Nintendo Gaming / Advance Wars.....why not?

... the topic mysertiously drifs away.

anyone else find it humorous that the topic of this thread has "mysteriously drifted away"?

And the price? Basic black 'n white palms with v. low memory and mediocre resolution cost the same as the GBA:SP.

i read on ign.com that the system will probably cost between $200 and $300.  no word on how much games would cost.

Nintendo Gaming / advance wars: what's with the war room?
« on: May 07, 2003, 06:01:33 PM »
i picked up advance wars a couple months ago after i got my sp, and just finished the main campaign last week.  up to this point i had pretty much ignored the war room.

can someone give me some insight as to what exactly the war room is?

from what i can tell, it looks to be a bunch of different maps against various COs that didn't fit into the main game.  i know you can purchase more maps and COs from the store, but is there anything else i need to know about the war room?

is it possible to replay missions from the main campaign here?  is it possible to play the alternate stages from the main campaign (i.e. can i play andy's route instead of max's?) or do i have to play all the way through the main campaign again?

Nintendo Gaming / playing splinter cell on gba before gc
« on: April 28, 2003, 03:55:47 PM »
has anyone played both splinter cell on gamecube (or xbox or ps2) and the gba version?  i know they're two completely different games but since they have different versions of the same moves, levels, etc and the same story line is it going to ruin my experience playing the gamecube version if i play the gba version first?

i plan on getting both versions, but right now i'm so tied up in zelda i don't have a chance to play it on gamecube and i'm in need of a good gba game.  would anyone advise to hold off on the gba version until after i've played the gamecube version?

i don't think i died once while playing oracle of seasons or ages.  in fact, while both games were excellent i thought they were both a touch easy.

the game i've died most at recently would have to be mario sunshine.  that game got tricky at times...especially during the levels where you had to make it through the obstacle course w/o your water pack.  other than that, hm...the computer ai in advance wars kicks my ass a lot.

i feel the same way most of the users on this forum do, that games these days are getting much easier than they used to be.  the amount of times i died in mario sunshine doesn't compare to the amount of times i died during mario 3 or super mario world.

I'm also not liking the new karts. they look silly, predictable, and appear as if they handle very differently (they also sit much higher).

...um...anyone care to tell me how you can judge how a vehicle handles by looking at a few screen shots?  if they released a video, maybe....  but you can't tell from a picture how something moves.

well, now we know why nintendo said they couldn't release a single screenshot without giving away an important new aspect to the game.

and even though they're not mario characters, i can't help but wish for a link/zelda kart.  w00t.

Nintendo Gaming / Finished Eternal Darkness tonight...

I just got the third ending about 5 minutes ago.....    Frankly I am kind of dissappointed. It wasn't all that bad, I was just hoping for something more after finishing the game three times. It didn't really tell me anything more than I had already surmised.

can someone please tell me what the special ending consists of once you beat the game three times?

i'd like to play through three times, but between working 40 hours a week, and trying to maintain a social life i just don't seem to have the time.  hell, i'm already behind in my games by quite a bit.  i still need to get around to beating timesplitters and i haven't even picked up splinter cell or ikaruga yet.  so sad....

TalkBack / CNN Article on the State of Nintendo
« on: April 17, 2003, 12:19:08 PM »
two points.

first off, i would like to back up mariolinksamus in saying that originally the article did state that nintendo was converting over n-64 games to the gba.  it has since been changed to read snes games.  so don't jump all over him.

second point, i've been e-mailing chris morris (author of the article) and he let go this little bit of information:

George Harrison and I played F-Zero - which was pretty darn fun. Damn fast paced, but if that's your thing, you should enjoy it. And a new Mario Kart is indeed in the works - and is currently slated for a November 2003 release. Start salivating now. Expect screen shots next month.

thought everyone would like to know.  it's not official, but it's as close as you're going to get for now.

Anyway, Mario Kart was a huge seller on N64, it sold over 5 million copies in the US alone! I remember reading somewhere that Miyamoto said he couldn't show a single screenshot of Mario Kart GC because it would reveal a new aspect of the gameplay. Ill find a link if you want, but i cant be bothered right now...

i've seen many people comment that these new innovations might include lan capabilities, new characters, new courses, etc.  am i the only one who thinks that makes zero sense?

if the new innovation is a new character, post a screen shot that doesn't include that character.  new level?  don't post shots from that level.  customizable karts?  don't post any pics of anything but the standard kart.  etc.

if it's something that's so big nintendo can't show a single screenshot it's got to be big and it's going to affect gameplay.  my thinking is it's got to be something like a different graphical style (more real, less cartoony; or, dare i say it, cel-shaded) or a different perspective (first person instead of third).  or (unthinkable ahead) maybe they're ditching the nintendo characters theme and going with generic racers (i know it sounds horrible, but they might think these classic characters is what's giving their system a kiddie image.  just a thought.

