General Gaming / Acclaim: Back from the dead
« on: December 09, 2005, 04:25:58 PM »
I hate to waste a thread, but its worth a few  posts.

The news here

SNK coming back from the dead was nice. This is....disturbing.  As a poster alluded to in GS's comments section, this isn't like Atari. Atari's around in name only, but that still makes you wonder about the 'good old days...'

Why won't some things stay dead?

Edit: Missing adjectives.

General Gaming / Australia: Mod Chips Legal
« on: October 06, 2005, 07:36:04 AM »
Source

The headline says it all. Now it just mentions Sony in this article, I wonder if it applies to other systems (as well as future ones...). I guess this is good news for Aussie gamers who don't have to wait 6 months for a domestic release. Or for when a popular game for some reason can't make its way down under.

Question for the aussies out there: Is it cheaper to import games than it is to buy them locally? Assuming that you don't use mod chips just to by bootleg games?

General Gaming / More Sonic Goodness but....
« on: September 09, 2005, 06:57:35 PM »
I didn't know if this warrants its own seperate topic, but here it is anyway.

Read it and weep; or bitch whatever comes first

For the lazy, here are some snippets(Somewhat old news, but new info):

"First up was the announcement that yes indeed, there is a next-generation Sonic game in the works. Billed as a "re-invention" of the classic franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog will make its debut on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime during 2006."

Now add insult to injury:

"We are proud to re-create our famous friend, Sonic, for a new generation of gamers on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," said Naka. "With Sonic the Hedgehog, we have gone back to our starting point, more than 15 years ago, to reinvent the attitude and speed that made our hero a legend. The 'rebirth of Sonic' will offer an unparalleled sense of speed that is only possible using the processing power afforded by the new systems."

Good for Sonic, bad for Nintendo where he's done the best.

Now lets see: Sonic has the best sales figures on Nintendo's system. SA2 was one of the top selling 'Cube games period. The Sonic Advance series was great (Try comparing Sonic N to Sonic Advance to jog your memory..). Sonic Heroes sold the best on the 'Cube (despite mixed reviews from critics and fans alike), even being the 'best' version. And now this crap? Now Sega's lack of business sense has been well documented, but this is low. This stupidity is painful.

Now before someone says "What about RE 5? It wasn't announced for the Rev at first?", remember that the RE series left a sour taste in both Nintendo's and Capcom's mouth. As of this writing, it MAY come out for the Rev, but that's another story. This is Sega, who's done pretty well on Nintendo's systems. The money and sales should be talking, instead, more disrespect.  Its like the Soul Calibur 3 debacle all over again...

Now it could be possible that Sega could announce a REV version later, but that's not the point.  This is the upmteenth time I'm hearing press releases for Next-Gen games announced for the '360 and PS3. Its like the REV is an anti-hype machine. Its like they can't bother to mention from the get go. Its as if REV need to get down their knees and beg for 3rd party games so far.

P.S Now to be fair, I'll throw a bone to Nintendo since they might have NDA's so airtight, Devs and Publishers can't really talk about specific titles as of this writing. Take that as you will.

*Bitch mode shuts down*

General Gaming / Final Fantasy Creator making 2 XboxNext RPG's

Here's the announcement

And here's the interview

Seems like Microsoft is hell-bent on making a bigger impact in Japan. Here's a snippet for you lazy bastards

"GI: Just to clear things up, is it just Sakaguchi-san who will be working with Microsoft Game Studios or will it be Mistwalker as a whole?

PM: Well the publishing will be done by Microsoft Game Studios.  This is a classic first party publishing deal, if you will.  The development funding will be done by us, as well.  Mistwalker is a company that Sakaguchi-san founded after he left Square Enix.  And it is, if you will, a “joint venture,” and I’ll put quotes around that because we’re not making any sort of financial investment in Mistwalker but is instead bringing Microsoft and Mistwalker together in the Tokyo marketplace and creating and developing both of these newly announced role playing games."

And a little bomshell:

"GI: Will the exclusivity be for just these two titles, or will it span all of Mistwalker’s RPGs?

PM: Right now it’s just for these two titles.  And one of the things that I can tell you is that he’s going to be very busy building two RPGs from the ground up.  His company has already made their first foray into next generation work, if you could categorize the DS as such.    But no, this is something that we’ve envisioned Sakaguchi-san working on for years and there’s very little room for him to do other things."

Verrry interesting...

Nintendo Gaming / Resident Evil 4 Help
« on: January 17, 2005, 03:46:23 PM »
Since no one started this the moment the game came out, figure I'd start it.

