TalkBack / Oddworld: New and Tasty Screenshots From Wii U Version
« on: August 05, 2015, 03:25:21 PM »

Oddworld is still coming to Wii U.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/40888/oddworld-new-and-tasty-screenshots-from-wii-u-version

Beloved remake Oddworld: New and Tasty was announced for Wii U over two years ago. Today, Oddworld Inhabitants released the first eight screenshots of the Wii U version. This confirms that the game is still coming to Wii U after quietly missing last year’s release on other platforms.

Oddworld: New and Tasty is a complete remake of the original Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. Both games follow the quirky, puzzle-platforming adventures of Abe, a Mudoken trying to save his people from inside an evil meat-packing plant. The remake and the original have been well received on other platforms.

The game’s Support page still lists the Wii U version under development but without a release date.

TalkBack / Mega Man Legacy Collection for 3DS Release Updates
« on: August 05, 2015, 02:05:38 PM »

There will be a Mega Man title on store shelves next year.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/40883/mega-man-legacy-collection-for-3ds-release-updates

The release date for the Nintendo 3DS version of the Mega Man Legacy Collection has been changed to an early 2016 release. It was previously announced as a digital only winter release. A physical copy is now in the works, also with an early 2016 date. Capcom hasn’t stated whether the two will launch together. This will be the first Mega Man title available in stores since 2010’s Mega Man Zero Collection for the Nintendo DS

The Mega Man Legacy Collection contains polished versions of Mega Man 1-6 in a single download. Capcom has added save states, a museum, and an enemy database with Robot Master practice battles. The game also includes online features including leaderboards and replays. It’s currently unclear what features will stay in the 3DS version. The title has been announced for Nintendo 3DS, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

TalkBack / Retro Amiibo 3-Pack Available Through GameStop This Saturday
« on: August 03, 2015, 02:33:11 PM »

We have confirmation of the rumored old school Amiibo package.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/40872/retro-amiibo-3-pack-available-through-gamestop-this-saturday

@Amiibonews on Twitter has confirmed that GameStop will be offering a 3-pack Amiibo bundle featuring Duck Hunt, Mr. Game & Watch, and R.O.B. figures. This bundle will be available in limited quantities for a $5-down minimum instead of the Web-in-Store process used for Wave 4. Doors will open early at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 8th for pre-orders.

The rumor originated on Reddit , stating that early entry would only be available for PowerUp Rewards Pro members, but @amiibonews now claims that early entry will be open to all. The 3-pack is rumored to be a GameStop exclusive with each character available as an individual figure at other retailers. Each store will supposedly have its own allocation of about 30. Any preorders taken over this limit will not be filled. There is nothing to indicate any other Amiibo figures being available for pre-order on Saturday.

A limited number of physical copies will include a special Amiibo card.

The game and New 3DS XL bundle will be available on October 2nd in the UK and on October 3rd in Australia and New Zealand. It was really neat if you wanted to browse Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon at the same time, but I never had all three at once. I don't think it's very common for people to have them all and cable.

TalkBack / Ninja Usagimaru: The Gem of Blessings (3DS) Review
« on: July 24, 2015, 06:26:25 PM »

The hardest puzzle is figuring out why everyone has bunny ears.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/40806/ninja-usagimaru-the-gem-of-blessings-3ds-review

Ninja Usagimaru is a fun little eShop puzzler. I did enjoy my time with it, even though it was way too short.  The game doesn’t try anything too ambitious but accomplishes what it sets out to do.

While wandering through the forest, the games titular protagonist Usagimaru stumbles upon an empty village. A rabbit god informs the ninja that the residents have been kidnapped by evil Mononoke demons! You must save the villagers in the most ninja way possible: by solving block puzzles.

The puzzles themselves are pretty satisfying. Usagimaru needs to crush a certain enemy to free the villager, then lead the villager to the rabbit statue, so cutting off the path behind can be a death sentence. Only a few puzzles rely on platforming abilities, but expect to retry those levels quite a few times. Within the first of the game’s six non-tutorial worlds, you’ll gain half an item from each villager you save. It’s a simple way to ease into deeper mechanics, but these upgrades stop abruptly after the third one.

