Yes, the map would look pretty cool, but it's quite long.

It is a shame that Death Mountain breaks the continuity of the map. Still, this is awesome stuff. I thought about doing something similar with Super Mario Bros. 1-1 in the past, but without the frame--it would be far too long.

If only the printing was not so expensive, I would definitely do this myself. Maybe with Super Mario World or Link's Awakening.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:VC game reviews here?
« on: September 17, 2007, 06:07:54 PM »
Every article on the NWR home page has a "Talkback" link which allows you to comment on the article. Forum members often use that to discuss the review and state their opinion on the game itself.

NWR Feedback / RE:I'm sure you're aware

I also love the personal feel of the forums, and wish that would extend to the front page a bit more. I don't want NWR to be like Joystiq or other video game blogs where each story is accompanied by a cheesy 5-minute Photoshop job, but as it stands NWR is very much like a press room site. The news is delivered but the heart is sometimes missing.

I would love to see a return of the staff comments. Kairon's 'quickcast' idea is nice too. They should complement the main news articles (not all of them, mind you) and allow staff to offer up their thoughts. Actual news should remain in text. The great thing about audio is that while informal text seems unprofessional, informal speaking just sounds fun/inviting. More editorials would be welcome, too.

Hmm...I could have sworn that the room with the protected side doors was in the east. Anyway, use your ship to destroy the generator outside the window.

Edit: I was wrong. It is indeed in the west. Still, follow my advice about using your ship.

There are one of those type of rooms (with the translucent red window) at the end of both the western and eastern paths. On the western one, the generator is unprotected and can be destroyed. On the eastern one, there are two turret guns protecting the generator, so those must first be destroyed.

Mashiro is in the eastern room, where two space pirates should appear and open the side doors (which start a circular path around the two turrets). The problem is that he didn't destroy the western generator first.
Edit: Switch east/west in the previous statement.

Go to your ship, land at the western dock. Continue until you get to an outdoor room with a giant wall (it has a red spike in the middle). Try to proceed from there.

I'm finally done with that planet and couldn't be happier. I hit plenty of roadblocks along the way, including the one your are facing.

I found that the information that comes in via satellite/radio to misleading. After getting the ship upgrade, you are ready for the west-most area. Land at that dock then proceed.

Bill: He is on the eastern side of the planet, which must be done after the western side. Edit: Reverse that

It took me a while to grasp what they were saying, but I think I understand now. The best ideas are those which solve multiple problems at once, for they fix problems deep within, rather than the surface-level imperfections. This is better than solving problems one-by-one, or just throwing more resources at the problem, for those actions are just quick fixes that leave the underlying faults alone.

I know that's not exactly what they said, but that's the meaning I took from it.

I see a bunch of words, but no man named The American. Do eagles fly south in the summer to hibernate in Kangaroo Land?

Does anyone remember this post? I do, and I want for The American to soar like an eagle and make his triumphant return.

TalkBack / RE: INTERVIEWS: The Denis Dyack Interview

I really enjoyed this. I place less emphasis on graphics/tech than Dyack does, but he had some good things to say. It makes me want to try Eternal Darkness.

At first I was going to scoff at the idea of Miyamoto not being a gamer, but I actually don't know how much games he plays in his spare time. Although he may not have the time these days, we know that he has a love for Pac-Man--one that likely predates the creation of Donkey Kong. Does anyone know of other series that Miyamoto admires?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
« on: July 14, 2007, 05:42:16 PM »
I believe that Nintendo should use forums only to help recognize faults in past games, not to create the foundation in a new one. Although I enjoyed Twilight Princess, I feel that it was created to satisfy the desire of Zelda fans for a "worthy" successor to Ocarina of Time. This is evident from the game's first trailer:
Quote

Blades will bleed...
Shields will shatter...
But as the light fades...
Will the Hero rise again?

You don't use the trigger on Zapper to fire your gun? Weird.

Edit: Just looked at a picture of the Zapper. I forgot it had the trigger so far from the nunchuck. What is the main use of the trigger then?

You've got to beat it. It's one of the better Zelda games I've played. I love its whimsical nature. When you first see the Chain Chomp in the front yard, you know its going to be an interesting game.

Anyway, back to embarrassing stories...

This one is also from Link's Awakening. Sorry the details are a bit vague.

I got through several dungeons and reached the Face Shrine dungeon, but got stuck on a particular room. On this map, it is the third panel in the first column. For months I did not know how to open that door, so I just gave up. Later, when I went to my grandparent's house for a few days, I decided to start over since I had forgotten all the things I had done before.

It turns out the door opened with bombs.

General Gaming / RE: PS3 price cut canceled! (effectivly)
« on: July 13, 2007, 04:53:23 AM »
So how long until the stock is cleared?

Since the PS3 has been selling like hotcakes, it shouldn't take too long. [sarcasm]

45
It will not be used as much as the nunchuck, classic controller, or Zapper by my prediction.

But I do believe it will be used more than the DK Bongos. The bongos were a specialized product from the start, with the barrel design and DK logo. On the other hand, the Wii Balance Board is just another accessory. As far as I know, it doesn't have any WiiFit-specific markings.

Also the bongos were more limiting in their abilities: two large buttons, one start button, and a clap sensor. The balance board alone has but two pressure-sensitive buttons, but can be used with the remote (although it could get a little difficult).

General Gaming / RE: New PSP version announced

The difference, Ian, is that Nintendo is using the non-competition line in times of great success. By now, there is no way that the Wii will be considered a failure in the same sense that the GameCube was, so I don't think they are trying to cover their tail there.

Competition does exist between the big three, but Nintendo's form of competition is about reaching out to new demographics, not capturing more of the same group. When Sony or Microsoft brag, they brag about selling x million units. When Nintendo brags, they brag about winning over soccer moms and old people. In the end, all three are competing for sales, but Nintendo's competition is fought differently. It's not a cover-up, it's just a fact.

This sounds great. I love puzzle games that aren't always in the falling-block Tetris style, but are more like Lemmings or Mario vs. Donkey Kong. This sounds like something from the latter category.

Games like these can have wide appeal, since the difficulty is based in the design of the level--not the core foundation of the game. Most puzzle games are easy to learn/control, so anyone can play and choose a difficulty that suits them.

This makes me want the 360/PS3 Spielberg game.

Although the gameplay itself has become easier, the interface has increased in complexity, which has caused some gamers from the 2D-era to stop gaming altogether. That's all denjet78 is trying to say.
