since changed my mind. I was immediately taken with the new look when I saw it on my TV for the first time and held the controller in my hand. Nor do I give a flying fig what other people think of the game per se, nor any opinion they may have of me because I like it. *I* and mine enjoy it and are glad we made the purchase. It's bloody well fun...and this from a 'mature' gamer.

Nintendo Gaming / Vertical Lines in Windwaker
« on: April 05, 2003, 10:01:23 PM »
I noted these lines as well and mentioned it in another thread in the Hyrulian Forum...someone there told me it was due to dithering as was commented on earlier in this thread as well. It's annoying, but nothing I can't live with.

I think that's some kind of dithering. It happens at other times too, but it's not as noticable.

Ah, as I had suspected. Unfortunate that for as I mentioned, it quite spoils those moments. Can't say as I've noticed it elsewhere, but now that you've brought it up now I'll be looking for it.

On the whole, when we first booted the game up, as soon as I saw the wind blowing Links cell shaded hair any concerns about the 'look' of the game vanished as the 'wind' took them away. As we've continued the adventure, other than the 'dithering' effect alluded to, I've been impressed with the various lighting effects. I applaud Nintys choice for cell shading. As others have noted, the game has brought back earlier 'feelings' from earlier incarnations. I think the 'animations' are first rate, and I've enjoyed a lot of the dialogue text. My daughter and I have laughed out loud in places..."FWWWIIPPP! I say!" And we had to pause the game and howl when Link went up to the large pig back on Outset, and it tried to run away . The animation and sounds were a hoot! This kind of stuff is scattered througout the game and it's these little gems that lift the game to a new level of fun and enjoyment. Much like a Chuck Jones cartoon, this game operates on more than one level. I honestly don't know how Nintendo is going to top it in the next incarnation.

Game play is spot on, though I must be loosing my game chops. I've actually died a couple of times. Imagine having your enemies actually block/parry your attacks? Unlike Z: OOT the bad guys don't wait and attack you one at a time when 'targetting'. What a concept. I also like how the enemies react to your actions, their AI I guess. When I was fighting some Moblins I took out a bomb, when they 'saw' what I had, they ran away so the explosion wouldn't hurt them. I had dropped it down in front of them while standing on a ledge. After it exploded, they returned to the attack. Pretty spiff I thought.

Major thumbs up on this one Ninty! Very well done.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda Lives Up to Hype and More...
« on: March 30, 2003, 12:27:30 PM »
My daughter and I have been greatly enjoying the new Zelda. I do have a complaint however. I've noticed whilst sailing, during sunset sunrise transitions, I get these whiteish vertical lines forming. It's extremely noticable, quite annoying and offputting and quite spoils the effect of the transistion. If the remainder of the game didn't run fine graphically, I'd suspect something wrong with the game itself. As the problem doesn't occur at any other time, nor do I suspect my television or the Cube itself.

I've heard reference to something known as 'dithering' and was wondering if this was a result of that process, and , was curious if anyone else has experienced something similar? Thanks for time and input.

Nintendo Gaming / I am a 31 year old new GC owner
« on: March 24, 2003, 01:19:13 AM »
Bwahahahahahaha...I got all ye young whippersnappers beat. I have two kids in their early twenties and a third heading into her teens AND I have a three year old grandchild.

Do I play video games? You betcha...currently re-playing Zelda OOT on the GameCube and waiting for Wind Waker.  I too am a Nintendo fan and only own a GameCube at present and a GBA, and an N64. The Snes and Nes are...elsewhere. Actually, the GBA belongs to my youngest, though I 'borrow' it from time to time. Am looking at the SP though and the N64 and GameCube were bought more with the chillblains in mind but certainly I make use of it on an ongoing basis. Helps me relax and wind down and a good way to kill time every once in a while. I find I'll go in binges. Will play for a few days in a row, and then not touch it for a week or so. In that regard, I guess I'm slowing down a bit. Having said that, I suspect the new Zelda will be occupying my time for a bit though my youngest insists she gets to play it first. No problem there, I get to stay up later than she does.

Enjoy the games people.