Nintendo Gaming / cleaning the sp's screen, need help

I think a lot of people use a 100% cotton cloth, like a tee shirt, to clean their screen.

what?!?  doesn't anyone remember that post a few weeks back about the guy who scratched up his gamecube because he placed a towel over it?  i dare not touch any nintendo product with a cloth--cotton or otherwise.  that's why i play my games in a "clean room" with those intel guy dancing around me.

Nintendo Gaming / Is the SP the sexiest gaming machine

we seem to be forgetting about the redesigned snes.  that was pretty hot for it's time....

and yeah, i was also a fan of the dreamcast.

gba sp still wins, but not by much.

keep shooting it and it keeps spliting up and getting smaller and smaller until all the pieces eventually disappear.

at least i think that's how it was done.  haven't played the game in a while.

Nintendo Gaming / Too Human Speculation
« on: April 04, 2003, 08:02:07 AM »
am i the only one thinking that if this guy could do all that you've been talking about the game's not going to be very fun/hard?

he sounds practically indestructible.  i imagine it would be pretty hard (impossible) to die unless he was allergic to kryptonite and the enemy had a rather large supply of it (unlikely due to licensing problems).

plus, seriously, if the guy was made out of pure titanium, why would he need holographic doubles or super stealth ability?  what's going to happen if an enemy spots him?  the bullets would bounce right off.  why would he need to take over the mind of a guard to open a locked door?  he could bust right through it using his retractable jack hammer arm (which doubles as a weapon to be used against those pink demons from doom ii).  come to think of it, why shoot people with homing bullets when he can grow to thirty times his size and crush the entire base under his foot?

while these all seem to be entertaining ideas, i don't think they'd make a really good video game.

on a side note, i think if he did have all those abilities, you'd wind up only using 3 or 4 of them on a regular basis and ignore the rest.  kind of like the cards in castlevania:  circle of the moon or the rings in zelda:  oracle of ages/seasons.  nice ideas, and fun to try to collect them all, but did any one ever use the cards that let you use mp instead of hearts for sub-weapons or the ring that let you throw bombs farther?

14471
as the title states, i must have not been paying attention and i don't know why i'm collecting pearls.  thus far i have the one from the eagle people (i think it's din's pearl) and the one from the deku tree (no idea what this one's called) but i have no idea why i'm sailing around collecting these.  because of my job i only get to play the game for a couple hours a night ever other night so i probably went and forgot the plot.  can someone fill me in on the purpose of these pearls?  thanks.

this probably falls under that category, but damn dude, you put a lot of thought into this.  i hate to break it to you, but i sincerely doubt the game is going to be that detailed, and it's not likely to live up to your expectations.

ever thought of producing video games yourself?  i'd buy one.

Nintendo Gaming / majora's mask
« on: April 01, 2003, 08:37:40 AM »
why does every one seem to have a problem with majora's mask?  i've heard a million complaints that the game was too easy, that it was too short, that people beat it in one day, etc.

i was a really big fan of the game, personally.  true, it didn't have the story line that ocarina of time had, but in terms of game play it was right up there.  i really enjoyed the new time limit issues that were presented by the three-day cycle.  and true, while there were only four main dungeons to complete, there were even more side quests than in ocarina.

i know i'm not the only one out there who enjoyed this game, i'm just wondering what other people's views on this game are.  after beating master quest a few weeks ago, i'm really tempted to break out my n64 and replay majora's mask after i get through wind waker once (maybe twice, depending on how much the game leaves me wanting more).

does anyone know a website that is doing a side-by-side comparison of different gba sp carrying cases?

looks like i can answer my own question....

here's a review of the mad catz macro kit sp [which i'm pretty sure includes the armorcase sp], direct to you from ign.com.  link

here's a review of the mad catz execucase sp, also from ign.com.  link

i'm a little sad to see the armorcase sp isn't all i had hoped for.  perhaps i had better keep shopping for a case.

i just want like a stylin Leather case with a flap and button to hold the sp and KEEP ITS PORTABLE NATURE

in that case, you should check out the stylin mad catz execucase sp.  it sounds right up your alley.

[and no, i don't work for mad catz.  i swear.]
