Kudos on adding a cover for the nun chuck port for when you are not using it.

Best of all, it was free!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Is Nintendo Creating Lapsed Wii Gamers?
« on: October 05, 2007, 03:21:16 PM »
I will admit that I am a lapsed gamer

I bought the wii with high hopes.  Im glad at the sucess it has been having, but disappointed with the current game line up.  I know its the first year, but still...

When I bought my Wii, I also bought Zelda.  At the time I was in college, so Wii Sports was permanently stuck in my Wii for drinking games.  Zelda never got much play.  I bought Wario Ware thinking another party game that my friends wcould play when we pre-game to go out.  They didn't "get" it.  I think they were just completely weirded out.  Fastforward to this fall,  I bought Super Mario Strikers Charged.  I played a little of it, its fun.  Online is pretty cool, but leaves much to be desired.

The light at the end of the tunnel for me is Smash Brothers.  That and Mario Kart are probably the reason I even bought a console in this gen in the first place.

All the games I have bought and intend to buy are first party.  I think Third party just is not pumping out the quality games that they need to in order to sell the numbers that they want.  I also think the Wii is inundated with party games because they are cheap and easy to make.  Devs just want a quick buck out of these games and thats why they lack real substance.  Again, I know its still been less than a year.  But I dont even see anything of true substance in the near future.

Also the Wii's RPG line up is dreadfull, which dissapoints me.

First Party Nintendo games are always great because Nintendo always produces quality, its one of the reasons why I have grown up with the Nintendo systems all the way back to my NES back in the day.  Third Party games just have left me very skeptical, especially in the recent past.  Hence, I dont think third party games are gonna sell well unless they inspire people to go out and buy it.  Only way that is happening is through producing a quality game.

yeah I have to agree.  Initially, I wasn't too excited for this game.

The Online Aspect seems awesome.  I can't wait for the 2v2 co-op, that sounds like so much fun.  Hopefully, it will live up to expectations.

Pittboi for President

Amen brother, amen...

I agree with everything he has pretty much said.  His "negativity" only shows how he cares for the company.  He wants whats best for Nintendo as we all do.  I do have to agree with him, I think Nintendo could make small changesthat would significantly increase its online appeal.

If any company can make people care about online it's Nintendo, no doubt.

Step One:  SSB:B with online support...

I got my back over thanksgiving break while I was home (Black Friday).

I spent like 15 minutes calling the Gamestops in my area (there are 6 within 5 miles of my house).  Anyways, my brother an I went and camped out an hour early at two different gamestops.  I was the 8th person in line and he was the 5th person in line.  Luckily, my store got 9 consoles and his got 6.  So we both ended up walking away with Wiis.  Sold the other one to our younger cousin whose parents wouldnt take him to camp out.  Karma ^^.  I know arround here (the DC/maryland suburbs), you can find Wiis you just have to show a little initiative.  Call the Gamestops by you like twice a day at different times for like 3 days, you will find out when the shipments are coming trust me.

The Danger in getting info from only one person is that they can be BSing you.  On Launch, my Walmart by school told me they weren't open for launch.  I showed up the next morning early (was the only one), I'm thinkin' this can't be right.  Get in, go to electronics, the lady laughs at me and says they sold out last night.  Moral of the story, don't listen to just one person.

My suggestion would just be to show initiative and then go early before they open.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii Remote Shortage
« on: December 12, 2006, 07:53:46 PM »
call me lucky, but where I go to college there is a gamestop and a walmart.  Its a small little town in upstate new york.  I'm normally from maryland.  Anyways when Wii came out, I was back home for thanksgiving break.  I couldnt find a wiimote or nunchuck to save my life.  When I went back to school, there were tons of them at walmart.  I didn't buy four because alltogether they are like 60 bones a pop, and I really only need two for Wii Sports right now.  My dad ended up ordering another one off the internet for chistmas.  I'm sure I'll pick up another one by the time SSB:B is released, but obviously there is no rush.

