This is more important to me than Ocarina or Mario Kart. I have played Ocarina already and although I liked it it wasn't as good as Link's Awakening to me. I found all the greens and browns a bit wearying after a time - I like my games bright and colorful! Mario Kart I love, but I have it on Wii and I don't have any other 3DS owners to play with.

Tales is a great series though. I really want this.

With the high price of 3DS games, I NEED to resell one to buy another. Stopping people from reselling their own property is immoral.

Hate Facebook, but I would like it if WiiU's online had its own social networking capabilities shared with 3DS.

TalkBack / Re: Miyamoto Explains why Wii and Wii U are White
« on: June 17, 2011, 01:44:29 AM »
I like the white. It looks cool and sophisticated. Black looks like a cheap PC or twentieth century electronics. I like colors too - I liked the purple cubie (dear cubie!) but if you want to look elegant and grown-up, white is a good choice.

33
I hope they will be bringing the improved online environment to 3DS too.

TalkBack / Re: Wii U 50% More Powerful than PS3
« on: June 15, 2011, 02:34:29 PM »
I think WiiU will be more powerful than anything on the market today, but considerably less powerful than the successors to PS360. But it is true that graphics are beginning to plateau and large power advances may be hard to sell to a wide public. I have a feeling Microsoft and Sony may wait to see how well the second-screen philosophy works so they can decide whether to copy it.

« on: June 15, 2011, 12:22:38 AM »
I hope Nintendo doesn't think streamlining friend codes is IT - all they need to do to make a "massive leap" for 3DS.

They need to be building a really rock-solid online gaming/social environment with 3DS to be ready for WiiU.

I think Nintendo is definitely going to have to drop the price of 3DS in the first part of next year to ward off competition from Vita.

They'll probably try to make as many sales as possible at the current price this holiday season. A bundle would be wise.

I've had my DS Lite for years and I use a screen protector. It's fine. A lot of scratches on the protector but I can change that whenever I want to. It's never interfered with gameplay in the slightest.

With the WiiU I doubt one will use a stylus much except in specialized applications. For touching virtual buttons etc. you'll just use your fingers. Is that a case for capacitative? Not in my view. I never had any trouble with virtual buttons and fingers on DS Lite, and if the WiiU touch screen is like the 3DS's (which it probably will be) it will be even less of a problem.

For those more specialized uses, though a resistive touch screen is much more accurate.

I don't go as far as Leahsdad at all. I think capacitative is good for manipulating the device in the absence of physical buttons, but when you have plenty of real buttons for the "meat and potatoes" work, I really would much prefer resistive for the other things. The relatively simple virtual-button uses of a machine that has other controls do not require a capacitative screen, allowing it to have the much finer and more precise resistive screen.

I think Link's Awakening is the best Zelda ever!

I do wish the GBC/Super Gameboy colorizations of black and white Gameboy games were available on 3DS. They worked really well in Super Mario Land. That is how I remember the game on my old GBC and I would love to replay it that way.

41
Having an iPod Touch and a DS I would say that I definitely prefer a resistive screen for gameplay. I can see why the i devices use capacitative, for all their functions it is best, but for games it isn't great.

I wonder if this means that DS games will be on the WiiU virtual console. There is no reason they couldn't be.

A very insightful piece. Thank you.

Lives change. At one time I used my GBA mostly on the go, now I almost never use my DS out of the house, but I use it considerably more than the Wii. Also, while I play a little on my iTouch, in odd moments, I wouldn't find it sufficient for an airplane flight.

If I were  an investor I really would be taking this opportunity to buy into Nintendo.

A main-series, numbered Final Fantasy back on a Nintendo console is a historic event. I am really excited.

So what did the "turtle" hint mean? I didn't see any turtle.

I think the difference from Cube/GBA will be:
a) You needed an extra piece of equipment to use GBA as a controller (a small one true, but it made the whole thing more cumbersome, especially as you needed a connector for each GBA).
b) You had to either have a GBA or not play the game in that mode. With at least one extra New Controller (when does it get a name) as a possibility, they may avoid this problem.
Let's hope, anyways!

47
Hee - my mushroom caps might make you feel funny. But yes, I hope y'all are right there.

3DS may well come down in price after a bit though with Sony's really aggressive pricing of Vita. In fact a bit of price war may be good for us all!

48
The controller could be $150, and the 3DS may have taken a drop by then - probably 18 months from now.

49
'Course it's always possible that when we find out how costly an extra new controller will be we'll all decide a 3DS is the better buy.

50
The complaining has nothing to do with it (it never does). And Miyamoto-san didn't just make it up. They were already looking into this:

http://kotaku.com/5809706/nintendo-looking-into-games-that-support-two-new-controllers

But if you already have a 3DS it will be more convenient, not to say cheaper. If you don't it won't of course. Duh.
