General Gaming / Will there be a Spaceworld show this year?
« on: May 08, 2003, 11:01:53 AM »
Darc, here's the quote from a Gamespot article about Spaceworld this year.  It was mentioned in the Pilotwings story.  Here's the article text:

"GameSpot has learned that Factor 5, the development team behind the Rogue Squadron and Rogue Leader games for the Nintendo 64 and GameCube, is indeed working on a new Pilotwings game for the GameCube. While Nintendo has no official comment, the game is expected to be shown in some form either at E3 or at Nintendo's Space World conference, which will be held in August.

We'll post more as it becomes available."

Some people are saying it was just a mental hiccup on Gamespot's part, though.  I'm guessing we'll know if it's true or not soon enough, one way or another.  If Nintendo starts saying "wait until Spaceworld" when being asked questions at E3, that will certainly solidify it.

Nintendo has confirmed a new Zelda game for GBA several times.  In fact, it is confirmed again in the June issue of EGM in an interview with Miyamoto from the D.I.C.E. Summit a while back.  Here's what he said:

"[Capcom] actually went into planning on this right after finishing [Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages for Game Boy Color].  It will probably be something close to the graphics of Four Swords and will use the same style of camera we've had throughout the Zelda series.  I think we'll be able to launch it within about a year or so."

As far as what the silhouette of Soul Calibur II Link from Nintendo Power is, I have no idea.  It's obviously not referring to SCII, since they've already put pics of that in the magazine.  It could be a new GC Zelda game, a spinoff, a new SSB game, or maybe something else entirely (or perhaps none of the above, and they're just messing with our heads by putting that silhouetted Link in there to begin with ).

The bottom line is that we don't know and may have to wait until E3 to find out.  It's only two weeks away now, though!

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda: Wind Waker Screen Saver
« on: March 23, 2003, 08:51:50 PM »
This is definitely right up there with the best screensavers I've ever seen.  The only other one as cool as this one that I can recall is a Matrix one where you input your name before you start it up and it proceeds to output the same text to the screen as in the movie when they first contact Neo, such as "Follow the White Rabbit", etc., except your name replaces "Neo" in each instance.  Then it goes to a screen with all of those weird encrypted characters phasing in and out of the screen--you can even see the letters of your name in it!  It's really neat, trust me.

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Remakes... COME ON NINTENDO!
« on: March 23, 2003, 08:42:06 PM »
Excellent points all around, Gibdo.  The younger generation of gamers today don't really know the history and roots of the Metroid series.  Needless to say, it's one of my favorite game series along with Mario and Zelda.  I think, at the very least, Nintendo needs to port the first three games to GBA and at least improve the graphics and sound as well as add a battery save to the original game, complete with save points.  They should put the first two games on one cart, release it, then release Super Metroid (one of the best games ever made, period, imho) on a second cart a few months after that a la the Super Mario Advance series.  They could also put in a few extras on there, like maybe some galleries and/or some extra backstory details to help tie all the games together more cohesively.

It says so in the Gamers.com story that I already posted a link to near the beginning of this thread, but I'll link to it again for you here.  There is also a link to the story on PGC's home page.

I can't link to the Gamers.com story right now because their site is apparently down, so I can't get to it.  The story was on the main page, though.  Here is a link to a scanned page of the EGM mag that I just found, though:  EGM "Next Month" page scan

I received the May issue of EGM today in the mail, and in the "Next Month" section it says they will have a full preview of it in the June issue.  Gamers.com has also confirmed the Factor 5 game to be in development.

General Gaming / Scared by the Ps2 lineup at E3
« on: March 13, 2003, 06:40:37 PM »
Sir Daniel, I assume you lifted this straight from IGN PS2's "Games of 2003" feature.  After perusing said list, if's blatantly obvious that it is neither a list of games that are confirmed to necessarily be released on PS2 in 2003 (quite a few have 2004 beside them), nor is it a list of PS2 games grounded in reality, period..  Take Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5 as just two examples.  These games are just rumors at this point in the game, and even if they WERE coming to PS2, they may not be exclusive anyway, or may not even come to the console at all.  IGN PS2's so-called "Games of 2003" feature should have, in reality, be named "Our PS2 Wish List of Games" or something similar, because, quite frankly, that's exactly what it is.  If I were you, I'd take this list with a grain of salt.

Now, concerning how this stacks up against Nintendo's E3 lineup: there are already lots of great GCN games that we know will be shown at E3 as well as many that we don't yet know about.  Nintendo likes to hold its cards very close to its proverbial chest, so I'm certain they've got quite a few big surprises in store for us at E3.