I may come off sounding stupid here

But could DQIX even have used the full capacity of PS3?  Not that it really matters if they did.

DQ has never been all about pushing the envelope on graphics like the main FF series has.  DQVIII's graphics were great imo (and i would rather see it than what DE does with the realism in FF).  With that said, it seems to me that the cell shaded, DBZ syle of Akira can only go so far before it needs something else.  PS3 gives DQ9 what?  Size for a huge story? which it doesnt need because there is a point where games are too long.  Graphics? which I dont think is what DQ has ever been about?  User base?  This remains to be seen.

Other than those three things, I don't see where PS3 has an advantage over any other console in where it would have gotten DQ9.  The move to DS was amazingly smart.

Also, should we have expected this?  someone said that DS wasn't even on the radar. Though it is a handheld, it does have a large user base.  Also, we knew about DQ:Swords for Wii, would they necessarily produce two games (one spin off, and one flagship) for an unproven console?  I think DQ:Swords will be the real question as to SE's support of Wii.  I agree that I hope it isnt a huge joke like CC, but I think if we support it and show that people on the Wii want and will support RPGs and games like this, I think they will make their move towards more support.

sold me for being dumb and kind of trying to derail this topic -- not intentional -- I didn't want to start a new topic for a rumor that involves SE.

but i read somewhere that SE may have an  of Mana MMO in the mix for Wii, and I think the site said it got its info from Famitsu.  Whether any of this is true, I don't know.

I mean this can't be true, or I died and went to heaven....

Nintendo Gaming / GC Memory card problem
« on: December 09, 2006, 01:04:55 PM »
So my roomate loves playing Mario Kart Doube Dash.

Problem is my GC memory cards aren't getting recognized by my Wii.  In game it keeps asking me to sinser a memory card into slot A, but one is in there and its fully in.  Its first party, and it works with my gamecube.  In the memory management section, it doesnt recognize them either.

Anyone else having these problems?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Super Smash Bros. Brawl
« on: December 07, 2006, 04:00:37 PM »
what's with everyone's megaman fixation?

Nintendo should only allow 3rd PT characters from companies that stuck through them thick and thin.  Companies like SE and plenty of others should never be considered.  I would hope Nintendo would have more pride than that.  As for Snake, Konami gave GCN a bone with snake eater.  Nintendo is probably repaying them in some way with this.

In terms of characters:
I don't have many ideas that haven't already been thrown out there.

Maybe the Frog Boss from Super Mario II as a Bowser Clome.

Paratrooper/Koopa Troopa

Maybe Wolf Link with that Goblin on top of him (TP is still unopened lol -- Wii Spots pwns too much for drinking games)

Like I said I don't have many. I'm trying to think back to my NES days and I can't get the horrible mental images of Star Voyager out of my mind.

Anyways, I hope they make SSB:B A LOT closer to the original.  I am sure that I am in the extreme minority here, but I was very disappointed in Melee.  Everything they did was great, but the gameplay seemed off.  It was too fast and smashy (I know that sounds stupid).  The original seemed way more strategic like if you were playing chess.  Melee just seemed to require less skill because someone could always catch you with a c-stick smash. which.... takes no skill.

Anyways if their is online and Luigi has his own moves and isnt just a mario clone, my pants will be tight.

I know this doesn't involve the Wii directly.  But PS3 is Wii's competition, its failures is our success.

guys I am having some problems with printing the DVD inserts from TheCoverProject.   Everytime I print it ends up on 4 or 5 pages.   I tried shrinking it down to like 25% of its original size and i got something that is decent but not nice.   I have been using MSPaint to print, because I dont have any other Paint type program.   If anyone has any solutions, I would be much appreciative.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Problem: Shakey pointer
« on: November 24, 2006, 08:14:40 PM »
Just an update

When i played Wii sports and Zelda, the problem was non existent

Night time, no glare etc, seemed to help but only  little.   Moving closer and more towards the center of the LED receiver didnt really help.

Slowing down the speed of the pointer seemed to help an incredible ammount.  It still shakes more than when I first got it, but not as bad as before i slowed it down a little.

