SpeedGamers.com Hosts 72 Hour Zelda Speed Run for Charity
« on: March 10, 2009, 04:39:27 PM »
Over the course of three days, the team will play nonstop through thirteen titles to raise money for Ally's House.

For over a year now, The Speed Gamers have been racing through popular series such as Metroid, Pokémon, Earthbound, and Halo all in hopes that they can raise a significant amount of money for charity. So far they have donated over $15,000 to different charities across the US.

This month the volunteers, aged 18 to 28, will be hosting a seventy-two hour Zelda marathon that will run from Friday March 13 at 6pm (CST) until Monday March 16. They're hoping to complete all thirteen Zelda titles, including both the console and handheld versions. All the donations made by viewers will be sent to Ally's House. The charity was created by Toby Keith to help families with young members seeking cancer treatment pay medical bills and other expenses.

For anyone interested in donating to their cause (via Paypal) or watching the speed run, there will be a live feed accompanied by a commentary and viewer prizes at their website http://www.thespeedgamers.com.

Thirteen Zelda games in 72 hours! Madness! :o

It's things like this which really highlight my gaming suckitude as that's about how long it took me to complete Ocarina of Time the first time I played through it...

Man I'm definitely donating this time. I think during the last Nintendo-focused marathon (Metroid?) me and Chessa tried to donate but something was messed up with their PayPal submit.

Good luck to the crew over there, and hope they see some nice bank this time.

Their last one was the ridiculous get all 490 Pokemon in 3 days. They failed but tried really hard. I must've donated like $160 or something. (Had leftover money on my US prepaid Visa leftover)

Four Swords, Link's Crossbow Training, Zelda's Adventure, Faces of Evil, Wand of Gamelon, Game and Watch, Wrist Watch and the Board Game...

MSico from The Speed Gamers here, always a joy to see ourselves on Nintendo World Report, I've loved this site since it was PGC.

Four Swords, Link's Crossbow Training, Zelda's Adventure, Faces of Evil, Wand of Gamelon, Game and Watch, Wrist Watch and the Board Game...

The Game and Watch Zeldas all have dead batteries by this point, and we can't possibly stream Four Swords since it is exclusively multiplayer.

But we ARE doing Faces of Evil and Wand of Gamelon because I bought a working CDi from eBay. Zelda's Adventure, when a copy actually turns up for sale, runs around 200$, so if you'd like to donate it we'd be happy to play it. :D Which actually makes 15 Zelda games, although we aren't counting the CDi's in our ultimate total, they are merely a bonus to show our viewers with the extra time we'll have towards the end of the 72 hours. ;)

MSico: For Game and Watch Zelda, Game and Watch Gallery 4 on the GBA features it as an unlockable - something to think about.
As for Zelda's Adventure, shoot me a txt message (phone number's in the signature) with a number where I can call you back at. No promises though.

We're happy to support you guys and your cause. It's very generous of you all to donate your time to help others.
