Heres an Idea Vivendi revisited

Seems now vivendi will sell their game developers seperatly. Sierra would be sold by itslef..... Picking up Sierra would be VERY smart by Nintendo, the Half Life/Team Fortress series, is the biggest FPS series in Asia. Nintendo would be getting a good exclusive FPS that would sell both in USA and Asia.

Really? Very interesting, mainly because it's Vivendi's independant developers that make it so desirable- Sierra, Valve, especially Blizzard. And the fact that Vivendi's selling them seperatly suggest MS is not buying them (or Vivendi would'nt have done that and just sold MS the whole package deal). While I don't think Nintendo will pick up any of Vivendi's devs itself (probably a big 3rd-party, like EA), I do think this spells continued support from all 3 of those companies. It looks like Starcraft Ghost may be coming out after all.

I can't stand EA... they are just too big... when i was an uneducated gamer i always loved hearing "EA Sports: it's in the game" (madden 94), but now i just see that name and a feeling of bitterness swells up in me.

Note: some (not all) of this hatred comes from the sports deal, but i understand that the majority of gamers own at least a PS2, so not many buy games for the cube, so EA had to withdraw sports titles from Cube... but if someone (retro) could make a good football game then Cube would have a good sports market.. and EA couldnt get any of the profit.. part of this hatred stems from the Bond license.. i love Perfect Dark to death (i bought an Xbox for it), but EA butchered the Bond series... there could have been a second good FPS on GCN right now.. but instead we just have TimeSplitters 2

anyway.. nintendo needs to get at least one of Vivendi's bigger developers... and just keep EA from getting their hands on anything...

edit: this isn't fanboy hatred.. i just hate when a company gets too big in any one industry, competition brings about innovation and good products.. which is why MS or Sony (or even Nintendo) can't get total control of the market

2nd edit: I was more of a NFL 2k fan myself; Madden got too focused on play calling (i admit that i suck at play calling)... the EA hockey games i stopped liking after NHL 99 ... now i guess ill play blitz (yea, right)
I'll shut up now...

Hey, that would be a VERY smart move for Nintendo to acquire Sierra. Imagine Halflife 2, Team fortress 2, Counter Strike whatever, and BIRTHRIGHT (i bet im the only person who has heard of this game) all exclusive to GC! Gamecube would become unstoppable in Australia where everyone i know plays counter strike every frickin day. And in Asia, whoa, Nintendo will be like a second religion over there if they get Sierra. I wouldnt mind Nintendo buying Blizzard, but i dont think Diablo, starcraft etc. would work well on a console.

EDIT: Hey dumbass above me, EA havent pulled any sports games from Gamecube, what the hell are you talking about?

Bah, having Retro design a Football game would be a total waste of time. If people arn't interested in sport games on GameCube as it is (And for good reason), having a quality development studio that's better suited to high profile titles spend there time making a sports game won't make a difference.

Anyway, buying out Blizzard would be fan-bloody-tastic.

Normally I'd attribute sports games selling poorly on the Cube to their SUCKING, but in reference to Sega's decision, they really were among the best. While I don't play spotrs games myself, Sega really put a lot of hard work into that. Then again, it wasn't just the Gamecube their 2K series sold poorly on, it's just the one it sold poorest on. Anyway, the rest of the sports games out there really DO suck- their developers really need to make them worthy of their sales on other platforms before they lay the blame on the Gamecube.

My job's crappy =(
I'm at this place called Hawk Packaging, and basically... I lift freakin' heavy boxes all day, or sometimes do a bit of data entry. Not what I want to do for the rest of my life, that's for sure! It pays VERY well though.

Tommorrow, I'm of to EB World, where I'll go "Hey, bitch!" and the store dude will go "Excuse me?" and I'll go "No! Ring up these GameCube games bitch!"

Then I'll go to KFC and go "Mashies? What the hell is this?"
And finally, I'll spend my remaining money on like, I dunno... One of those hats with the spinny propeller things on top. *Nods head*

As much as I really hate to say it...  (I think PC games belong on a PC), I think it would be freaking fantastic if Blizzard was bought by Nintendo.

Sony made their place in this industry by snatching up Square.  Nintendo could take back their rightful place by pulling the same trick on them.  Of course Capcom or Sega would be the perfect ones for such a deal.  Most people don't like living without Resident Evil.  How would they feel if they had to go without DMC, BoF, Onimusha, or Dino Crisis?

Um.... Grey Ninja, last time i checked, 3 version of Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X were all playable on a PSX2, PSX2 fanboys pretty much live with Resident Evil. Anyway, Nintendo needs to buy SOMEONE!

Yes i agree, picking up someone would give Nintendo even more publicity. Again Sierra would be very good. They could make a deal with another publisher to port the games to PC so the PC market would still be happy, and Nintendo would have its FPS.  In South Korea almost nobody buys consoles yet Half Life is huge, i think the world championships in Counter Strike were held there, and transmitted on tv. Getting a Half Life/Counterstrike would push gamecubes in asia. Nintendo needs to spend cash to make cash....

My point is that they don't get any NEW Resident Evil games.  So far that's only 1 and a half games, but when Resident Evil 4 comes out, I am sure it will sell some more GameCubes.  I really don't know many people that hyped about Gun Survivor or Network Resident Evil though.

As much as we would all like to see Nintendo but the Vivendi Properties, we know it won't happen.  When is the last time you remember Nintendo taking that big of a risk?  I sure as hell can't..... WOW, they baught Retro (who was already working on an exclusive Nintendo game), Wow, they baught Silicon Knights (who were also already working on an exclusive Nintendo game), my guess is probably factor 5 (whose last title was an exclusive Nintendo game)

It seems almost pointless for Nintendo to buy all of these houses who are just working on exclusive Nintendo games anyways.

I made a thread about this on the old boards (not going to bother linking it, too damn lazy).  A very good point was made... just like what happened with Rare, Blizzard and Valve employees could defect fromt he company leaving Nintendo with nothing but VERY expensive IP's (Intellectual Properties).

As much as I would love to see it, I am fairly confident that this will not happen which sucks ass, but when you are a Nintendo fan, you pretty much become immune to dissapointments.

Valve made half-life, sierra was only the publisher. Valve is not owned by vivendi, half life is not part of this deal.

Are you all MAD?  You have left out Sierra's crown jewel......
If the big N bought Sierra out we would get a sweet King's Quest game.
OK, maybe I'm too old school, but this was my first PC game!  It would be nice to have a King's Quest type game for the Cube.

Heh.  Hero's Quest was my first PC game.

But I would have to say that I would very much like it if Sierra and Blizzard stayed where they belonged.  On the PC.  I am a console gamer, and I wouldn't trade my GameCube for the most powerful PC in the world (If I couldn't get another GameCube that is).  However, some genres are simply done better on the PC.  Blizzard and Sierra are two powerful PC developers, and they simply belong there.  I would also say that about Bungie.  They do not belong as a console developer either.
