I don't care to adapt. I like the old controls better. My reasoning for liking them is completely irrelevant. If they want to give me access to the code, I could literally add my control scheme in a matter of minutes. Dropping this control scheme for no reason isn't just lazy, it's unjustifiable.

Glad to hear you've "adapted" though. I forgot how horrible options were...

Correct, unless they have Goldeneye/PD control schemes. And no, I won't adapt. It's absurd that they wouldn't include the original controls.

Seriously I wish I had realized before I bought this that NO classic controls were included at all. I can't even play the game now - what a goddamn waste of money.

Down here in Tampa, I had a similar situation. The clerk refused to give me the disc and after I argued with him a bit, he eventually just caved and gave it to me as if it were a bag of illicit drugs.

I'd have to imagine that GameStop at a corporate level is pushing this behavior and maybe a handful of honest clerks who know better are doing the right thing and giving out the free disc ... for free.

Thanks Dr. Nick, please post a link when it's ready!

You got it: http://pixlbit.com/reviews?action=showReview&reviewId=99

Overall, both Chessa and I agreed. Unless you are a major fan of the series I wouldn't suggest importing. Just grab one of the other games in the series. It'll be cheaper and the experience will undoubtedly be more enjoyable.

Just tell Microsoft you got the red ring, at this point they don't even check anymore. A while back the GPU on mine seemed to die and I called MS all pissed demanding to get my Xbox fixed for free. I eventually got on the phone with a manager who informed me that my machine was actually suffering from a red ring error (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) and that all I had to do is "confirm it" for him by attempting to turn on the system.

So yeah, I'd just call them up, tell them it's a red ring and ship it out. Come to think of it, the same thing just happened to my brother's and he just got it back yesterday with no issue.

TalkBack / Re: INTERVIEWS: Riivolution and Fatal Frame Translation
« on: February 04, 2010, 03:32:40 PM »
Awesome interview. I was wondering myself how these guys figured out this whole crazy structure to patching the game. Funny to hear that they basically poured over the hex code to get it done.

I appreciate the work to get it done, but as far as Fatal Frame games go, I'm not a huge fan of this one. The control issues are infuriating, and it's dissuading me from continuing.

If the team is reading this, are the controls easily patchable to use the Classic Controller or GameCube controller rather than the wonky Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls?

I've been playing this with the patch. Overall, the patch is well done but still has a bit of awkward English here or there. The game itself does leave something to be desired. I'd say it's worse than 2 and 3, but better than 1. The controls are really awful, and the ghost AI seems a bit underdeveloped almost as if the developers were compensating for the horrible controls.

I just got up to the third chapter and you get to use this Spirit Stone Flashlight in place of the camera and it's far and away the best part of the game thus far. Basically you use it similarly to the camera except you charge it up by holding a button and then discharge it and "kill" the ghosts. I'm not sure if the tool will exist beyond this chapter (each chapter you play as a different person) but I'm definitely enjoying it while its here.

For those interested, either Chessa or myself will be throwing a review up on PixlBit sometime this week.

Wow, congrats guys!

Awesome to see NWR getting some big name cred at PAX.

General Gaming / Re: I Know the Game is Garbage but I'm Buying It Anway
« on: January 17, 2010, 09:42:33 PM »
D_Average, DO NOT BUY THAT GAME unless it costs like $5. I have not a single fond memory of my time with it.

Ahaha.  I know.  But I just can't help myself.  I just can't wrap my head around how the guys at Left Field Productions could fall so far.  Perhaps there was a big shift in staff when the company bought their share back from Nintendo, and the real talent when on to Codemasters.  Either way, like a trainwreck, I've just got to see it for myself, assuming the price is right of course....

While Nitrobike isn't the world's greatest game, I kinda like it. Of course I only paid $5 for it, so there's not buyer's remorse, but all in all I thought it was a decent game.

Best of luck, Sophia. You were definitely one of my good friends here in the forums and I'm sad to see you go. Hopefully you'll be in and out of here as time goes on and maybe I'll even see you over on PixlBit.

We got a copy of Ju-On in on Monday, we will definitely play at least a few minutes of the game just to show everyone what it's like. I predict that our review will be timed to go up while we are marathoning.

I bumped Silent Hill for Eternal Darkness officially. Also, Chessa will be donning the Klonoa hat.

As for Ju On, we'll probably throw it up there for a bit at some point if the review copy gets here in time.

Alright, your requests have been heard, we are considering replacing Silent Hill with Eternal Darkness, thoughts?

Nick is so perma-banned for this ****.

Crap...

No doubt, Zach. And though St. Jude is our sponsored charity, if you guys would like to donate to another in lieu of, go for it. Giving to any good cause is always a good thing.

General Gaming / PixlBit - Celebrating One Year With a One Night Marathon
« on: October 13, 2009, 02:37:04 PM »

I hate to bump a thread from the dead and pimp stuff, but PixlBit is turning 1 and we're throwing a birthday bash in the form of a PlayBit. In addition to the PlayBit, we'll be doing a simultaneous live podcast of sorts and taking calls. To top it all off, we'll be doing some trivia and giving away E3 swag.

For the games, we'll be playing all Japanese stuff including Custom Robo 64, Doshin the Giant, the Kururin series, Giftpia, Captain Rainbow, Nonono Puzzle Chai-Rian, and Donkey Konga 3.

If you are interested, you can check out the article here and tune in come 7PM EST this Friday (09/24).

----------------

I know that we have rules against shamelessly pimping ****, but I'd like to think that I've perhaps earned the right to do so.

Anyhow, as you guys know, Chessa and I have done a couple marathons here, and have seen some pretty substantial success with them. As such, we are continuing the tradition over at PixlBit.

On October 23 at 6PM EST/3PM PST we are going to start our Halloween Horror Marathon. Unlike past marathons, we are doing this one for St. Jude Children's Hospital.

We'd love the typical crowd from NWR to pop in and chat and watch along while we play Silent Hill, Resident Evil (REmake), and Fatal Frame III. Also, if you have the funds, it would be great of you to give a bit to the foundation as they help children around the world with both their treatment and research.

Hope to see you guys there!

Smart move. I tried to stay as nondescript as possible, because honestly I didn't want to spoil all of the awesome stuff that happens.

So the review just went up if anyone is interested, but I settled on a 5/5. I went back and forth with giving it a 4.5/5, but in reality, this is one of the best games I've played this generation. I'd definitely suggest grabbing this one up if you have the funds. If not, at least rent the damn thing because it's worth the ten hours of your life it'll take you to beat it.
