Is there any way to obtain US sales info? I'd love to see how the DS and PSP are shaping up against each other.

NPD for May is in this thread, you may want to scroll back a few pages, but........

Quote

Here are numbers from Sony, and intriguingly, they compare most closely to figures from Nintendo for Game Boy Advance sales (instead of for the DS):

Sony says it sold 250,000 PSPs in May (more than $62 million in revenue).

The obvious competitive yardstick is Nintendo's DS: about 57,000 units that month.

But here's the eye-opener: Nintendo says its GBA sales totaled 223,000 in May.

From Sony's point of view, the PSP is THE portable game machine of choice.

From Nintendo's perspective, the combined clout of the GBA and DS is the leading market force.

that should give an idea of how things are going, I will look around for total #'s sold.

"From Nintendo's perspective, the combined clout of the GBA and DS is the leading market force."

That doesn't mean anything.  They're different products and thus their sales shouldn't be combined.  It's like when people say that Nintendo is number one because the Cube and GBA combined outsell the PS2.  Does the Cube benefit at ALL in terms of image or third party support or media coverage or retail shelf space from this "number one" position?  No, because they're different systems.  It's the same with the DS.  In regards to any of the perks that market share provides all that matters for the DS are DS sales.

If Nintendo's allowed to combine GBA and DS sales then Sony is allowed to combine PS1 and 2 sales and we all know how silly that is.

I was gonna say that the DS has a GBA inside of it, but you last point made me retract my post, cause the PS2 has a PS1 inside of it too. Now having said all of that, lets pretend that I didn't, ok

Does anyone know the approximate total sales of the DS and PSP in America?  I looked back through the forum but didn't see any since the new numbers came in and I don't like adding things...so...

Here's the DS vs PSP spread so far in America, near as I can tell.

-------------------

NDS 2004:
2004 Nov - 479,695 (550,000 unit launch)
2004 Dec - 745,899

NDS 2004 total - 1,225,594
(It was rumored to have been 2 million, but Nintendo's maximum capacity was only 2.8 million, and 1.5 million units got sold in Japan)

-------------------

NDS 2005:
2005 Jan - 152,091
2005 Feb - ???
2005 Mar - ???

2005-March total - 428,000

2005 Apr - ???
2005 May - 57,000

-------------------

PSP:
2005 Mar - 620,000 (on 1,000,000 shipped)
2005 Apr - 351,000
2005 May - 250,000

-------------------

NDS numbers after January do not seem to be available, as NPD seems to be combining them with the GBA for some reason. But they're rumored to be around 50,000 a month from March to May.

NDS:
1,750,000?

PSP:
1,221,000

I'm noticing the distinct lack of Famicom Wars DS.  This makes me sad.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

It's just one day, every new release day in Japan a bunch of titles appear on the chart and push everything else down, the next day most new titles drop, by the end of the week they are out of the chart and the ones that sell consistantly are back up there. Nintendogs will be back! Not sure about Famicom Wars though, that seems to have flopped just like the GBA ones did over there.

Also, I imagine now is the time for people to start saving up their money for Jump Superstars.

Nintendo is doomed!

I can only wonder how it feels for sony and their psp to be outsold by the GBSP, even if its just for one week.

I have this strange feeling this game sucks. Dunno, the big companies tend to turn animes into games that don't fit the show. Ah, who am I kidding? I would only accept Tomy or Type Moon working on that game...

Thanks Ruby Onix!  I'm really curious about how America is going to pan out...especially when all the really big DS games come out and then PSP will have GTA which will sell like hot-cakes...except nobody buys hot-cakes all that much...so rather it will sell like pokemon.  Very interesting nonetheless.
