Oh really - I didn't know that, but I think it overtook the PSP in YTD sales in May or something. Anyway, good news!

Does anyone here keep an overall sales number for the DS and PSP in North America? I read posts on other boards saying that the PSP is beating the DS in overall sales in North America, is this true? I know the PSP has been outselling it, but in overall sales that quick? I know what the overall sales number in Japan is;

2,730,876 vs. 1,562,812

Sources/Monthly #'s would be great too.

I am thinking about creating a thread, on G4 Forums, where the DS and PSP stand today. I am going to make a huge, unbiased as can, sales thread how both systems are selling on each continent. This will lead me to my next question, is there a hardware sales update on how the DS is doing in China, Australia or South America (if it is even there)?

Oh yeah, I also have one last question, when was PSP 2.0 firmware update released? I would imagine it increased PSP sales slightly, in both Japan and North America.

if you scroll back you will find NPD(north american) data for the last couple of months, I don't remember if it had the totals or not, I'm too lazy to look myself

and the PSP 2.0 update was released a week or so ago iirc. there may or may not be more info on the PSP update in the 'Other Systems' section.

Are those Media Create numbers for Japan or North America?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Juding from your question, I'm going to guess no.  But I typically don't really pay attention to the source...I just look for Japanese and American numbers.

EDIT:  My extended arm is better than your extended arm.

Eh? Don't they count pre-orders for the first week? What the hell? Must be a mistake - I don't even think any of those games broke 300k in the week, and that was what the preorder was for SJS. Unless they don't count pre-orders, and I remember reading that Nintendo only shipped 350k or something of the game, so it could all be gone with only the pre-orders. Dunno...

Looks like we gotta wait for the Weekly chart to see what JSS sold.

dengeki, media-create & yahoo.japan #'s should all be out by midnight on thursday

edit: apparently JSS has been making the charts ever since last week, I'm guessing that thats when all preorders were counted, and there were barely more than what was preordered shipped to retailers to sell off the shelf.

2nd edit: Some Blog translated into english
according to this blog
JSS sold out of its first 2 shipments equaling 320k
and as a side note Pokemon XD sold 280k

Couldn't you get another source apart from that blog?

"Which means those JSS numbers are also fake."

But we read 300k copies were preordered, and I think that the shipment was only 350k or something (not sure about either). Let's see some real numbers, and then we will find out what's going

Yeah, i'm not doubting it sold that much, it's just that those numbers were just a guess.

MC's #'s were only for the 1st 4 days, is it possible that P:XD sold almost 100k a day for the next 2 days? I doubt it but it could be possible.

As for JSS, iirc, it was said that they nearly sold out of the initial 1st 2 shipments and it was really hard to find a copy at a store. Im pretty sure that the 1st 2 shipments were barely more than enough to cover the pre-orders

I don't know if this is a localized thing or not (I doubt it is) but have any of you noticed how PSP is alot more advertised along with having a special place in stores when it comes to accessories along with games? I think if this is not localized it could explain why PSP is outselling NDS, it is in the public eye more. Not only that but I am of the opinion it really isn't in the same league as the NDS considering it is also a portable DVD player of sorts.

yeah, the DS really doesnt seem to cater to the casual crowd like the sleek PSP... and I absolutely hate how the PSP generally gets its own case while the DS games are placed amongst the GBA titles.

also, how do you think that white PSP will fare? I'm thinkin it might get dirtier than my ibook.
I'll shut up now...
