Nintendo Gaming / OMG! Nintendo has the best Customer Service!
« on: March 16, 2003, 11:40:39 AM »
I'd like a platinum GameCube and controller.  Do you think if I just called them and acted like a whiny kid who got an indigo Cube and wanted a platinum one, they'd swap it for me? Or should I break it and send it in?

Nintendo Gaming / It's offical, the AIAS awards are completely full of crap
« on: February 28, 2003, 10:18:17 AM »
Metroid Prime should have AT THE VERY LEAST won console game of the year, but it should have also taken game of the year. Metroid Prime was outstanding in every sense of the word and deserved both awards. This isn't just some upset Nintendo fan ranting; Metroid Prime is hailed as possibly one of the best games of all time.

Nintendo Gaming / No Mafia for cube
« on: February 27, 2003, 03:22:08 PM »
I was really excited after hearing Mafia was announced for GameCube, and even more so with the Serious Sam sequel. I will be very upset if these games don't make it.

Nintendo Gaming / Cube Online Discussion
« on: February 23, 2003, 02:43:06 PM »
I don't understand why everyone is so deathly afraid of 56k....I used to play Unreal Tournament and Counterstrike on 56k constantly, and I never really had problems. When I did, it was just the occasional lag and nothing that made me quit playing. If developers program their games correctly and Nintendo sets up an efficient way to play games online, I don't see a problem.

Nintendo Gaming / Are you satisfied with your Cube at the moment?
« on: February 19, 2003, 11:29:28 AM »
Overall, of course I'm happy with my GameCube.

But after Metroid Prime, I'll admit I've been playing only my X-Box. I've dusted it off only in the past couple of days to play the Zelda: OoT/MQ. And of course when WW comes out....the X-Box will be neglected for quite a while.

Nintendo Gaming / Is it just me, or is 1080 fugly?
« on: February 18, 2003, 04:39:47 PM »
I think 1080 was made by EAD....I remember EAD being all over the game (in initials, on billboards, etc).

I cannot believe that 1080 Avalanche is finished. That game has serious ugly problems. C'mon....nobody is really dying to get their hands on this game....can't they take a few more months and polish it? And by polish, I mean Michael Jackson-caliber plastic surgery.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo-No follow up ads
« on: February 18, 2003, 04:29:52 PM »
I see tons of "The Getaway" ads and quite a few "Panzer Dragoon Orta" ads. That's about it.

I have seen that "free game for GameCube" one a couple of times, though.

I don't know how anyone can be impressed by F-Zero. The backgrounds/buildings/off-the-track details are great looking, but the vehicles themselves are very basic. They look sort of plastic-toy-ish and way too clean. I remember the first thing I thought when I saw the trailer on the Zelda bonus disc for F-Zero was how they looked like N64 models put into a GameCube game. F-Zero overall seems too "colorful" if that's possible; it should be a bit darker and grittier. The framerate, though....... wow.

Nintendo Gaming / The new Pokemon Game for GCN
« on: February 17, 2003, 02:07:50 PM »
I'll admit that I have very limited experience with Pokemon; I have played Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Snap. But this thread has got me thinking, and I believe I have some interesting ideas as to what to do with the Pokemon franchise on GameCube. I understand that what I've come up with here is a bit different from the average Pokemon game, but I think it's time to steer the franchise in a fresh direction, at least for one game.

- The game should be a massively-multiplayer online RPG. A person would create their trainer by choosing a name, and customizing the clothes, face, body type, etc. Upon starting the game, you would be put into a huge world (much like Everquest I suppose) where you can travel to different towns and battle trainers there. Players could choose to be a trainer, or perhaps they could be a Pokemon doctor and open a hospital, etc, etc. There could be many professions that fit in the world of Pokemon that a player could choose. There would have to be some kind of currency, so players can purchase things. Players should also be allowed to form "clans".

- Towns should be set up like this: a group of players pool together their money to buy pre-designated "town sites" where a town can be built. There would be small, medium, and large town sites, each larger one naturally costing more money. They could then allow people to build shops, hotels, hospitals, training gyms, etc. at their discretion. The town's owner(s) would have to know a person to let them build in the town, assuring that pranksters don't run amok and also building a better sense of community. The town's owner(s) would have other similar powers, such as being able to ban an unruly player from their town.

- The towns would be allowed to have certain types of buildings according to how large of a town site they're on. The "small" towns could only have some houses, a hospital, etc., while a "large" town could have taller buildings, a stadium, etc. The towns with stadiums could advertise and hold periodical Pokemon tournaments that players could travel to participate in. Each town would be required to have a message board that messages from all towns are displayed on so that no matter where a player is currently at, he can see where tournaments are being held, when a new town is established, who won the latest tournament, etc etc. A private messaging system between players would be great also so you can meet up with friends. Also, a system would have to be in place so people could show their trophies, Pokemon, etc. to friends.

- When traveling across the countryside from town to town, random battles can occur if you want them to. It should be an option in the menu as to whether or not you want random battles. I think the turn-based battle system should stay, because that's really what makes the game Pokemon, but I'm not completely decided on this subject yet. A real-time battle system would have its advantages, such as a Zelda-style fighting setup. Keeping on the same road here and assuming that the game did have real-time battles, you should be able to accumulate a set number of attacks and assign which four or five you want to use to specific buttons. You would not be permitted to change this during your battles, so you would have to choose carefully.

- Nintendo could even set up some Nintendo-sponsored events such as a "Pikmin II Pokemon Tournament". They would pay a town a certain fee (in game currency, obviously) to use their stadium for the tournament, so it would encourage people to keep their towns nice and to make them attractive. Keeping the example of a "Pikmin II Pokemon Tournament", a Pikmin trophy would be given out, assuring that a huge amount of players show up to duel for the prize. Taking advantage of this, Nintendo could stream ads onto billboards in the stadium for new games, products, or whatever, and they would been seen by a large number of people. It seems like quite the marketing scheme to me.

I believe that taking the Pokemon formula and applying it to a MMORPG is a great idea. It would satisfy Pokemon fans, MMORPG fans, and people who just want an online game from Nintendo. I do not like Pokemon at all, but I would be very interested in something like this. What do you guys think?

If you compare Halo to Metroid Prime graphically (as is often done), I think Metroid Prime is the winner overall.  Halo has some amazing geometry, nice models, and textures like I've never seen @_@, but Prime has just as nice geometry, better models, excellent textures, that extra level of polish not seen anywhere else, and it runs at a ROCK-SOLID 60 fps. When I think about Halo graphically, the first thing that comes to mind is how often the framerate dipped. The last level was the worst; I'm guessing 15-20 fps. It was almost unplayable. Metroid Prime flawlessly brings all of the elements that make a graphically impressive game together.

Nintendo Gaming / Eternal Darkness Request
« on: February 14, 2003, 12:58:24 PM »
I just moved and haven't hooked up everything yet (TV, surround sound, etc), but I will try and see what I can do for you when I get the time. I planned on capturing the Eternal Darkness music anyway.

If you need it immediately, don't wait on me. I don't know how long it will be.