The difficulty curve in this game is all over the place. If I found myself having to try the same level over and over, the next few levels would be simple and straightforward. I’m not sure if that was by design, but it kept me from getting discouraged. Solving a puzzle made me feel quite clever. At the start, each level looks like an impossible mess, but working my way toward the trapped villager mostly came naturally. Getting the villager to safety without killing her was a bit more difficult. She’s always just a split second behind you, so you’ll control your ninja with slightly different movements while escorting a villager. It’s a subtle difference, but it will kill you a few times.

Seeing a room’s solution in front of me gave me the same sense of excitement as a Pushmo puzzle or a Zelda dungeon, but executing it was much trickier. It was always a bummer if I saw myself drop a block into a pit with no way to get it back up. I did wish for Pushmo’s time rewinding feature more than a few times, but the levels are short enough that a replay didn’t hurt much, unless I kept making the same mistake. Overall, the balance between difficult and straightforward puzzles was excellent.

The story has a set up at the beginning, a single scene in the middle, and a closing at the end. I’m fine with how bare it is, but it was always a surprise when a story scene would show up. The art is good for what it is: the backgrounds are okay, the enemies are each distinct, and the characters are pretty darn adorable. The music builds a bit in each world and is full-blown ninja epic by the end. I did run into a few glitches that wouldn’t let me place blocks when I should be allowed to, but retrying usually fixed it.

At only eight hours, Ninja Usagimaru is a fun little diversion during the annual summer drought. It did leave me wanting more, though. I’d happily pick up a sequel, but I wish this ninja outing would have lasted longer.

The Wii U service never lived up to its potential, anyway.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/40811/nintendo-announces-tvii-is-coming-to-an-end-this-august-in-north-america

The TVii service is no more.

Nintendo announced today via Miiverse that the Wii U’s forgettable TVii service will be discontinued in North America on August 11th, 2015 at 3:00 PM PST. The app has been sitting on North American Wii U systems since shortly after launch. The service was delayed in Europe for years and eventually cancelled.

TVii was marketed as a new way to experience television before the rise of Smart TVs and dedicated streaming boxes. Users could post to Miiverse or Twitter alongside the show’s synopsis, allowing them to comment on plot twists, sports plays, or awards shows in real time. A streamlined guide helped users view live shows or find programs on Nexflix, Hulu Plus, or Amazon Instant Video all in one place. TVii also had a built in IR remote for controlling televisions, sound systems, and set-top boxes. It’s unclear whether or not the remote functions will be discontinued.

TalkBack / Re: Will a New Pokemon Game Show Up at E3 2015?
« on: May 22, 2015, 06:15:37 AM »
I totally think we'll see something, but I don't think it'll be anything big. It might just be a plug for Mystery Dungeon, or we might finally see a bit of Great Detective Pikachu. We haven't gotten a third game in a generation since Platinum almost six years ago, so I don't think we'll see Z. We could see a Kanto remake; it HAS been over ten years since FRLG. I doubt we'll see a new generation, either. The 3DS won't have the same lifespan as the DS, so I think the next gen will be saved for the 4DS or whatever other terrible name we get stuck with.

86
At the end of E3, Nintendo admitted that new Metroid games were being discussed internally. 2D and first person. Yay!

87
I have been waiting all week for this. YES!!! Thank you guys! Please please please try to enjoy E3!

I looked up one of the green stars and totally saw a picture of the final boss. :( I might not be so quick to look up guides anymore. It's like the only spoiler in all if Mario-Dom.

It's Ad man. (Think superhero.) handle since like 2000.

I bought a Vita for a hundred bucks and bought Persona 4, even though I have the PS2 version. I don't regret it, but I haven't seen anything else that interesting. I only really play Nintendo pushed games though.
