TalkBack / Re: The Importance of an RPG Mode in Mario Tennis Open
« on: May 25, 2012, 05:39:50 PM »
I wouldn't mind an RPG mode, but I would need it to involve playing as the Mario characters.  I guess they went with a couple of kids because the story would have to be flexible enough to be playable as Mario or Luigi or Yoshi or whoever you chose, and that's a little difficult to do (or, you make the player play as Mario).  I haven't had a lot of time with Open yet, but I like it so far.  I guess if they had the exact cartridge, but with a play-as-kids RPG on top of it, that would have been fine.

That's because you're an ignoramus!  LOL, jk.

B&W Yoshi looks like Mickey Mouse and tastes like licorice.

Yes, fixyourface, yes!  You and I are a rare breed.  I, too, long for the days before Metroidvania.  To me, Super Castlevania IV and Rondo (and its PSN remake) are the pinnacles of the series.  While I enjoyed the handheld games, I really get tired of backtracking through the same rooms over and over.  Let me go on a linear journey and never once have to scroll left!

Part of me would rather it not have that red trade dress, but the other part of me says, "Get over it, we're not going to look at the cover art."  And then the men with butterfly nets try to get me.

I have Power Tennis on GCN,  but I might go for the Wii version.  Definitely getting Pikmin 2.

I think I'd feel like a fool wearing that Yoshi outfit to play tennis.  Just walking around me neighborhood?  That would be okay.

I'm betting this will never happen because then you would essentially be getting two for the price of one.  Who would bother paying for a  download-only version when you could buy a physical copy, download the game for free, and then sell your physical game?

Yeah, I wasn't thinking it through.  You could just buy the game and give the downloadable copy to your friend, and vice versa.

Is there any chance you will be able to download for free the digital version of games you bought in the store?  I'd like to always have MK7 available no matter what I'm playing (but I doubt it will work this way).

Too bad New Play Control died an early death, but glad this is finally coming here.  Now the only one left on the table is Chibi-Robo.

AWESOME on both fronts.  I love Maka when played right, and I've begged for folders since day one.  All my NES games in one, GBA in another, etc.  YES!

Nintendo's on a motorphoning roll with the 3DS games.  I was sold on this the moment it was announced, but it just looks better and better.  The wall practice mode with SMB screens makes me feel all warm inside.  Now, Camelot, on to Mario Golf 3DS.

Thanks.  I understand the benefit is being able to use the Classic Controller, which I don't have.  I think I'll be content with the disc version.

I'm not sure I knew any of the Metal Slug games were available on the VC.  I was briefly excited at the thought of MS3, but then I remembered that I have Anthology for both Wii AND PSP!  How much Metal Slug does one need?  A LOT.  I'll have to talk myself out of buying them yet again.

Don't do that, man.  I thought this was a news scoop about real SM3DL DLC.

TJ, I think I have a pretty good idea for Mario Kart 7 DLC.  To me, new tracks and newly retro tracks are one of the key selling points of a new iteration, so Nintendo would want to stay away from that for DLC.  But, what if they brought back tracks that were already retro in past editions?  Spruced up for MK7, of course--improved graphics for the retro tracks that were in DS, glide and underwater abilities for the ones from Wii.  I'd love to play N64 DK's Jungle Parkway on this engine/with this internet play, as an example.

It's past time to bring Stanley back. He should be a Paper Mario partner.

This would have been the perfect time to bring Of Myths and Monsters to the NA eShop.  We would have had all the KI games on the 3DS at the same time (those who preordered, anyway).  Shucks!

Diox has been down too long in the midnight sea.

I see what you did there.   :Q

I'll have to read this later.  I don't know if my friends and I were just weird, but we put Kid Icarus on about the same level as Zelda and Metroid.  Those were fun times, because we'd get to school and compare notes on whatever the latest game was, and those three seemed to be the favorites.

I'm getting this game for sure--have had it on order since the option went up--but I'm worried about the controls.  I tried twice to play Super Mario Sunshine and had to give up because I could never get used to the right stick (if they had given an option to invert it, it would have been fine) even after many hours, so difficult controls are just not something I seem to be able to adjust to.

95
No, there is not.  If you have a CPP and enable left-handed controls, only the CPP's circle pad will do anything.  If you have a CPP and keep it default, only the 3DS's built-in circle pad will do anything.  I guess they didn't want to include a control option that many wouldn't be able to use for lack of a CPP.

I doubt if they'll do Mario Kart 7 DLC, but you know what would be cool?  16 retro tracks that were already included as retro tracks in MKW and MK:DS.  That way, you get a boost in graphics for the DS tracks, added glide/underwater abilities, just the basic opportunity to play these on the 3DS natively, and it preserves the major selling point of a new Kart iteration (new tracks and never-before-retro tracks).  It would still probably take them too much time and effort to polish up the tracks for 7, but those tracks and a few new characters would sell tons of DLC.  I would love some 3DS DK's Jungle Parkway!  Plus, throw in a fixed Maka Wuhu.   :cool;

Back in the real world, I'm definitely picking up Punch-Out!! this week.

97
I don't think I even have that cartridge any more.  I sold a bunch of NES games for peanuts right before college.  By this point, I would have enjoyed having those games still around rather than having had that money, the use of which is long since forgotten.

98
Mr. Dream?  Isn't he the guy who has that tattoo from the Hangover 2 and likes biting ears?  I may be thinking of someone else.

99
At this point, I'm not expecting to be able to take a Super Wii until right after Thanksgiving.

Don't you mean the other 8?

One obvious choice is Madame Flurrie.  What?  You don't go for Rubenesque?
