Nintendo Gaming / RE:"The Trouble With Nintendo"
« on: December 21, 2003, 09:20:02 AM »
What I'm saying is they could make some ORIGINAL mature games/franshises. A fps, a fighting game, an action adventure game, rpg.....anything? Like it or not their are a lot of people out there who think blood and guts are cool. Ever heard of gta. I didn't think this was a good game but I liked the idea of just being able to go around shooting people and what not. Personally I don't really consider the level of gore when I'm thinking about buying a game, in fact none of the games I've played recently have any gore whatsoever. I'm more concerned with the style and look of a game, I tend to like stuff with a harder darker look and feel than anything nintendo would make. I'm happy with my gamecube but I think I'd be happier knowing nintendo might make something that isn't kiddie looking sometime...I just don't feel like they're making any new franchises and if they do it will involve flowers or be incredibly easy.

Mario that was one of the smartest posts I've ever seen in here. Wow. I would just like to mention that in the beginning gc game ads were terrible imo. The one that sticks out in my mind is mario sunshine, it was so bad that it made me not even want to try the game, which I later ended up buying and liking. Their ads are better now but still are outshined by x-box imo.  Ian Sane, you're post was extremely smart too darn what's going on here did the world's intelligence suddenly increase. I likewise am tired of people saying gore is bad. It depends on the game, I mean gore works for some games like say perfect dark. That game had great blood effects and it added to the gameplay, it made it funner. Mouse_clicker I realize that you were saying gore just for the sake of sales, and I don't have a problem with that statement but Nintendo seems to have a policy that there can't be any gore in any of their games which I think is pretty weak. Gamecube definitely doesn't have enough exclusive mature games, it practically doesn't have any. Making a few good mature games wouldn't compromise the other stuff Nintendo does, it would only give the console more variety.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How hardcore are you?
« on: December 14, 2003, 08:28:14 PM »
How do you equate being hardcore with buying nintendo only games. To me that's not what being a hardcore gamer means, that's being a fanboy. Some of my games are exclusive and some of them aren't but I don't really pay attention to that because it doesn't matter. You should of said how much of a hardcore fanboy are you. I'm not a fanboy and everyone has their own definition of what "hardcore" means. Some might think of it as how good you are, some think of it as how much you play, some think of it as how much passion you have. I tend to think of it as all 3. I want nintendo to do well but at the end of the day I just want to play good games.

Technically you could say the game is a button masher, I mean you do mash the buttons a lot. I just find it to be incredibly fun. But like that other dude said there is a lot of skill involved especially on the higher difficulities. For example I was playing with my brother today and he kept dying because he hasn't mastered the combinations or blocking so I pretty much had to do everything. The game can make you feel like you're part of a huge epic battle and that's what I find so awesome about it. For the kind of game it is, it's exeremely well done.

It's called an A/V switchbox, Lucifer.  Don't get me wrong, I think Nintendo will be making a big mistake if their next console isn't backwards compatible, but it's nothing that will affect us Gamecube owners personally.

I'm not that sophisticated. But you have a point, it can be done.

I hope you can play as more characters.

You can play as faramir, merry, pippin, frodo, sam, gandalf, legalos, gimli, and Aragorn. The first 4 you have to unlock by beating the game I think. But the first time through you can only use certain characters for certain levels.

You personally shouldn't be upset- you can play your Gamecube games on your Gamecube. I do agree that the N5 needs to be backwards compatible, though- that was a huge selling point for the PS2.

I am playing my gamecube but I want it to be back-compatible cause I miss some previous gen. games and it's a pain in the butt to unhook gc, hook up n64 and so on and so forth. Plus I like my gc so much that if their next console isn't back-compatible I might just never buy another console. I don't think graphics can get much better anyway, it's all about having a huge library of games now. Oh and my threat about not buying the next console.....I'm bluffing.

You can complain about the mini-disks all you want but if nintendo's next console isn't backwards compatible I'm going to be very freaken upset. That's really the only thing that concerns me. About the dvd thing, I just don't think anyone buys a console for a dvd player. If I wanted a dvd player I'd go buy a dvd player. Who doesn't already have a dvd player anyway. It's a waste to put one on a console imo. About online play, isn't that what pc's are for. I don't care 1 cent about online play and I don't think many people do either. I like nintendo's approach in just making a console for games that is affordable. About the color purple though, you've got to be out touch with everything on this earth to make your console purple. What were they thinking?

