Advice on which racer to purchase
« on: February 19, 2003, 01:16:00 PM »
Hi All,

I am in the market to buy a racing title for the GC, but am not sure what to get.  I like realistic racers with good pyhsic engines.  I have narrowed the choice down to Burnout, or a Nascar title.  I am not a nascar fan so there is no added appeal for me to race with real drivers.  Can anyone help me out with this choice, and please give me a reason why I should buy the game.  Also there might be a realistic racer out there that I don't know about...... so feel free to suggest.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Besides Burnout theres always Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit II. Its got great driving physics and dream cars that are out of your financial range. Burnout is supposed to come out with their sequel soon.

Hi Dr. Nick! =P

Well, personally, I wouldn't go with NASCAR, as it has the ability to well, put people to sleep at a disturbing rate. Turning left a thousand times is about as fun as dying.

Burnout is the way to go. The controls are arcade-like, no GT3 type handling, but the damage model is fantastic. Hit a car at full force and you'll wince in pain as your car gets reduced to the size of a Lego block...

But you know what's better?
Waiting another month or so for Burnout 2. Better graphics, better crashes, better soundtrack, and a whole mode dedicated to crashing!

EDIT: Me and Gamer Donkey posted at the same time! Watch out, it's a glitch in the Matrix! Duck and cover!

If you don't already have it, Wave Race: Blue Storm.  This game is awesome - the only problem is, it's a bit short (same size as the N64 version, I'm afraid)

Good point, foofoo is just lucky Rick is off right now, even though there are other moderators, I notice him the most. This is stated factually, with no offense meant.

Any racer where you have to brake at every turn ala Gran Turismo 2, Sega GT 2002 and Project Gotham is too boring and slow for me. That's why I go for all the arcade racers, like Burnout and Need for Speed. I'll be getting Burnout 2 for Gamecube when it comes out here in Australia. I played it on my friend's PS2, and I loved every minute of it. I love being able to do turns at 120km/h and not having to slow down or crash into everything. If you want speed, get XG3 for now, but that is until the king comes, in the form of F-Zero GC.  Tube Sliders might be fun, as might XGRA.

So my suggestions: F-Zero GC and Burnout 2 (if you can't wait, just get Burnout).
