I hope you at least understand why some people are get in a tizzy when you say "I want to support this developer because they made a cool game" and "I refuse to pay full price, or even 20% off full price" back-to-back in the same sentence. Specially when the devs in question are indie and depend much more on the people actually supporting them by buying their product.
I can understand why people get into a tizzy.
I don't really care though because that's the reality of the situation (for me).
Also, you conveniently left out a key piece of information: it's not the developer, or the quality of the game, or an insistence on bigger discounts... it's that (for me)
digital content on a Nintendo console simply isn't worth the price they asking regardless of the quality.
The dev team are great. They make interesting and fun games. I do want to support them, but have a limited budget and a myriad of options competing for that money. Digital content in a highly restrictive ecosystem like Nintendo offers is a hard sell, especially when using premium pricing.
If your budget is bigger, if you don't care about actual ownership or have concerns about accessing your content moving forward, good for you.