Anyways, other people please post if you have noticed something similar.

my dad is watching TV right now

I tried it before i went shopping for a phone when it was dark.  The glare and the windows were not the problem.

I was laying on my couch which is to the left of my TV a little, so I'll try and move closer to the middle and see if that fixes it.

I don't think it is a sensitivity thing because it was working fine before.

It usually acts up when it is rotated to the side.

Okay so I picked up a Wii this morning from Gamestop (showed up an hour early and was 8th for 9 consoles).

Anyways I got home and started playing at 7:30.  It was awesome, everything was working perfectly.  Controllers are sold out everywhere, so my cousins who also got one today come over and bring their controller.  Try out some multiplayer Wii spots, lovin' it.

Okay so around 4:00pm my remote starts acting funny.  I am having hard time holding it in one place without it shaking all over the place.  Its still functioning but it shakes, not a lot but its noticible.  Its easily possible to miss the bars/buttons you want to click on.

When i read the manual, it said to be wary of setting up your sensor bar in places that get glare or light reflection.  My TV has a window on either side of it and a painting with glass over it behind it.  Not to mention behind it my kitchen window usually lets in a lot of light directly on to the TV.

My question is:  Is that enought to completely screw up the sensor bar?  Also, why wasn't it screwing up before unless maybe sunset was causing more glare than usual?   I'll wait till after sunset and try and again.  If its fixed i'll post back.  Anyways, if anyone has any similar experiences let me know.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:RPGs and Wii
« on: November 08, 2006, 09:26:57 AM »
Wow guys, thanks for all the info so far.  It's really been helpful.

So most of the franchised titles are still up in the air?  Icecold said SE wasn't looking to be so tight with Sony as it was with PS2?  That's amazing news!

Like Couchmonkey said Fire Emblem is a lock (also Pokemon), but that's a given.

No one has any idea where some of the major franchises are going?
Final Fantasy post XII
Dragon Warrior
Tales
.Hack
Ogre Battle
Breath of Fire
Star Ocean
Suikoden
Phantasy Star
to name only a few

It seems like its genrally well known that Nintendo is trying to get in good with Konami and Sega.  Also, on the topic of the SE thing.  All their good games are going to Nintendo's handhelds!!!  I mean i appreciate the effort with Crystal Chronicle, but we all know SE is capable of producing much much better?  When do you think Nintendo will stand up to them and say "If you want to keep raking in money hand over fist with our hand helds, you better start producing top notch games for our other consoles!".

Anyways two more questions:

1.) What are the chances of Wii being able to support a MMORPG such as with PS2 and FFXI?  Could these games even go cross-platform as with FFXI on computer, PS2 and Xbox360?  It seems like without a hard drive, this would be impossible.  I thought I read somewhere that the GC had slots for a removable harddrive, but it was never actually produced or utilized.  Any chance we see something like that for the Wii?  Or maybe the 8gig SD card?  Its flash memory right?  Maybe that could be used to store data like updates on a game.

2.) Last question, do you think Nintendo will try to incorporate their handhelds into the Wii?  Some games like Crystal Chronicle used Gameboys as actual controllers.  In many other games, they were used to unlock secrets, etc.  They have been doing this even back to the days of the N64?  If they did decide to go this route, would it be DS + future hanhelds  only?

Nintendo Gaming / RPGs and Wii
« on: November 07, 2006, 05:54:05 PM »
I am a huge RPG fan, ever since the original NES.  Obviously, SNES was the zenith of RPGs and Nintendo.  Too many classics to even try to list.  However, we had a serious let down with the N64 and another subsequent letdown with GC.

I mean there have been some note worthy games on each system, but they pale in comparison to what is out there.  I don't want to start a zomg!PS2 has so many RPGs thread by any means.

However, I haven't really kept up with Wii.  In fact, I haven't really played much console games for awhile, i have been addicted to MMORPGs (namely FFXI).  Anyways after two years of FFXI, I started to look back at the next Gen systems.  I have always been a Nintendo Fanboy,  I grew up with the brand.  The Wii has me really excited in terms of what it can do.