So what's the bottom line?  Ignore this list, wait until E3 to see what's REALLY shown, and THEN decide for yourself who has the better showing.  In the meantime, go play some great games.

Nintendo Gaming / More delays....
« on: March 11, 2003, 06:44:14 PM »
In case you hadn't heard, Nintendo.com has changed the release dates back to the original ones of June 23 for F-Zero and May 26 for Wario World.  What does it all mean?

Nintendo Gaming / F-Zero not delayed!

Very true.  That wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Michael, Nintendo.com had the later dates on both F-Zero and Wario World, but they've changed them BOTH back to the original dates of June 23 and May 26, respectively.

Nintendo Gaming / Xenosage, any chance for the Cube?
« on: March 10, 2003, 06:16:43 PM »
Guys, Sean's right on this one.  A cutscene is typically defined as a non-interactive interruption of gameplay that advances the story.  A cutscene can be anything from still images with text a la the NES Ninja Gaiden games to full-blown video sequences that are typically used in today's games, whether they are rendered by the in-game engine (as seen in Zelda or Metroid Prime) or they are pre-rendered FMV clips like in Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, etc.  I hope that clarifies things a bit.

General Gaming / WHAT ON EARTH? This can't be true. PS3 THIS YEAR?
« on: March 10, 2003, 04:40:47 PM »
I absolutely REFUSE to believe this until I see hard evidence.  It just doesn't make any sense to release it now, what with PS2's huge market lead and especially since they're still supposedly developing Cell.

We'll see.

Please tell me what the above post has to do with discussing Gamecube.  Perhaps you should read the TOS again (or read it for the first time, as the case may very well be).  Rick would have locked this topic on the spot if he were around, you know.

So you're saying you don't believe NOE, Miyamoto, the Konami board administrator, who works for Konami itself, and  this news story???  I don't really know how much more official you can get than that, barring an official press release.

Nintendo Gaming / Metal Gear Solid for GameCube

In case anyone was wondering what the Konami board admin's post was, here it is:

"I can tell you that YES, just as Mr. Miyamoto stated, a metal gear game for the GC is in development, but honestly, that is all the info that is available. But this is what I was talking about when I said I can't wait for E3 (I dont know what info we will have there but there should be some more by then I would guess), and believe me, you guys can't wait either! So i know its not all of our hit franchises coming to cube, but it is one of our best and hottest ones and a deserving one at that. And who knows, if this game sells what it should, you may get your Castlevania and Contra yet!"

i said it b4 and i'll say it again, i think zelda will flop state side!!!

What an ignorant, fanboyish statement (to say nothing of your atrocious spelling and capitalization).

Since you've obviously been living in a cave the past few weeks, I'll inform you of what's been going on concerning Zelda.  The Wind Waker sold over 250,000 copies BEFORE the official pre-order campaign started last week.  Heck, we're still an entire month shy of the release as of now!  This game will most likely be Nintendo's biggest GC seller to date, and will probably top 1 million copies in North America before it's all said and done.

Also, Famitsu gave it the fourth perfect score (40/40) in the history of the magazine, and it was EGM's Game of the Month in the latest issue, garnering two 10s and a 9.5.

One more thing--perhaps you should wait until you play through the game before making such rash, immature judgments, and maybe, just maybe, you shouldn't worry about what others think.

I sincerely hope I've been successful at snapping you back into reality.

Nintendo Gaming / Have the Gamecube SD cards been confirmed a no-go?
« on: February 23, 2003, 08:57:10 PM »
Well, there's always E3 to look toward, but since there's been no mention of the SD cards or the SD adapter since their original unveiling at Spaceworld 2000, I wouldn't hold my breath.  Maybe they'll do something similar for the next console, however.

Scyth3r:  Miyamoto has mentioned a game that apparently really takes advantage of the GC-GBA link-up, and it will be shown at E3, so look out for it then.  Less than 3 months to go....

Is it just me or would showing Nintendo commercials during Dateline and ER be a great idea.  At first I was kidding, but now that I've typed that, I think that showing commercials like that to the demographic that, by and large, watches those sorts of shows (a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE audience) would actually be beneficial.  Okay, probably not.

Sean, I completely agree here.  The only reason I don't think Nintendo is doing things such as this is because they're still being conservative with their advertising budget.  I'd also be willing to bet just one ad during ER (or Friends, Survivor, etc.) costs a good chunk of change, as they are among the highest-rated shows on network TV.