I'm in the 2nd chapter part 3 as of this writing, so if you're not there, don't read the spoilers. You've been warned.

I'm at the point where I got a note where it says I have two paths. One says its got a lot of Ganados (The barely human types) and another El Gigante (big mother trucker). I've got enough Pistol ammo to last a while, but short on shotgun ammo. Any suggestions?

Also, if anyone wants to post what weapons they use, tatics (That's some smart A.I) etc, go for it.

I use the the standard handgun, all qualities level 2, same with shotgun. I'm too chicken to spend cash on any other weapons. Plus, they seem to work fine for me. Though I'd to like hear other combinations (Any one activlely use the Combat knife lol...)

Nintendo Gaming / Iwata: "Paradigm Shift"
« on: January 15, 2005, 06:56:08 PM »
Iwata sounds off about the Revolution and the DS. I put this here, since it slightly emphasizes the nex-gen.

Iwata-Get!

Here are some snippets that are 'interesting':

Quote

Iwata said the Revolution will cause a "paradigm shift" in video gaming, and reconfirmed that details on the machine will be unveiled at the upcoming E3 in May. He added that the machine will most likely come out somewhere between 2005 and 2006, when Sony and Microsoft are expected to release their next-generation consoles. Currently very little is known about the Revolution except that it may not use a conventional controller and may be able to connect to a PC monitor as well as the traditional TV screen.

Quote

"The concept behind our new console, tentatively named 'Revolution,' is the same as the DS. We want it to broaden the [video gaming] audience range, and we don't want it to be something that people will see as too irrelevant to them, too difficult to use, or as something that wastes space. We'll announce specific details at the E3 ... It will most likely come out between this year [and] next year, which is considered to be the transition period for home consoles," Iwata said.

Quote

He added that his company will also attempt to avoid competing in the next-gen console market.

There you go. He also mentions the PSP in a roundabout way, and the usual spin. Anybody have a clue where he's going with this?

General Chat / PGC getting dissed?
« on: September 06, 2003, 09:44:02 PM »
What's shaking people. Before I begin, I'm asking the PGC Forum Gods not to ban me because I'm acting on my sense of right and wrong. What I just saw was in my opinon, very wrong.

While combing the 'net for Nintendo-related news, I came across an interesting editorial (I won't say the site out loud but here's a hint   Nintendo+Martial arts place

The second part was a well thought out editorial but what irked me was this:

While Other Leading Sites claim to offer content “24-7-365....Look for more information in the weekENDS to come."

Gee I wonder who's slogan is it? We all know trusty PGC has a dry on weekends, but hey this is a FREE site. These people don't get paid for doing this. They do this for the love of it.

Now I'm NOT asking to flame the writer, but just want some understanding. Why is there need for competition among fan sites? The information is free, why not share? Its what the internet's all about right? Why this 'mud slinging'? What has PGC done to offend thee? We're all friends here right?

Anyway, I just saw an unnessecary jab at its own people. If you're reading this and comb Nintendo news, you're bound to run into it. What's your take?

General Chat / Soul Calibur II Auditions....
« on: August 27, 2003, 08:13:49 PM »
Hey what's happening out there in RadioLand (Actually the web but whatever.) In celebration of Soul Calibur II's domestic release I just wanted to post a fun, humorous thread on how Namco (and Nintendo) went through selecting the excluisve character for gamecube. Post your stories on how other Nintendo mascots tried out, but couldn't make the cut. I'll start things off with everyone's favorite Italian Plumber.

Namco's Board (NB)kay, first up, Mario? is Mario here?

Mario: Yessir! Its-a-me!

NB: Mr.Mario why should we select you to be in Soul Calibur 2?

Mario: I've been in-a lot of Genres. Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Smash Bros, Smash Bros Meele, Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Ma...

NB: Alright, Alright we get the point.  Ok, show us you got. Pretend you're in a fight with Astaroth. He's big, hulking, and his Axe has more range than Pavoratii (Bad joke, spare me..)

Mario: Lets-a go!  . *Begins series of triple jumps and somersaults akin to Mario 64 and Sunshine. Starts going off walls and out of nowhere throws fireballs.*

NB: (Whisper whisper.. Okay send in the real Astaroth!)

[Enter Astorth stage left]

Astaroth: Huuuurrrrrahhhhh! *Swings axe and hits Mario's belly.*

Mario: oooo mama mia.....

NB: Thank you Mr.Mario, but I think you're not cut out for Soul Calibur Though we wish you luck on your futher endeavors  . Can someone get a stretcher? And uhhhh, can someone the next victim...errr auditioner?

Alright people go for it!