However as everyone knows, everything esentially comes down to software, meaning the games themselves.  Consoles' harwarde means nothing if it isn't utilized effectively to produce a fun, entertaining, and appealing game on an overall level.

As RPGs tend to be my main interest,  I had a few questions to those who have been following Wii longer than I have.

1.)  I know their is Zelda (not really RPG, but awesome in its own right, a working Dragon Quest Title, a working Fire Emblem Title, a Crystal Cronicle sequal.  Is there anything else sceduled for this genre of games?

2.)  Obviously somewhere between the switch from SNES to N64 and the rise of Playstation, Nintendo lost a lot, a lot of third party support (especially in the RPG arena).  I know Nintendo has actively worked to ally itself with Sega and Konami, and even repaired relations slightly with SquareEnix.  However, have they done anything at all to bring home some more heavy hitters back to their console?  Hopefully brining back some of the classic named franchises.  Obviously, i'm looking for more RPG companys here, but any info on the old school companys would be awesome.

3.)  I played Golden Sun I and II for Gameboy, and there was always rumors of a Golden Sun game being produced for Gamecube.  With the twilight of the gamecube coming, is there any chance this series could be resurrected or has it been forgotten?

4.)  I know that at launch, there are no online compatible cames (though I wish Wii Sports was, maybe in a future version I guess).  When can we expect some?  Do we know anything about Nintendo's Online strategy in terms of these games?  Will they be pay to play?  If so, to the companies or to Nintendo itself?

5.)  Lastly, I have Phantasy Star Online for Gamecube, and briefly played it online with my broadband modem.  Since Wii is backwards compatible, is there any chance it could still be played online?  Also I saw an advertisement on a Phantasy Star Universe Site that said it would be on all major consoles, but didn't list Wii, gamecube, or even PS3(which sorta makes sense since its on PS2).

6.)  Does anyone know or even can speculate whats in this obscenely expensive gamestop/ebgames preorder bundle?

Anyways, thanks for any information you guys could provide.  Would love the Input.

Nintendo Gaming / Dilema over Games
« on: April 05, 2003, 02:08:44 PM »
I'm at Sort of a Dilema here on what game to get.  While some may say this is a pole, I guess it could be considered that.  But I'm more looking for some constructive information about the two games, maybe some opinions, which while hopefully lead me to selecting the best game.

I just bought Yugi-Oh Eternal Duelist Soul Last week because my brother had it too and he liked it a lot.  So I tried it out and got hooked.  I found out that Yugi-Oh Stairway to Destined Duel World Wide edition is coming out next week or so, and I am hesitant over If I should get it.  I know the people will say "Umm Dude! We haven't played it either how could we know?!"  But I know virtually nothing about this game, so any information on it would be greatly appreciated it.

Also, One of my friends from school recently picked up a copy of Pokemon: Saphire.  At first, I will admit I was a little reluctant.  I used to play Red and Blue, but I kind of got pissed at the newer versions cause i felt they were part of some milking of the franchise, which I don't find cool at all::cough cough Final Fantasy 7+ cough:: ((sorry had to let that out, keep in mind i leave an exception for Crycstal Chronicle cause its not the stale FF)).  Anyways back to my story.  I have a link cable so I could play my brother in Eternal Duelist, but I could also use that to play with my friend from school If I were to pick up Ruby, and perhaps complete everything in the game, If I couldnt get all the Pokemon I doubt I would get it.  So again, I have not been following this game at all, and I know virtually nothing about it.  Can you transfer information from Red/Blue to the Ruby/Saphire?  My friend said it seemed like there wasnt enough room in the game to get the original ones, i.e. Charmander, like there were not enough areas.  How can you get them if you can't transfer?

**By the way, Nintendo systems are known as "uncool" in my school, but that is definately starting to change thanks to Wind Waker and SP, God I Love Nintendo**
