« on: March 07, 2010, 09:16:57 PM »
Hello,

I just traded in about 12 DS games and finally got a Nintendo Gamecube.

I got many games, but would like your opinion on what to play through first.

Super Mario Sunshine
Pikmin
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Luigi's Mansion
SSBM: Single Player Mode
MKDD: Grand Prix
Paper Mario: TTYD
Metroid Prime

Thank you.

Yeah, Cory was cool. I like it when the show has guests, though I admit to liking Mailbag more. So often it leads to angry, bitter ranting or galls of laughter.

Usually anger, bitter ranting from James though...

Great show as always guys.

It was nice to hear Chris again, and the retro game collecting segment was very interesting.

Your Pokemon section propelled me towards one goal by next September (PAX Seattle). My goal is to compete in the Pokemon Tournament and actually do well. Some of my friends and my brother own copies, so I've started transferring everything to my game, and I'll rent HG/SS from Gamefly and do the same thing. Are you guys still planning to do a panel at my PAX? It would be great if your panel, this tournament, and the Jonathan Coulton concert were all on the same day.

Great show as always guys. I'm probably the only person on these forums that doesn't have a Wii or GameCube either, but I enjoy listening anyway. I'll probably buy a $30 GameCube eventually, but until then I'll stick with my DS Lite and broken DS Phat signed by the Brain Age guy.

I agree that I don't want to download an emulation of Earthbound. I might try to the Japan GBA version of the Mother games and just get a translation.

My cartridge is gold

Are only some of them like that, sort of like the gold edition of the original game?

Great show as always guys. Even though Crimm's review games have seemed to be all horrible, it always makes a great segment. I listen to the show every week, even if I don't visit the site or the forums that often anymore.

Why wasn't the name "Bomb Zombie" used in this review?  ;)

Your site looks great and I will be frequenting it often now.

Will it just be the four of you for now or are you going to be hiring writers/reviewers in the near future?

Ubisoft told us (NWR) at E3 that Smash Up is compatible with the Classic Controller and 'Cube controller. Hope they didn't remove that. Any new characters in the demo, or was it just the turtles, April, Splinter, and Shredder again?

You could play as every character it seemed, even the Rabbid, whose weapon was the plunger.

Here's what I played:

Cave Story
Zelda Spirit Tracks
Scribblenauts
NFS: Nitro
Split Second
Tatsunoku Vs.
RB Beatles
NSMB Wii
TMNT: Smash Up
and other indie-style games that I can't remember the titles of in the PAX 10. I was the guy in the Sounders shirt with my dad in the neon-green Sounders shirt if anyone noticed.

Is anyone else planning to go to PAX this year?

This will be my first time going, but I can only go on Sunday because of work and school. At least I can see the end of the Omegathon.

Maybe do something through a site like Cafe Press. Then maybe the site could start to make a little money, and you guys wouldn't have to learn how to make everything.

I would buy a mug, t-shirt, and hoodie. Maybe think about doing something like a timeline selection. NWR, PGC, and older site names could be their own shirt/cup.

Hey applicants, the hiring train kinda got off the track but I haven't lost your applications or anything.  Things have been hectic behind the scenes, but I will get back to you at some point in the next few weeks.

Applicants?

shouldn't it be applicant(s)? :D

Just kidding, but I haven't seen you guys advertise for hiring for a long time now. I just thought Jr. was lookin for a spot out of the blue(which is why we(mostly me) kinda joked with him a little), didn't know you were actually looking to hire someone else

If you look about 10 posts up, Patchkid15 also applied.

Thanks Jon for getting back to us.

I dunno, there's less and less point to owning a 360 these days.  Outside of Halo, Gears, and Mass Effect (and maybe Fable), there isn't much else out there for it that you can't get elsewhere.  If I didn't have so much money tied up in 360 Rock Band peripherals I'd dump my 360 altogether.

Since the 360 is my only console right now, I don't really have a choice. None of those games that you listed really interest me, so I'm pretty much playing LotR:C, Force & Sonic Unleashed, and Rock Band right now. Anyway, I'm focusing on catching up on handheld games like Pokemans:Platinum and Final Fantasy VI Advance right now.

Yes, they are actually making another one. Lindy, if I am hired, I will review this game so you don't have to worry about finding someone else to do it.

The only other achievement I think I accomplished was straight 3 stars in Mario Kart DS and I took second in a nationwide tournament about 3 years ago.

Cool. I tried to break the single lap records in Mario Kart DS, but there is one guy who holds all records for that game. At my fastest time, I'm still 4 seconds off.

I'm also trying to break the records for speed runs on handheld games, since most of those games either don't have records set for them or are very easy to beat. Most people, it seems, go for the console versions. I am 1.5 minutes off the Super Mario World record.

I just set two records on the minigames on New Super Mario Bros. I'm going to submit them to Twin Galaxies.

Has anyone else set any records or ever tried in the past?

HAWX just never felt challenging.  The enemy A.I. never put up a fight, and the quantity of enemies was never so high as to counter their relative impotency.

This sounds like something that I'll get from Gamefly eventually.

Jonny only mentioned it briefly, but all of you out there who have 360s seriously need to pick up Splosion Man. It's a brilliant little platformer that deserves your attention.

I tried to download the demo yesterday, but my internet for my Xbox is awful. I'll probably get it by the end of the week once I fix it.

I'm probably going to get the first 2 Zelda games from Gamefly soon. I am one of the people who started Zelda gaming with Phantom Hourglass and then went to Minish Cap and Link to the Past on the GBA. Thankfully, I am catching up on old games that came out on GBA quickly now.

Good job though. I hope that people will do this more on the forums now.

I'm sorry you have to play the GBA version of that game. The gameplay is fine--I kind of like the differences between Mario and Luigi they added--but the music was totally botched.

Yeah, some of the secret levels at the end are better played with Luigi. I usually mute my DS, so the music differences don't really bother me.
