Prince of Ice Climbing: The Frozen Throne
Think the final climbing segment of Sands of Time. You are climbing a huge frozen mountain with outcrops, ledges and pillars you can swing to, shimmy up or side step along. I'm also thinking of Toki Tori-esque puzzles thrown in the mix.
The view will be restricted to two dimensions with the exception of certain points where the view may shift up, down, left or right to account for movement along the face of the mountain. 2.5D would aptly describe it.
Like how you had Elika or the Sands to save you in the Persia games, you have Nana to save Popo or vice versa thanks to the tether.
Then, there is a critical point near the end where one of them is taken from you and you have to try and navigate to your missing comrade.
The Tether can be a useful tool on its own as well. Use it like a whip, or use it as a sling-shot. Keep Popo at one end and have Nana go across to another far ledge to create a large slingshot to fling items or characters up to higher levels. Or use it as a bridge to span chasms for allies.
Have some heat-based enemies and puzzles. Say there is a fire breathing enemy lizard. You have to find a way to get a block of ice past him or else it melts. If there is a fire-lizard on a grate, you can throw an ice block at it to melt and the water flows down the drain and refreezes in a different area or falls into a special key mold to make a key to progress.
Tools can include
>The Tether. Maybe give it magical properties or have it upgradeable. Also give it a stress level. Go beyond the stress level and it snaps. Or have special limited use tethers you can find that have special properties akin to the different goo balls in World of Goo. Some can be sticky for grabbing items, others can melt ice and some can be magnetic for attracting special items.
>Hammer. Can be used to stun enemies or break certain ice or rock structures. Can be upgraded to break stronger materials and stun enemies for longer periods of time (I think not allowing enemies to be killed in most instances will be a game feature).
>Chissel. To be used in conjunction with Hammer to inscribe symbols. Use the Wiimote to point at wall where you want to mark and shake the Nunchuck to swing the hammer.
>Clinbing Spikes. Special spikes which allow you to free climb a mountain face. Found in limited quantity, probably in special areas where the puzzel/challenege is to ascend a certain height with the fewest spikes.
>Pickaxe. used to ascend short heights. Saves you from a freefall if used right.
>Rope. It's a rope. Never leave home without good rope.
So...should I keep going?
I think I'm going to go back into trying to be a game developer. This idea is pretty intense.