Well if you didn't like The Two Towers then no you wouldn't like it. I'm surprised that you disliked it so much though. My post isn't a review so why would would it be in the review section. Wow the people on this board seem pretty apathetic about this truly awesome game. I don't get it. Ah....but actually I do get it.

Nintendo Gaming / Return of the King anyone???
« on: December 09, 2003, 04:13:02 PM »
First let me say that this game just blew me away... which hasn't happened in quite a while. They took everything from the two towers and improved upon it. Most importantly they gave the fans what they wanted. Want to be gandalf? Okay now you can be. Want co-op? You got it. The two towers was a good game to rent but not necessarily worth buying, I think this game is a must own though. It has great music (it's from the movies, so the game can't really take redit for that), great level design, more characters to play, better graphics etc... Once you go through the game and get all leveled up you can go back through the earlier levels and just annihilate everyone. It's fun. I think it's one of the best games ever and I haven't even played the co-op mode yet (I will shortly). I just wanted to give this game some much deserved praise and recomend it to anyone who hasn't played it. It's hella good.

I can't see why everyone thinks this game is so good. I tried playing it but all it did was give me a headache, i didn't find it fun at all. It was slow, uninteresting and unexciting. I tried sticking with it for a bit but i just got annoyed. Could someone please tell me what makes this game so good and whether or not it gets better. This is the first game i've heard good things about then not liked myself. Please tell me what you think and don't be afraid to criticise

I pretty much felt the same thing you did. I found this game to be terrible to point of being annoying. I thought RE was a lot better than this game and I don't care much for RE. In conclusion, NO not everyone thinks this game is good.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Super Smash Brothers? What's the big deal?
« on: December 08, 2003, 02:34:22 PM »
I didn't really get it when I first played it but you have to learn the moves before it get's good. Once you master the controls it becomes the most strategic and well balanced fighting game ever made, not to mention the funnest imo. There's tons of stuff to unlock and well....figure it out.

I actually thought on-foot missions were pretty good. People who are saying they are terrible are being a little too picky, I'm picky myself and I liked em so what gives. They're not perfect but they are so short and easy how can you complain about them. They don't hold up the game at all. Oh and the jumping animation is hilarious.

Try holding an m-16 running at full speed and aiming, it's not going to work. Just jogging it's going to be extremely hard to hit anything that's not right in front of you let alone moving sideways (strafing) and aiming. People who make fps's need to get a clue. Ge/pd had it about right.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Time Splitters 2.........How good is it?
« on: December 01, 2003, 10:53:21 AM »
I was just used to being able to hold down L or R and aim all around and you can't do that you gotta like move the c stick and and walk a certain direction just to aim somewhere and I found this quite annoying and impractical, plus walking around just seemed kind of herky jerky like the screen would bump up slightly then bump up down when you stop which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The guns and character models seemed kinda cartoony which I don't like either. That's as good an explantion I can give as to why I don't like it. Pd really slows down on the villa level on co-op but besides that I never thought the framerate was a problem.

Well I beat the level and in case anyone is wondering there is a time limit in the final room on normal difficulty so you have to kill the guys quickly.

I agree with ib2kool4u912 that pd is the best fps ever, golden eye did have better levels and level design but overall I like pd because of more blood, bodies stay and floor, way more weapons, and better multi-player with bots plus the ultimate Co-op mode. Most of all I liked the simple and effective control scheme of pd/ge and find myself not really getting the control scheme of modern fps's I've tried. Besides it's not realistic to be able to aim while running all around, you should only be able to aim while standing still or walking backwards. Just my opinion.

Personally I thought the game sucked. The aiming is awful and I didn't like the graphics either, or anything else about the game. Pretty much thought the play control was terrible and it doesn't compare to ge/pd in my opinion, it's just a cheap imitation. And there's no blood which takes the fun out of shooting anyone. I don't know how you could go from playing pd to playing this and be happy, pd is superior in every way. Most people seem to think it's great though so you should try it out definitely.

On the king of the dead in the final room I'm killing all the guys but then rocks will just fall on me out of nowhere. I'm playing on normal difficulty and I'm assuming that in the final room there is a time limit though it doesn't say anything about a time limit and there is no clock. I thought I had beaten the level and then bang rocks fall on me, man that's annoying. Help meeeee

This might be a dumb question but how exactly do you get the zelda collection disk? Has it come out yet? I heard something about subscribing to nintendo power but I don't know when. I got to have it.
