Nintendo Gaming / RE: PC hackers and the Wiimote
« on: December 21, 2006, 07:03:06 AM »
Bah, the GlovePIE guy is turning this whole thing political with his stupid disclaimer:

You may not use this software on military bases, or for military purposes, or in Israel (a terrorist state that bullies Muslim nations), or if you are a missionary (a genocidal activity), or a scientologist, or if you practice homeopathy (see website for reasons why).
------------

I usually try to separate the artist from his views, but this is a bit much. Fortunately there seems to be something called WiinRemote that works similarly though

« on: December 20, 2006, 01:15:24 PM »
Ha...it's pretty nifty/cool, but they need to add more cities. On the WiFi front, I had to disable WPA2 to get it to work

EDIT: It works now, but with WPA, not WPA2, and the Wii is DMZ'd.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Who wants 2000 FREE Wii Points?
« on: December 18, 2006, 12:45:51 PM »
I tried it, cancelled True. They confirmed my address last week, but I've yet to here anything more from them. Doubt I'll get anything, but here's hoping (I cannot justify spending money on VC games - or any other games for that mattter - until Zelda is complete)

I thought that the issue wasn't that the straps weren't being used and the Wiimotes went flying, it was that the straps were breaking because they weren't strong enough; it's supposed to prevent butterfingers from going out of control, and it obviously is not working here for a fair amt of ppl. (I'm not one of them)

Discontinued? This doesn't not look good for Homesta Wunnuh GameCube Zelda

It's time for the Regginator to speak some sense into these woefully misguided foo's. Either that, or money-hat time...damn it, those should NOT be necessary on a console so cheap to work with...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Will the Wii have a Quarter 1 drought?
« on: December 17, 2006, 08:30:15 AM »
...I'll take the Q1 drought if it means Nintendo will be getting their act together on other fronts, namely fixing the online situation. It should bother everyone that they've kept mum about it; and I'm starting to think that online Wii games are going to be the showcase of E3 (or CES or GDC or whathaveyou now instead of that old show)

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii Component still looks pixilated?
« on: December 14, 2006, 08:06:05 AM »
I just got the official component cables and am using them with my new Lumenlab projector. It looks pretty good; small text was unreadable and colors were hopelessly washed out with regular RCA.

Fortunately for me, the LL Evo projector's native resolution is 800x480, so it's perfect for standard def content. While the jaggies are more apparent and Link's character model definitely look more pixelated than before, the fugly colors I was getting with RCA were worse.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: 3rd party USB ethernet adapters
« on: December 13, 2006, 07:02:43 PM »
Wow, that's great. I just got a wireless router for cheap after rebates though ($7), so I'm golden anyways, but if the wireless ever goes out, it's nice to know there's a solution available now.

I took quackulus last summer in a 6-week bootcamp course. It was ridiculous- rewarding when I figured things out, but very frustrating. Kinda like learning an instrument, except for all intents and purposes, a lot less useful/cool for everyday life. Swore off the thing ever more, though I've heard discrete math is harder (which I'm also gonna take this coming summer) Ceric: good luck

Nintendo Gaming / RE:SD card adapter?
« on: December 09, 2006, 07:20:49 PM »
You could get them from ebay; I just bought one. Supposedly, this could allow you to play ROMs on the GC. And, since ROMs are legal for games that you already own (this was declared by the Copyright Office a new exception to the DMCA last month), this is convenient.

Link to an adapter that I bought, ~$20

EDIT: I'm not trying to get banned re the fact that ROMs of cart games that you already own are perfectly legal. If you click the link above and read exception 2, you'll see that, but for the lazy:

2. Computer programs and video games distributed in formats that have become obsolete and that require the original media or hardware as a condition of access, when circumvention is accomplished for the purpose of preservation or archival reproduction of published digital works by a library or archive. A format shall be considered obsolete if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace.

-of course, this means that once released on the VC, it goes into a shady legal area ("no longer reasonably available").

Hmm...considering the lack of hype for any individual Wii game besides Zelda (I mean, in relation to a bunch of the other games listed) ...this is pretty good. Wii needs a revolutionary FPS, soon, methinks. (and MP3 doesn't count, shame on you for suggesting it)

Without even reading that, by definition, there's no way that converting from WMA to MP3 will result in anything other than loss of quality (converting from one lossy format to another). But as you have no choice, good luck...
